Chapter 5

The next day, King Galliard's advisor told him about the annual fighting contest of the kingdom. But the king was really bothered by the threat at hand. Whenever he got nervous he does some crazy things. He decided to execute three criminals among whom Regis was included. When the guard at Regis' cell heard that he'd be executed, he felt pity for him. Luchigan got the news too and went to confront his father.

"Father, I haven't even got to interrogate him," Luchigan said.

"There's no need. He tried to kill you," his father replied him.

They were at the table having breakfast and Luchigan had just come back from his secret place. He had heard the news on his way home and decided to run back home to know why.

"But we could obtain some information from him," Luchi defended, "he's not that tough." "He could be of use to us, father," Chrollo said. "Yes!" Luchi backed him up.

"We have to dispose of threats as soon as we find them. That should be a common reasoning," Bran said. "Exactly what I'm saying here!" King Galliard backed Bran up.

"That boy... There's something special about him," Chrollo said, "the day I let him escape, he possibly killed seven werewolves on his own."

"That's not possible. That would even be a difficult task for me," Bran said in disbelief.

"Exactly what I though, brother," Chrollo said.

"He's a water magic user, so I'm still wondering how he was able to face off those werewolves," Chrollo said.

"Nope! He's an earth magic user," Luchi said, "he used mud on me."

"Hmmm... When you went berserk, he assumed a water magic stance and was about to counter your attack," Chrollo said.

"I'm sure he's an earth magic user," Luchi said.

"Earth and water gives mud," Bran interfered, "he has someone assisting him or he's probably double-crested like the royal family." "Yes! Exactly. So we need to find out his bloodline. Maybe one of the kings is against our kingdom," Luchi said.

"Hmmph, interesting..." the king said, "well then, maybe we could make him speak his truth." "Yes!" Luchi almost jumped up. "Why are you excited?" the king asked him.

"Nothing," he embarrassedly said. Luchi was happy that Regis want going to be killed. After breakfast, he marched to Regis' cell and woke him from sleep.

"I've just saved your life, brat," he banged on the cell. "Noisy old frog," Regis muttered before opening an eye to see Luchigan.

"You think I can be killed? Absolutely not," Regis said to him, "I'm always calm and calculated. I could leave your kingdom anytime I want." Luchigan laughed at him then said, "don't get full of yourself. My brother left you to escape. He disabled the kingdom's magical barrier which is always on at night. He knew you were serious with protecting your people."

"What?!" Regis was stunned by what he heard. He had even forgotten that a kingdom as big as Cistra would definitely have a barrier system. He felt ashamed of himself.

"So talk to me, Regis. Is there anything special about you which would be of use to our kingdom?" Luchigan asked him.

"Nope! I'm a commoner and I don't have anything special to offer to your kingdom," Regis turned his face away.

"That sounds guilty," Luchi said to him. "I'm serious about that!" Regis said.

"You're undoubtedly skilled in your hunting. Is there more we can gain from you?" Luchi asked him.

"The only thing about me apart from being a hunter is that I'm Regis!" he answered.

"But you wield a double crest when you're not from the royal family. Am I wrong?" Luchi asked him with a furious face.

"You're totally wrong. But believe me, the best gifts weren't given to the royal family," Regis replied in a terrible laughter.

"What are you hiding?" Luchi asked him. "I want to fight you," Regis said, "maybe shut up your fiery mouth with my water magic." "Don't get cocky. There's nothing I don't burn," Luchi said with a smile. "If you take me on, I'll tell you my whole truth," Regis proposed. "My father won't let me get careless around you since you've attempted to assault me before," Luchigan said.

"Assault you? That was a joke back there," Regis said. "I know. I just told him that story to make him feel proud of me, but he took it too far," Luchi sighed.

"Plus the glory of my hunt which you took," Regis folded his arms. "I'm sorry for all that," Luchigan chuckled, "so what are you saying?" "Fight me," Regis proposed again.

“How about you fight a fire cyclops?" Chrollo said, entering from the door.

“Brother! Those cyclops are dangerous!" Luchi said. "I accept that!" Regis said. "Then I'll go tell my father," Chrollo said, turning back and leaving. "You don't know what you're doing, Regis!" Luchigan scolded at him and ran after Chrollo.
