Chapter 5: Mocking smile

Mr. Gabriel Natalia's Father was so happy that she hosted a party for her to celebrate the success of the company much to Logan's dismay.

Seeing Natalia gaining their Father's favor wasn't something that he wanted,after all he was the first child and was supposed to inherit the company when his father stepped down but now that Natalia is in the picture it was getting more hard for Logan.

It made me feel better than Logan was upset at Natalia's success.

Even if I could reply to his insults I can still indirectly use this and rub it all over his face for talking down on me.

Even though I hoped Natalia would include me even a bit when my predictions were correct she never did . It had happened for years now so I was used to it.

When she was busy receiving compliments I was receiving side glances and mocking.

"I can't believe that they actually let him still stay here, what is he doing here,I can't believe that he calls himself a man." One of the women sneered at me.

They were not trying to hide their words.

They said it openly with no fear.

To them I was the bad egg that needed to be removed because I was doing nothing in this family if only they knew that Gabriel's family got to this point because of my hard work and sleepless nights.

Gabriel's family wasn't this wealthy when I married Natalia,they were struggling to get shareholders but then I came into the picture I told Natalia what to do and I had been doing that for years.

"There are men that act so carefree,waiting for the woman to bring food to their plate so they can eat." They all laughed at me.

I was playing with the wine glass I had in my hand as I watched Natalia interact with men and her Father introduced her to most of them.

I wasn't introduced to any of them even as her husband . I should be by her side, rich or poor.

I scoffed as I glanced away from her.

"Do you want another glass Mr Thomas?" Grace asked me and I smiled slightly to her and took another glass of wine and placed the other in the tray.

It wasn't empty but I was done playing with it.

"Thank you." I thanked her and she smiled in response walking off.

If anything she was the only one that was actually nice to me here.

Seeing that I wasn't going to be today I decided to head to my room when I had someone call my name from behind.

I turned to see the guy I had seen Natalia and him in her office that day.

I gritted my teeth in annoyance.

Does he actually have no shame that he would call my name after sleeping with my wife?

He was smiling.

A smile that was mocking me as well.

How does he even know my name? Has Natalia been speaking ill of me?

"A pleasure to meet you Mr. Thomas I don't think we have met face to face before and we didn't have time to catch up last time,I didn't see you when I walked out the door." He said with a smirk.

"Oh." I muttered.

I don't know how I was actually supposed to respond to his words.

He was not even ashamed of his actions.

"You know that I am a good acquaintance of your wife,it is nice meeting you,My name is Barke." He stretched out his hand.

"I don't actually know what you're trying to get by saying this but it won't work so I think you should leave me alone as you can see I was heading upstairs. I will continue heading upstairs and pretend as if this never happened and I didn't see you." I told him and turned to leave.

"Only a stupid man would still stay with his wife when she obviously doesn't want him...I thought talking to you would make you see reason but I didn't know your naivety was this baffling." He commented, making me clench my fist.

I turned back and charged at him grabbing his collar,my fisted hand mid air ready to punch him when I heard Gabriel's voice.

"Thomas, what are you doing here? Are you insane!" He shouted thunderously at me and I suddenly remembered that I was still at this party.

I had drawn attention to myself as if I wasn't getting insulted enough.

I let go of his collar and glanced over to my angry Father in law and Natalia and headed upstairs.

"Come back here and apologize immediately Thomas! Get back here!" I could hear Gabriel's voice thunder from down the stairs as I fled to my room, locking the door and sighing in relief.

I had to attend the party even though I didn't want to,now I had gotten into trouble with Gabriel.

He won't let this go so easily. He often holds a grudge and I don't think he would mind that I was his son in law.

 Immediately I sat on my bed and my phone rang.

 It was Oliver,I don't think I have heard from him for a while so why was he calling me now of all times.

Bad timing.

I sighed and I answered the phone

"Hey Oliver, how are you?" I asked immediately.

" I am fine but I don't think you are." He said and I frowned.

"Well let me just say that I'm downstairs in your Father in laws house and he seems to have a lot of words to say to you." He said and my eyes widened.

He saw what just happened?

Oh my world as if I haven't been insulted enough!

" I always said you were too soft,I didn't know that it had gotten to the point that you let yourself be insulted this way." He paused as if to let the words sink into my head.

"I heard some gossip about you but I didn't want to believe it but after seeing this I wonder if you are the same Thomas I knew,the same Thomas that just wanted to be at the top and be only the best." He said.

" I don't think I like where this conversation Is heading ,drop the topic Oliver." I said and he scoffed.

"I guess we have nothing else to talk about Thomas." Oliver said

"I guess we don't." I replied.

"Goodbye Thomas and continue enjoying your life as a slave I just find it boring that I have no one to compete with." Oliver said and hung up.

His words have a secondary meaning.

In my anger I raised the phone up to smash it on the floor but when I remembered that I witod have to ask for money to get a new month I tossed it in the bed and lay there.

Even my highschool classmates and friends now saw me as useless even when they looked up to me in highschool back then.

 Once at a get-together someone said that I was cheating on the tests in school that was what gave me high marks.

I scoffed at the way they think.

I was called a parasite clinging to Natalia for food,I never went to a get together again but she still went to each one.

Was trying to gain Natalia's love worth all these insults?
