Before leaving for Avtar Palace, Arthur asked his mother for permission first; he didn’t want her to worry. The journey alone would take more than three days.

Emely initially refused to let her son go because it was too dangerous. However, Arthur assured his mother that he would be fine.

Arthur didn’t tell Emely that he had been chosen by the legendary heirloom of the Land of Avtar and was going to Avtar Palace to spend the night with Queen Avtar, as per the established agreement. He simply told his mother that he had important work that required him to go to the Land of Avtar.

“How long will you be working at the palace, my son?” Emely asked with a sad expression as she gently rubbed her son’s back.

“I’m not sure exactly how long I’ll be at the palace, but I’ll definitely bring back a lot of money for us. So you won’t have to work as a servant in the neighboring village anymore,” Arthur replied with a faint smile.

Emely was deeply moved by her son’s words; she was now fully convinced that he had truly changed for the better.

“Wait a moment—I’ll pack you a lunch. You mustn’t go hungry on the journey.” Emely hurried to the kitchen to prepare her son’s favorite meal.

Arthur immediately followed Emely into the kitchen; he couldn’t let his mother cook too much, or he wouldn’t be able to lose weight.

Arthur told Emely to cook just vegetables and a little meat.

Emely agreed; she knew her son wanted to get in shape so he wouldn’t be too overweight.

After finishing cooking, Emely immediately packed the food into a lunchbox. She stared at the lunchbox for quite a while; it felt so hard to let her son work so far away, especially since he didn’t have any self-defense skills.

Emely shook her head—she shouldn’t doubt her own son. He had changed, and he would surely be able to take care of himself.

“Take good care of yourself out there, and never forget your mother here. I’ll always be waiting for your return,” said Emely, trying to hold back her tears.

“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely take care of myself. Once my work is done, I’ll come home right away. I’ll bring back lots of gold coins,” replied Arthur enthusiastically.

Emely smiled and hugged her son.

After that, Arthur left Emely and headed for Avtar Palace.

It was highly unlikely that anyone in the village knew Arthur had been chosen by the Double-Edged Heirloom Sword—a legendary artifact in the Land of Avtar that had been hidden for hundreds of thousands of years.

Arthur himself only knew the location of the sword’s selection from a comic he’d read. At first, he’d only intended to be a spectator, but he ended up being the one chosen instead.

“When I read that comic, the main character went to Avtar Palace through great struggles; the journey he took wasn’t easy, but the comic didn’t explain what kind of dangers the main character faced,” Arthur asked himself. Of course, he had to mentally prepare himself to face those dangers.

No sooner had he left the village borders than he was surrounded by dozens of Demon clans and Dragon clans.

It was clear their target was the double-edged heirloom sword. They still hadn’t accepted the truth.

“Hand over that heirloom sword—you don’t deserve to have it!” shouted one of the Dragon Clan members.

“Who says I don’t deserve it? This sword clearly chose me—you all saw it with your own eyes!” Arthur replied fearlessly and firmly.

“You’d better all leave—don’t bother me!”

The Dragon Clan transformed into ferocious dragons. So did the Demon Clan.

They immediately attacked Arthur. Arthur was about to use his sword, but a man in a black cloak—his face hidden—came to Arthur’s aid and defeated them all.

Arthur fell silent, staring in awe at the man who had saved him.

The man possessed extraordinary abilities. He easily defeated dozens of members of both the Demon Clan and the Dragon Clan.

“Thank you for helping me. May I ask who you are? Why did you help me?” Arthur asked as he walked closer to the man.

“You’re not at fault; it’s only natural that I’d help you. Just call me Zegan Xell,” he replied, causing Arthur’s eyes to widen in surprise.

The man standing before him was the true protagonist. No wonder he could so easily defeat both the Dragon and Demon clans.

“Now that I’m your friend, if you ever need help, you can call on me. I live on Zaxnke Hill,” said Zegan, who immediately walked away without waiting for Arthur’s reply.

Arthur remained silent. The main character was fine. So why was he the one chosen? Shouldn’t Zegan have been the one? Was there a reason why that man wasn’t chosen, or was Zegan simply unable to attend on the day of the selection?

Perhaps if he had the chance to meet Zegan again, he would ask him many questions. After all, he already knew where the man lived, so it was better for him to just continue on his journey now.

His body was tired, but he still had a very long way to go. He didn’t possess any magical powers; if only he weren’t so overweight, he surely wouldn’t get tired so easily.

Arthur decided to drink some water and rested under a tree.

He was very hungry, but he tried to hold it in and chose to just sleep to shake off his fatigue.

Elsewhere.

Queen Avtar had already heard the news about who had been chosen by the Two-Edged Heirloom Sword. An overweight man with no abilities whatsoever!

Queen Avtar’s subordinates reported that the man had cheated, causing the entire clan to reject him.

“Before long, that fat man will surely come here to spend time with me. I will reject him!” Queen Avtar growled.

Queen Avtar looked furious, because the fat man had no shame and had cheated during the selection process for the heirloom in the Land of Avtar.

“What abilities does he have? That he can even control the double-edged heirloom sword. I must investigate that fat man’s abilities. He’ll be here soon, and I’ll expose all his crimes! If he’s proven guilty, I myself will sentence him to death!” Queen Avtar looked extremely angry; this was the first time the selection of the Avtar Land’s heirloom had fallen into the wrong hands.
