Chapter 61

Lucas blinked his eyes as he coughed a bit as he stood up from the wreckage of the broken trees as he took a second to process what had happened to him as he grabbed his sword.

'What just happened?' Lucas thought to himself as he recalled what had happened.

He had thrown a corpse at the incoming fireballs and managed to protect himself as Falkor also helped with his own fire breath. Kriemhild himself was shocked at the attack before she was thrown away by Lucas as he saw the soldiers coming towards him as he saw her landing on the ground.

After he was sure that he was safe he blocked a sword and punched the chest of the soldier as he was launched back before he ducked as a mace passed over where his head back before he kicked the man and launched him back as he quickly turned and lunged forward and stabbed the soldier in the neck.

He picked the dying soldier and threw him at the enemies as he momentarily looked towards Kriemhild as he saw her fighting and defending herself as he felt slightly relieved.

He then leaned back to dodge the attack from the soldier to his right as he made an awkward slash and sliced off his arm as he felt a bit happy at the successful attack.

He corrected himself as he felt the runes become more attuned to his body as it was also adapting to the presence of the runes as well. He felt his physical abilities increase as he roundhouse kicked a soldier which launched him at an archer as the two fell down.

Then he had to use his magic to create a portal as the arrows which were shot towards him went inside as he opened the portal over the same archers as their arrows rained down on them.

Though he had to jump away as more soldiers kept on attacking, not giving him enough time to use his magic as he wasn't used to such a high risk situation which needed him to act without stopping, which was a weakness of his as he didn't have the necessary experience for such an endeavour.

'I was so caught up with the war and the logistics and political implications of it, I didn't have the time to actually train for such a thing. My boys aren't strong enough to be much of a problem for me anyways.' Lucas thought to himself as he kept on fighting.

He knew that these soldiers wouldn't have been much of a problem for him if they weren't in this state that they are in now. Normally, he would've been able to decimate these soldiers without much difficulty as he had done so in the war, he can literally crack the ground with his strength and cleave men in armor in half.

And with the help of his runes that he had inscribed on his body and also on his sword, this should've been something that was far more easier for him than the war.

And yet, for all the upgrades that he had in use, these soldiers are being a massive pain in the butt for him. They were tougher, stronger, and more relentless than when he was fighting in the battlefield.

Lucas had to raise his sword to block the surprise attack of one of the last frontline soldiers as his great sword slammed into his own sword as he felt his arms vibrate from the force of the blow.

'Damn, this guy is really strong.' Lucas thought to himself as he grit his teeth at the strength.

But he stepped forward and slammed his fist right in the gap between his armor under his chest and crushed one of his ribs as the man cried out in pain from the blow.

Lucas used this chance to grab the man's hand as he broke it and threw him at the other soldiers as he also snatched the man's great sword. Which he then proceeded to use to smack the soldiers around him as they were thrown away as he threw the large weapon at the archers as it impaled one straight through his chest.

'It would've been good to have the great sword, but the extra weight wouldn't do me any favours. Just using my sword and the speed I have is a much safer option.' Lucas thought to himself as he took a moment to breathe in air and he let it out.

Kriemhild grit her teeth as he was forced to block the sword strikes of two soldiers as they glared at her as she felt pressured as she then spotted arrows coming towards her from behind the soldiers.

She immediately ducked and let the soldiers own force carry them forward as they fell forward, with the arrows hitting them instead as they cried out in pain from being hit by the arrows of their own allies.

She grunted and threw their bodies off of her as she took a moment to collect herself before she had to run and hide behind a tree to protect herself from the arrows from the archers.

She panted in place as she needed some time to collect herself before she went back into the fray. She didn't mind dying as she knew that it would be a possibility in her chosen profession, but she didn't want to die like this, surrounded and overwhelmed by her enemies.

Though she would be lying if she said that she wasn't afraid of dying, as she also didn't want to disappoint her new lord who had spared her life and had given her a new weapon to use.

Kriemhild looked at her sword that was given by Lucas as she tightened her hold on it as she became more determined to see this through, and survive this invasion.

The only one who seemed to be enjoying this situation between the two of them was Aslaug, as she was laughing as she charged at the mages as she decided that they are a much greater nuisance and so wished to eliminate them quickly.

She dodged and sliced up the magical attacks sent by them, and skillfully dodged the attacks of the archers that were with the group of mages. She neared the group of mages as she grinned under her helmet and sliced the nearest to her as they shrieked in pain from her attack.

Her sword sliced cleanly through the bodies of the mages as the rest sent a stream of flames her way to completely drown her in the attack.

But Aslaug was prepared as she jumped over the mages and sailed through the air and landed behind the group as she quickly turned around and her sword glowed as she sliced through flesh as she grinned at the blood that coated her sword as she had killed more mages.

"This is your punishment for being so annoying!" Aslaug shouted as she kicked a mage and sent him flying straight at a mage which threw a fireball towards her.

The mage screamed from being hit by the fireball as she grinned, before here eyes widened as she sensed danger as she felt her instincts warning her about danger.

But before she could fully understand what it was, she was hit by a beam of golden light from behind which sent her crashing through the mages in front of her as she crushed them and was slammed through two trees as she fell in a heap.

Kriemhild was just shocked at the sudden attack, but she wasn't able to see that it was Aslaug as she was busy protecting herself, though the wyvern was able to see the attack.

Falkor roared which caught the attention of Lucas, before he watched him fly high which didn't help his nerves.

And his worry was proven to be warranted as a beam of the same light which had attacked him went through the chest of a soldier in front of him as his eyes widened as he immediately used a defensive spell as the portal wouldn't be of much help as he wouldn't be able to make it in time.

The result was him being hit full force from the attack as he was lifted off the ground and slammed into the tree behind him. He smashed through the tree he hit, and then four more as he grunted and gasped as he kept the spell up before he fell on the ground with the broken tree trunk falling on him as he blacked out immediately.

'So that's what happened.' Lucas thought to himself as he now recalled how he was in the situation.

He felt the blood on the side of his head as the attack did a number on him, as he also hit the right side of his head a bit as he groaned and stood up as he held his sword.

'Well, things just got more complicated. I hope the reinforcements come soon.' Lucas thought to himself as he got ready to fight as he rolled his shoulders before he ran towards the battle.
