Alvin scoffed at them and rolled his eyes, waiting for more drama.

The manager had a sharp eyes and was discerning.

“Customer, is that what happened? I want to hear from you.”

“Manager, what do you mean? Are you doubting me?” The sales attendant quickly interrupted, looking upset.

“Shut up immediately, unless you want to get fired. Customer, please.”

“I came here to take my sister shopping, in my bid to cheer her up. Who would have expected that your sales attendant would insult us? She even tried to slap me, and all I did here was in self defense. You can check the cameras. All the people I hit were those who tried to hit me first. My sister went through a lot last night barely surviving a life and death accident. I brought her here to cheer her up, and let her clean up before we leave. But your good staff assaulted us, frightening my already scarred sister even more. How do you think we should settle this?” Alvin asked, looking straight at the manager.

The manager watched him carefully, trying to make a, decision.

‘His clothes are stained with dried blood, and he has dried wounds on his hands. So what he said about the accident is probably true. Everyone knows Starlight mall only deals in luxury. If he came here to change clothes after an accident, it means he has enough money to pay. The pendant on the girl's neck was made of purple imperial jade, which is very expensive. She's not ordinary. And she's the daughter of the fallen KS group. The boy might be a friend from another powerful family who came to rescue her after hearing about her family's tragedy. The accident could also mean that the people who harmed her parents came for her last night but the young master arrived in time to rescue her. Besides, these two girls are fond of throwing themselves at rich men while treating cleaners with disdain. Their bloody and muddy clothes must have made the staff despise them. And a proud man used to being worshipped can't swallow that, making him retaliate immediately. He didn't leave after causing trouble which means he has backing. And most importantly, he didn't look at me with lewd gaze. Most men immediately lose composure when they see me, but he met my gaze without the slightest signs of faltering. This can only mean that he's used to being around beautiful and powerful women. He can't be a beggar. His disposition doesn't look like an insecure and terrified bum.’

“You have been staring at me for a long time. What? Do you want to attack me too?” Alvin asked interrupting the manager.

She immediately gave him a beautiful smile.

“You must be joking, young master. Why will I attack an esteemed client? Please, come with us. However, to shop in this section, you have to make a deposit which ranges from two hundred thousand dollars to one million dollars in trust. So that in the case where by a cloth being tested is damaged it could be settled amicably, and money for repair would be deducted. It could also be considered tier one membership f*e.” She said, still smiling.

The deposit was a big lie, but she wanted to test if he had the money to pay.

“Okay.” Alvin said without thinking much, and brought out the card.

“System, is the card ready for use?”

“Of course, will I give you a dummy card? It can work on any machine.”

Alvin offered the card to the manager to inspect it.

‘Gold rimmed black card issued by the world bank? In this whole world, there are less than ten people qualified to have it. It's only below the supreme platinum which has not been issued yet. Thank goodness I came out on time. Otherwise, our store would have lost a big cash cow.’ The manager said mentally, her shrew business mind dancing for joy.

“Go bring the withdrawal machine immediately.” She barked at the sales attendant.

The sales attendant grudgingly obeyed, waiting for the card to decline.

“Young master, how much should we withdraw?” She asked, smiling at Alvin.

“How much will be enough to give her a make over? I don't think we remembered to take her clothes along.” He said, looking at her with his brows furrowed.

“One million will be enough.”

“Make it two million, I will also pick a few things for myself.”

The moment Alvin said this, the two sales attendants began to laugh.

“You want to withdraw two million dollars? Do you even have two thousand dollars?” One of them asked, their voice dripping with disdain.

The manager immediately slapped the speaker, and then swiped the card.

“Payment successful, two million dollars received.” The machine announced.

The hearts of the sales attendants and the security guard who have been standing to the side immediately skipped a few beats.

“Impossible! The machine must be faulty.” The sales attendants shouted simultaneously.

The manager slapped them in exasperation, wondering why they wanted to ruin their stores chance of being the first to make massive sales this morning.

“Get lost immediately.” She shouted, and the two sales attendants turned grudgingly to obey.

“Did I say they could leave after frightening my little sister? Such arrogant people that judge based on looks alone, flattering the powerful while oppressing the weak, should not be allowed to continue in Starlight malls. If they continue working here, things like what happened here will continue to happen. You will lose lots of customers. Besides, they're unrepentant. The only condition for me to return here after today is if you fire them.” He said coldly, making the two women terrified.

They immediately went down on their knees.

“Please, forgive us young master. We didn't know you're…”

“Exactly. You didn't know I had money. That was why you humiliated us—because our clothes were stained with mud and blood. You haven't changed at all. You don't regret your actions. You regret not realizing sooner that I'm not what you initially thought.” Alvin said and scoffed at them.

“The both of you are fired, go to HR and process your severance immediately. And if you linger here for a second, you will be arrested and made to pay for damages.” The manager interrupted, making one of the girls to collapse.

