Underrated Son-In-Law

Chapter 6: How low can she go.

I stayed indoors the next day hoping that everyone would leave before I went downstairs to eat even when I had banging on my door and Gabriel's angry shouting. I didn't even open the door. I didn't bother because I knew that it would not end in a good confrontation.

It was about 11:30 in the morning when I was sure that everyone had left. I went to the kitchen and found Grace there.

She made me breakfast and I ate and thanked her.

"I don't think this place suits you." Grace told me and I was taken aback by her words.

" I am just saying that you should go somewhere you are appreciated and welcomed…"

"I think you should mind your business." I cut her off and she pressed her lips together.

I feel bad that I spoke to her this way but I don't want her getting into trouble with the other maids and getting her fired.

She was the only one on my side here so I shouldn't get her into trouble.

"I am sincerely sorry I forgot my place, forget what I said... I really think I should mind my own business, I say things without thinking about it." She chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of her neck.

"You really should think before talking, walls are thin." I said heading off to my room.

I didn't mean to speak to her that way but I don't want her saying that to me.

I got into my room, locked the door and lay in the door trying to get some rest because I didn't sleep properly yesterday.

I heard knocking on my door shortly after that.

I opened the door and a maid informed me that Mr Gabriel was looking for me.

Sooner or later I would have to face him so I just chose to face him now and get this over with instead of hiding away in my room like some coward.

When I got downstairs Mr Gabriel was sitting with his legs crossed in the living room.

He shouldn't be at home at this time shouldn't you be at the office?

Did you actually hand over the work to Natalia and Logan?

Well you were getting old so I think I see the need for him to relax.

"Good afternoon sir." I greeted to make known my presence and his gaze fell on me and his eyes hardened.

"I know I warned you to behave in my house and especially my guests but you still didn't listen." Gabriel said.

I nearly rolled my eyes because I was going to get another lecture and I was tired of it.

" Barke said something that made me upset and I retaliated before thinking about where I was ,it won't happen again." I reassured him.

"I know that won't happen again but I want you to apologize to him for what you did because he was there as an invited guest and you embarrassed him." Gabriel said.

Apologize to Barke, my wife's lover?

Heck no.

"I don't think I can do that ."I told him quite bluntly and he narrowed his eyes.

"Do you know that people without money have no say in their life? I can easily buy another you off the market with money." Gabriel began.

"The only reason I'm holding back myself from tossing you out of this house is because of Natalia but the second you offend her and she isn't there to tell me to leave you to stay in this house." He chuckled then his face turned serious as he uncrossed his legs.

" When that happens I will toss you out of this house, so I think you shouldn't mess with me or try to act out and listen very carefully when I say you would apologize to Barke, I mean you have to do it because you have no choice or say in this." Gabriel stated firmly.

It was more of him ordering me on what to do.

"If you don't do it then you might as well go hungry in this house… do you understand where I am heading to?" He asked with a smirk.

"I choose to go hungry than apologize. "I stood firm to my word which caused Gabriel to burst out laughing as he stood up and dusted invisible dust off his clothes.

"What's that your name again?" He asked and I scoffed.

He doesn't even remember the name of his Son-In-Law.

"Thomas… my name is Thomas sir." I replied.

"Silly young Thomas that doesn't know the ways of the world." He said as he took steps towards and stopped in front of me.

He handed me a card.

"This Barke company address,I have already told him that you would come to apologize so go there tomorrow in the morning and apologize." He said.

"You didn't hear…" I tried to speak but he cut me off.

"If you need money to go there, just don't bother,I can tell the driver to take you there just to make sure that you went there and didn't use my money on something unnecessary." Gabriel told me.

"Sir, with all due respect I will not apologize to him." I stated.

"Tch tch tch...silly boy." He slapped me lightly across the face three times.

"Snap out of your daydreaming and come back to reality...I expect you to do what I said by tomorrow." He said and walked out the door and I sighed as I clenched the business card he gave me in my hand.

How dare they?

How dare he tell me to apologize to Barke?

I puffed out angry breaths.

"Thomas." I heard and I snapped out my thoughts to see Grace with a concerned look on her face.

I smiled sadly at her.

"Are you alright?" She asked with concern evident in her face as she approached me.

"I am fine I will be heading upstairs." I told her as she stopped in her tracks and I headed to my room.

Apologize to Barke as if I would ever do that but I would have to face the consequences of disobeying Gabriel.

Natalia came to my room in the evening after work all smiling and happy, she even embraced and kissed me and I wondered what made her so happy.

"I guess something really good happened if you are this happy." I said and she nodded.

Even though I wanted to tell her to talk to her dad about Barke I can wait till we finish our conversation because she seems really happy.

"Really great news, can you guess what?" She said.

"Am I going to start working at the company?" I asked and she frowned.

" No silly." She replied.

Well I could only wish.

"What's it then I don't know what else to think of." I said.

"I am pregnant." She announced and I froze.

Wait a damn minute what did I just hear?

Pregnant?

"When? how?..I mean what...what the heck are you talking about?" I stammered, unable to comprehend the words she just said.

"I am pregnant." She announced it again and I got angry.

"What do you mean you are pregnant?We haven't consummated our marriage Natalia so don't come here telling me you are pregnant,how did this happen?" I asked in disbelief.

"Well I am a woman and my reproductive organs work just fine, I am bound to get pregnant,you should be happy my parents wanted grandkids. Maybe they will hold you in high regard now." She said, smiling at me.

I looked at her as if she had suddenly become insane.

I doubt that anything would make her accept me at this point.

But for Natalia to say something like this made me come to the conclusion that she actually didn't care for me.

"Do you even care about how I feel?" I asked in disbelief.
