Alvin scoffed at them and rolled his eyes, waiting for more drama.

The manager had a sharp eyes and was discerning.

“Customer, is that what happened? I want to hear from you.”

“Manager, what do you mean? Are you doubting me?” The sales attendant quickly interrupted, looking upset.

“Shut up immediately, unless you want to get fired. Customer, please.”

“I came here to take my sister shopping, in my bid to cheer her up. Who would have expected that your sales attendant would insult us? She even tried to slap me, and all I did here was in self defense. You can check the cameras. All the people I hit were those who tried to hit me first. My sister went through a lot last night barely surviving a life and death accident. I brought her here to cheer her up, and let her clean up before we leave. But your good staff assaulted us, frightening my already scarred sister even more. How do you think we should settle this?” Alvin asked, looking straight at the manager.

The manager watched him carefully, trying to make a, decision.

‘His clothes are stained with dried blood, and he has dried wounds on his hands. So what he said about the accident is probably true. Everyone knows Starlight mall only deals in luxury. If he came here to change clothes after an accident, it means he has enough money to pay. The pendant on the girl's neck was made of purple imperial jade, which is very expensive. She's not ordinary. And she's the daughter of the fallen KS group. The boy might be a friend from another powerful family who came to rescue her after hearing about her family's tragedy. The accident could also mean that the people who harmed her parents came for her last night but the young master arrived in time to rescue her. Besides, these two girls are fond of throwing themselves at rich men while treating cleaners with disdain. Their bloody and muddy clothes must have made the staff despise them. And a proud man used to being worshipped can't swallow that, making him retaliate immediately. He didn't leave after causing trouble which means he has backing. And most importantly, he didn't look at me with lewd gaze. Most men immediately lose composure when they see me, but he met my gaze without the slightest signs of faltering. This can only mean that he's used to being around beautiful and powerful women. He can't be a beggar. His disposition doesn't look like an insecure and terrified bum.’

“You have been staring at me for a long time. What? Do you want to attack me too?” Alvin asked interrupting the manager.

She immediately gave him a beautiful smile.

“You must be joking, young master. Why will I attack an esteemed client? Please, come with us. However, to shop in this section, you have to make a deposit which ranges from two hundred thousand dollars to one million dollars in trust. So that in the case where by a cloth being tested is damaged it could be settled amicably, and money for repair would be deducted. It could also be considered tier one membership f*e.” She said, still smiling.

The deposit was a big lie, but she wanted to test if he had the money to pay.

“Okay.” Alvin said without thinking much, and brought out the card.

“System, is the card ready for use?”

“Of course, will I give you a dummy card? It can work on any machine.”

Alvin offered the card to the manager to inspect it.

‘Gold rimmed black card issued by the world bank? In this whole world, there are less than ten people qualified to have it. It's only below the supreme platinum which has not been issued yet. Thank goodness I came out on time. Otherwise, our store would have lost a big cash cow.’ The manager said mentally, her shrew business mind dancing for joy.

“Go bring the withdrawal machine immediately.” She barked at the sales attendant.

The sales attendant grudgingly obeyed, waiting for the card to decline.

“Young master, how much should we withdraw?” She asked, smiling at Alvin.

“How much will be enough to give her a make over? I don't think we remembered to take her clothes along.” He said, looking at her with his brows furrowed.

“One million will be enough.”

“Make it two million, I will also pick a few things for myself.”

The moment Alvin said this, the two sales attendants began to laugh.

“You want to withdraw two million dollars? Do you even have two thousand dollars?” One of them asked, their voice dripping with disdain.

The manager immediately slapped the speaker, and then swiped the card.

“Payment successful, two million dollars received.” The machine announced.

The hearts of the sales attendants and the security guard who have been standing to the side immediately skipped a few beats.

“Impossible! The machine must be faulty.” The sales attendants shouted simultaneously.

The manager slapped them in exasperation, wondering why they wanted to ruin their stores chance of being the first to make massive sales this morning.

“Get lost immediately.” She shouted, and the two sales attendants turned grudgingly to obey.

“Did I say they could leave after frightening my little sister? Such arrogant people that judge based on looks alone, flattering the powerful while oppressing the weak, should not be allowed to continue in Starlight malls. If they continue working here, things like what happened here will continue to happen. You will lose lots of customers. Besides, they're unrepentant. The only condition for me to return here after today is if you fire them.” He said coldly, making the two women terrified.

They immediately went down on their knees.

“Please, forgive us young master. We didn't know you're…”

“Exactly. You didn't know I had money. That was why you humiliated us—because our clothes were stained with mud and blood. You haven't changed at all. You don't regret your actions. You regret not realizing sooner that I'm not what you initially thought.” Alvin said and scoffed at them.

“The both of you are fired, go to HR and process your severance immediately. And if you linger here for a second, you will be arrested and made to pay for damages.” The manager interrupted, making one of the girls to collapse.

