Chapter 2: First Quest

Raff was wide-eyed at the different scenery before his eyes after exiting the dimensional portal. He was now in a vast meadow on a hill. In the distance, there were bright torch lights at the foot of the hill. The houses were lined up neatly interspersed with roads and trees.

The shape of the buildings and their layout reminded Raff of the building style of cities in MMORPG fantasy games. Raff then raised his head to face the sky. It seemed that the sky in this world was clear. There was no sign of rain like what was currently happening in the real world.

"Impossible. So this is a form of fantasy world? The atmosphere and appearance feel like in a game," Raff said while inhaling deeply. He could feel the fresh night air flowing into his lungs.

[Quest #1: Enroll as an adventurer in the adventurer's guild]

"Tch. Just entered, the mission already appeared," said Raff.

Raff began to walk towards the town at the foot of the hill. He didn't find any monsters along the way. However, Raff could feel the cold air because his clothes were still wet. Raff stopped his steps for a moment.

"With clothes like this I will look very suspicious," Raff said while raising his right palm up. He then imagined fire in his mind.

Suddenly, flames appeared in Raff's palm. He used the fire to dry his clothes. He then continued his journey back to the city. In the distance Raff could see a small building outside the city fort. Two guards at the security post began to notice Raff approaching.

"Human race huh. It seems that the place I am currently in is an area inhabited by the human race," Raff muttered when he saw the two guards at the security post.

"Hey you! Come here quickly!" called a mustachioed guard as Raff was about to pass the security post. His name was Rokk.

"Where are you going alone at this time of night?" asked another guard named Stonn with a suspicious look.

"I'm going to the city to register as an adventurer," Raff answered honestly.

"Hahaha... want to be an adventurer? With a skinny body like that?" Rokk mocked.

"I am indeed thin. But not because of weakness, just lack of food," Raff replied.

"You have courage too. Where are you from? This is the first time I've seen such a strange outfit," said Rokk, giving Raff a sharp look.

"I come from a land far, far away. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't recognize these clothes," Raff replied.

"We'll make sure a suspicious person like you doesn't bring anything dangerous to this town," Stonn said as he began to search Raff's body.

"I don't mind. I'm not carrying anything suspicious anyway," Raff replied. He was indeed carrying nothing else at the moment after all his belongings were seized by the gang members.

"Didn't you bring a penny?" asked Rokk. He looked surprised that Raff hadn't brought anything with him.

"I have come from a distant land. My provisions have run out. That's why I want to be an adventurer," Raff replied.

"Hahaha .. hopefully they don't kick you out when you get there," Rokk taunted while pushing Raff's body to continue the journey.

Raff immediately continued his journey into the city. There was no minimap like in the game so he was forced to ask people where the adventurer's guild was. It was from the people he met that Raff got various new information about the fantasy world where he was.

Currently he was in Norn City which was included in the southern region of the kingdom of Xandria. A small tropical kingdom in the middle of the Mythrill Continent. Xandria was inhabited by the human race. Although there were some demi-humans, dwarves and elves living there. But their numbers were small compared to the human race.

The atmosphere of the city streets was rather quiet at night. Only a few adventurers and patrolling soldiers were seen passing by. The shops were mostly closed. Raff could smell the delicious and unfamiliar aroma of food from the few food shops that were still open. Raff could only stroke his stomach because he had nothing at the moment.

Everyone in Norn City continued to watch Raff until he reached the guild building area. The atmosphere around the adventurer's guild building was quite quiet. But the door of the guild building was still open as a sign that the guild staff was still receiving guests.

"Beggar," said several adventurers who were sitting on chairs with their friends.

"I hope he has no intention of giving quests to the guild," said an adventurer wearing a black robe. His name was Kon.

"I hope so too Kon, he must have no money," said the demi-human adventurer sitting near Kon. His name was Lot.

"But his clothes are very unique. He must not be from this area," said the adventurer with a sword at his waist. He was named Soy.

"It seems there's bullying in this world too," Raff muttered. He overheard their conversation but ignored it. The thing he often did in the real world when someone insulted him so far.

"Excuse me, sir. Can I help you?" asked the female staff as Raff approached the long table where the staff sat. The female staff smiled sweetly, her hair was black with blue eyes.

"No need to be friendly to beggars like him. Reona," said the big tall man near Raff. He seemed to be waiting for the reward of the mission he had completed.

"As an adventurer you should be kind to the citizens, Jeal," Reona replied while looking at Jeal.

"No problem. I only came here to register as an adventurer," said Raff while looking at Jeal's face without any fear.

"Hahaha .. hi, you heard right? This guy suddenly came and wanted to become an adventurer in Norn City!" Jeal shouted loudly. All the adventurers who were there laughed at his words.

"Please sir, go to the second floor to register," Reona said.

"Thank you," Raff replied as he walked past Jeal who continued to laugh at him.

"This world turns out to be noisy too," Raff thought.

The staff on the second floor immediately welcomed Raff. He told Raff about all the rules that must be obeyed by the adventurers of the Xandria Kingdom. Basically anyone can become an adventurer. But the risk must be borne by themselves if they are not strong enough but force themselves.

"Please place mister Raff's hand on this magic crystal ball. Later the level, power and magic elements that you can use will appear," ordered the guild staff. Raff nodded and placed his right hand on the crystal ball.

Data about Raff suddenly appeared in the crystal ball. The guild staff was shocked when they saw it. Raff mastered two opposite magic elements. Water and fire elements. It was very rare among adventurers to master two basic elements. Because if you master fire then the other element is wind, which is an element that does not defeat each other when used together.

"Is there anything strange?" asked Raff.

"No, it's not. Actually, people who can master two basic elements are common. But the basic elements you have are completely opposite," Staff replied.

"Wait a moment. I'll copy the data into the adventurer's card," said the guild Staff while going to a room.

"The data is exactly the same as the system shows," Raff thought.

The guild staff came back and handed over the adventurer card as Raff's identity. There was data on where Raff registered and the level and date of registration. The staff explained that the card contained magic so that the level data written would automatically change if Raff's level also increased.

Raff then thanked the guild staff. Today he intends to find a place to rest. Tomorrow Raff intends to start taking quests from the guild to raise money.

Suddenly the system in Raff's body displayed his stats again, which had now leveled up after completing the mission from the system. The second mission from the system has also appeared after completing the display of his status upgrade.

"Just finished. The second quest has come immediately," thought Raff while going down to the first floor of the guild building. The atmosphere on the first floor looked deserted.

"They might have rested," Raff muttered.

Reona was no longer seen at her desk. There was now another staff member who had taken her place earlier. Raff thanked her before he walked out of the guild building. Raff suddenly stopped his steps after exiting the guild building.

"Looks like you're in a hurry, sir," Jeal greeted. He and his three friends were already standing outside the guild as if they were waiting for Raff to come out.

"It seems that the goal pattern of evil-hearted people like them remains the same, whether in the real world or in the fantasy world," Raff thought.

"I'm not in a hurry. It's just that I want to find a place to spend the night," Raff replied. He walked past the four adventurers in front of him. But Raff's left shoulder was held by Jeal's right hand.

"What a coincidence. I know a place that will give a free ride to someone like you," Jeal said with a grin.

"Interesting, I wouldn't mind taking a look," Raff said with a smile.
