Anastasia and her mother chuckled bitterly, “Just shut up, Damian.” Anastasia voiced out. “ I know you are jealous because he brought me something you can never afford in your entire life.”

‘Who do you think you are? Maxwell let out. He knew Damian was right, but he wouldn’t allow this guy to ruin him. “Do you know who I am?

“Don’t mind him, he is jealous. Instead of you being happy that someone bought Anastasia something you couldn’t. If I were you I would be on my knees thanking him.”

Damian’s expression darkened as his jaw tightened, “You can never be me; you are so foolish to yourself. Greedy and arrogant, I don’t have anything to say to you but to your daughter, whom you have influence over.” Damian’s voice was firm. “The truth is always bitter, you know what I am talking about.”

Mrs Camilla wore an inexpressive look on her face. Did he just say that to her? I guess she wasn’t expecting Damian to say that.

“How dare you talk to my mother in that manner?” Anastasia frowned and said in a cold voice, “You should apologise to her.”

Maxwell saw it as an opportunity to step in. “Yes, you should apologise to Mrs Camilla, or I will deal with you right now.”

Damian curled his lips in disdain and said. “I will not; you should do your worst.”

A gloomy cloud hovered over Mrs Camilla’s face. “Let him be; We shouldn’t waste our time on people like him.”

“Yes, Mom. But, you know what? You don’t belong here anymore.” Anastasia’s voice was icy. “Mom, can I have the document? It’s time someone here knows his place.”

Mrs Camilla couldn’t help but feel excited. Without hesitation, she brought out the divorce papers and handed them to her daughter.

“It’s over between us, Damian. I can’t be in a marriage with someone who is not only a nobody but rude to my mother.” She tossed the file on the table in front of him.

Damian felt a surge of pain but knew he wasn’t wanted in there.

“It’s fine, but I will make sure you all regret doing this to me.”

The room erupted in uncontrollable laughter and faded away. “Look who will make us regret, a nobody. You should thank your stars, Anastasia, because I don’t want to teach you a lesson. If not.” Maxwell warned.

Damian’s hand curled into a fist, “What would you have done, brag like you did when you took credit for something that is not yours?”

Anastasia paused for a moment; could Damian be telling the truth?

Could this have come from someone else? She yanked the thought from her mind when she realised she had no other person in her life who could afford this aside from Maxwell.

Maxwell’s face flushed in anger.

“Sign it and leave. We don’t want you in our life, I am pregnant for Maxwell, and we wouldn’t want you to inflict your poor stinky life on our unborn child”

“Not only are you poor but you couldn’t touch your wife. I only spent a few days with her and she is pregnant.”

Anastasia felt embarrassed; she wasn’t expecting Maxwell to utter such words before Damian or her mother.

Damian took the document, appending his signature and kept it on the desk before leaving the house. The broken wine bottle was still lying on the floor as a symbol of everything he had lost.

They felt nothing but excitement seeing him leave, Mrs. Camilla heaved a sigh of relief.

Outside the mansion, Damian was thinking about the embarrassment and humiliation he had gone through since he married Anastasia. He felt a pang of hurt burning inside of him, and the buzzing of his phone snapped him out of his thoughts.

He glanced at his screen and hesitated for a moment before answering the call. “Mr. Grayson, It’s Mr. Alex Bishop. My son is sick and I need your help. Please, you are my only hope.”

Mr. Alex was one of the prominent and influential people in the city. The Bishop family are better-respected than the Cross family. Maxwell’s family was no match for Alex’s family.

The desperation in those words touched Damian’s heart. “Where is your son?” Damian asked.

“He is at home.” Mr. Alex Responded.

“Alright, send me your location. I am on my way.” Damian informed.

“I can send my men to come pick you up. Why not send me your location?” Mr. Alex said, with his voice mixed with desperation and politeness.

Damian shook his head as if Mr. Alex could see him. “No, don’t worry. I am coming, send me what I asked for. And get me the ingredients. I will send them to your phone before I get there.” He stated, then terminated the call. Sending him the list of ingredients he would need.

He turned to face the estate, which he had called home for the last two years. He took a deep breath as he glanced at the notification.

Damian flagged down a cab, as the driver took the route to his expected destination. A few moments later, the car came to a halt at the entrance; he stepped out after making payment.

“Who are you and where do you think you are going?” The hefty security man asked Damian in a cold voice.

“I have a meeting with Mr. Alex,” Damian replied.

The security man rolled his eyes at Damian from head to toe. “You can’t go in. Mr. Alex, have more pressing issues than you have time to discuss with someone like you.” He sounded rude. “Get lost.”

Damian showed no sign of fear or emotion, Mr. Alex needed him at the mansion. But the gatekeeper is stopping him, which is also risking the life of his master’s son.

Damian stared at the name tag on his shirt, “Chris, you can make use of the phone, I will not move an inch. Tell him it’s Damian Grayson.”

The gatekeeper scoffed, “I don’t care what your name is or who you are, but my master is not expecting someone like you. Get lost before I teach you a lesson.”

Damian’s patience was beginning to wear thin from the waste of time.

A call came into his phone, and without being told, he knew who the caller was. “I am at your gate and the gatekeeper has refused to let me in.”

The line went dead as Mr. Alex made his way to the entrance.

The gatekeeper burst into laughter, “You are trying to put up a show. I am sure you don’t have Mr. Alex’s number. You had better go away; if he comes out and sees you here, you might end up in a police cell or get thrown in the dog’s cage.”

Just then, a voice roared from behind; the gatekeeper was surprised.

“Who is that fool who stopped my guest?” He exploded in rage

Who was this man? And how is he connected with Mr. Alex?