  • TEARING ONE DOWN

“I'm his sister. His sister, okay? He told me he will take care of me forever.” Leah whined, a hint of anger showing on her face. “Not anymore. I will make sure he won't take care of anyone from now on. The harder you work in your already established company, the better for you.” Murong Wuque intoned, his pitch icy and scathing. Shi Wei looked at Murong Wuque from the dining table, then picked a chicken drumstick. “Is Alvin still alive? Legally, she's his closest relative.” “Not anymore.” Murong Wuque smiled broadly, his eyes lighting up. A rare sight. “Alvin's son is coming home. And when he does, I want to make sure that this place would be safe for him. I don't want any delusional person hanging around the child's inheritance.” Leah's face twisted into a mask of fury, disbelief and suspicion. Then despair. “My brother has a son? How come we've never heard of him?” “He's just a few weeks old. Alvin was going to retrieve him from the surrogate and bring him home before the lit

The others didn't dare to butt in, no one knew when the roving sickle would strike. Or who it might strike next. “So this was it. The reason you came here making a ruckus, was for inheritance rights?” Oliver screeched. “What? Want to keep it all for yourself?” Murong Wuque smiled. “You have no relationship with Alvin, what makes you entitled to his sweat? Alvin was once a bartender, serving drinks in clubs before he rose through sheer grit and risking his life continually. What makes you think that you, a totally unrelated stranger, could swoop in and cart it away because you stayed with him for a few years?” Elena's face darkened, and she clenched her fists till her nails dug into her palm. “Is that also what our boss meant? He doesn't see us as family?” Murong Wuque almost kept quiet, but he knew attracting enemies for Alvin wouldn't bode well. “No. He trusts you all completely. Says you all make him feel the joy of a big family. But I don't think so. I think the reason you a

Murong Wuque stared quietly at him, but his silence was more deafening than his rage. Qin Li hurried forward, and held Murong Wuque by the arm. “First brother, please calm down. There should be better ways to handle this.” Murong Wuque shot him a glare and he flinched. “If I wasn't being gentle he wouldn't be breathing here, whole, and glaring unrepentantly at me. At the very least, a few drops of blood should have been visible on his body.” “It wasn't me. I didn't do it.” Oliver insisted, his gaze unwavering. Qin Li quickly stepped forward with an awkward smile. “First brother, how about I handle the questioning? A few minutes perhaps.” Murong Wuque's face remained blank, everyone's eyes were fixed on him. Elena turned to Qin Li, her eyes pleading. Better him than Murong Wuque. If he does the questioning, Oliver would die and resurrect a good number of times before being freed. A torture worse than death. “You say it wasn't you, what about all the proof here?” Oliver turne

Villa number sevenNow, most people no longer felt sorrow. Just irritation. Not being able to move around or do things they enjoyed…no one would be truly happy in such a situation. They were currently in the dining room for dinner, but no one had an appetite. Shi Wei hissed and slammed his fork on the table. He looked at Qin Li who was mechanically moving spoons of rice into his mouth. “Qin Li, it's been three days. I have things to do. When exactly can we resume our daily life?”Qin Li looked at Shi Wei and sighed. “If I knew that, would I be sitting here with you? Let's just eat for now. The food is getting cold.”“We can't stay indoors forever, you know.” Shi Meng Ying said hesitantly. Her stance in the family had always been shaky after the poisoning incident where Murong Wuque nearly tortured her to death. So she rarely spoke or created waves, to avoid breaking the fragile peace. But this was getting too much. She sighed and looked at Qin Li. “Hasn't your first brother said a

  • Leaving the safehouse

It took nearly four hours of constant work for Alvin and Murong Wuque to transform the child’s genes. They had gotten down to work immediately after breakfast. Even little Aurelio looked very exhausted like he just wanted to curl up and cry. They were currently in an underground lab in Murong Wuque's safe house, covered with multiple defense layers to ensure maximum concentration and protection during the process. Murong Wuque looked a bit tired. In just two days, he had rewritten heaven's will and defied fate twice. Bringing a dead Alvin back to life and altering a newborn baby's DNA constitution. Any of them was enough to attract the wrath of the heavens, but he was surprisingly still holding on. Giant tomes were laid out on tables, listing complex steps to merge bloodlines, adverse effects and how to minimize them. Alvin was hard at work at the testing machine. While the child lay on the table, almost sleeping off, Murong Wuque was almost falling off, lightly gripping the ta

  • Aurelio

By the time Alvin settled the child down, his eyes were tired and exhausted. Murong Wuque had washed the dirty clothes and sheets, scrubbed the bathroom till it sparkled, and wiped every inch of the room. Alvin only changed diapers, bathed the child, and fed him. Yet he seemed like he fought an incredibly exhausting battle. He looked even more tired now that he was rocking the child and singing lullabies. Murong Wuque gazed at him from where he was setting up a table for breakfast. As cultivators, they had no need for food. But eating was a habit Alvin had formed over the years, and like every other thing, Murong Wuque picked it up too. Eating was a good treat for the palette. He moved silently towards Alvin, and stood behind him. “Your son is truly troublesome.” Alvin smiled dotingly and kissed the tiny bundle in his arms. “He's not. He's a good kid.” Murong Wuque looked at the liquid on the baby's lips. “Still that same concentrate?” Alvin sighed. “I know right? Taking imm