  • Too broken for salvation

Alvin's mouth dropped open, and Murong Wuque shoved him away. Alvin was too shocked to react. He had never seen such hatred from Murong Wuque in the past. Especially not directed at him. “Have you gone crazy?” Alvin stood up, rage boiling in his veins. Why was he overreacting? Angry he got called out? “I never asked you to sacrifice anything for me!” Murong Wuque's lips curled slightly, hurt, anger and hatred simmering in his eyes at the same time. “No. I was the idiot who thought we were what we aren't.” Alvin's words died in his throat. The drumstick snatched from Alvin fell from Murong Wuque's limp fingers, into the tray. He turned to Alvin, trying his best not to let the beast within snap free. “I was the one who kept giving and giving, emptying myself into an illusion. Into someone who never saw me as anything more than a burden he had to put up with. I was the fool always going the extra mile.” Alvin gasped, anger finally erupting. “Don't you dare give me that. VILLA NUMBER 7 It was eleven p.m when Alvin finally made it home. The soft whirl of his helicopter blades informed everyone who cared to listen that he'd arrived. Inside their room, Murong Wuque sat on the bed beside Aurelio’s cot, laptop in hand as he worked, and waited for the man who didn't seem to realize someone was waiting for him. The door opened and Alvin came in, still dressed in combat gears, albeit different from the one he wore when he went to rescue the kids. He went straight to the bathroom, sterilised his working implements, and peeled his clothes off for a shower. The water was set to an almost hot temperature, the faucets going at full blast, falling against his head like tiny hailstones. Alvin's palm held the wall for support, letting the water wash away the stress and the grime. Like it would erase the bloodshed of the day, and the vileness of human greed that permeated the corners of the earth. He reached for the body wash on the hanging cubicle in the s

Alvin's face was hidden beneath masks and a helmet. Even after arriving, he didn't remove any protective covering. Still, he controlled his reaction. His eyes scanned the boy. His lips were pale, breathing heavy. ‘Why didn't I notice it before?’ Alvin’s eyes narrowed. ‘They already broke him. Made him a willing slave.’ “Is something wrong with my body?” The boy finally asked. The silence had gone heavy, lasted for far too long. Alvin pressed two fingers together, slowly moving up his arm. “Is it serious?” The boy asked again. Alvin was acting far too strange. With the others, he attended to them within a few short minutes, and sent them on their way. As for him, Alvin had been checking his pulse and staring at him. “Are you afraid to be here?” Alvin's voice was soft, betraying nothing. The boy shook his head. “This place is infinitely better than where we are coming from.” Alvin flicked his fingers and a giant light barrier encircled them. By now, the others were watchi

  • HIDDEN SPY

It took Alvin another thirty minutes to treat them and eliminate the slave-seeking worms and tracking hexes in their bodies, each extraction a small war fought beneath skin and soul. The older girl would need many sessions to fully recover. Worse, they got her addicted to a substance, forcing her to return for it. A leash made of cunning and cruelty. He began by cleansing her body to lower aftereffects and withdrawal syndromes. She would still suffer, of course. But when the tendency came, clawing at her veins, the drug Alvin left in her body would force her to sleep it off, dragging her under before she could scream. Alvin looked back at the snow-capped mountains, seemingly ordinary, innocent. There were concealment wards around it, alongside beast-repelling herbs. The place was literally an inconspicuous fortress, a secret wrapped in winter. The cave still had levels below. Levels which Alvin didn’t dare expose to them…not yet. “So long now, two witches. Let’s see how you duke

  • Locked away

By the time the girls came out, Alvin already had soups laid out on the kitchen island, steaming, the scent of warmth cutting through the cold that clung to their bones. Then porridge and small quantities of veggies and meat, arranged with care. They had just come out of captivity, and eating foods that were too heavy wasn’t advisable. They remained fragile, their stomachs still remembering starvation. “Come have some soup. Then I will check on your health for possible poison and injury.” The girls stayed still, watching him, wary as cornered animals. “Hurry. I have places to be. I can’t stay all the way here.” He picked a small plate and dished a little soup into it, then pulled out a straw. He adjusted the straw, fitting it into his helmet, noticing them straining to see his real face. Perfect spies indeed. Eyes hungry for secrets and identity. He sipped the soup till the plate was empty, the sound amplified in the quiet. “See, the food is edible and safe. Do you have any al

  • Snow capped safe house

The space capsule landed Alvin and the girls in the middle of an ice wasteland. It was totally capped by ice and snow, with only mountains and jagged rocks visible…a world of white silence, where even the wind seemed afraid to speak. The hatch opened with a hiss, and Alvin stepped down, carrying the smaller of the two girls, the older one behind him, hunched over with her hand on her belly, every breath a battle. “Where’s this place?” she asked, eyes moving around, suspicion and wonder warring in them. Alvin grinned wickedly beneath the mask, though only his eyes showed it. “Somewhere that’s safe, protected, and impossible to trace.” The older girl’s brows furrowed, and she looked at the smaller girl, their eyes meeting, a secret understanding passing between them. “Impossible to trace?” She turned to him, eyes going dark, like a light was dimmed in them, like hope had been snuffed out one too many times. “So this was the perfect place you found for us to…die?” Alvin rol
