Everyone who looked at him fell silent. All eyes were fixed on him in shock.

This was not a small amount of money, and a young man they didn’t even know had just placed an extremely high bid.

Among the guests, some began laughing at him.

“He really bought it for two million five hundred thousand dollars? Is he crazy?” the voice was low, but still audible to nearby guests.

As Logan had expected, the man who had placed the first bid shot a sharp look at the person who spoke.

“I’m sure it’s fake,” the man who had spoken earlier said again, clicking his tongue.

Meanwhile, the first bidder finally spoke.

“No. That painting is truly authentic. I know that because I wanted it very badly.”

Then he deliberately looked at Logan.

“I simply don’t have as much money as that young man.”

He spoke as if he was genuinely disappointed. His expression even looked sad.

Although there was an argument going on, Logan didn’t pay any attention to it. He looked at the seller, wanting to quickly finalize the transaction.

“Hey, I was the one who won the painting. I will pay for it.”

His loud voice immediately drew everyone’s attention.

Even the seller, who had been stunned by what just happened, quickly snapped back to reality. A smile appeared on his face.

“Of course, sir. You may have it.”

This was a transaction he was able to complete quickly.

When Logan finally got the painting in his hands, he let out a relieved breath.

If someone else had placed another bid earlier, things would have become much more complicated. The real question now was—was this painting actually fake?

Just as he was waiting for the answer, a man from behind patted his shoulder.

“Young man, you’ve been deceived.”

Logan turned to look at the man. He seemed to be around fifty years old, bald.

“I heard you bought it earlier…” the man let out a long sigh. “You’ve been tricked. That painting is completely worthless, and I will report this to the Nightball Auction organizers.”

The man frowned, because even after he spoke, the person beside him still did not respond at all.

His gaze remained fixed forward, unblinking and unsettling.

The old man finally touched his shoulder again. “Are you okay? Are you like this because you’re too shocked about getting a fake item?”

“Hey?”

Logan finally looked at him, blinking. “I’m fine.”

The reason he had been like that was because he was staring at the notification screen in front of him—the screen that said he had successfully found a fake item.

[You obtained a fake item]

[You were deceived]

[Congratulations, you received a reward of $250,000,000]

His heart nearly exploded after seeing the amount of money increase again. He had become even richer in such a short time.

“Really?” the bald man asked him again.

Losing a huge amount of money would normally affect anyone’s judgment. And the concern from this bald man made Logan smile.

“I knew this painting was fake, sir. That’s exactly why I bought it.”

The bald man became even more confused by Logan’s words.

And then, Logan slowly raised both lips into a wider smile.

“Because Goddess Sylvaris does not deserve to be insulted with a fake item like this.”

What happened next shocked everyone. All the people present watched as Logan tore the painting into four pieces and threw it onto the floor without any expression.

His action made several people scream loudly.

“He’s really crazy!”

“He’s insane! He actually tore it apart!”

Even though they shouted and insulted him, Logan walked away with his chest held high and a proud smile.

At that moment, the bald man who had been watching him all this time became interested in Logan. In his entire life, he had never seen a young man so certain of what he wanted. Now he felt a strong stir within himself.

So the bald man quickly followed after Logan and shouted,

“Wait a second!”

Logan stopped walking. He turned around and saw the man catching up to him.

When the man reached him, he reached into the inside pocket of his suit and handed Logan his business card.

“Marcus Steel…”

Logan subconsciously murmured when he read the name on the card.

He looked again at the man in front of him. Although he had heard the name a few times in his uncle’s conversations, this was the first time he had actually seen Marcus Steel.

“You seem to know my name.”

Logan nodded. Of course he knew him, this man was very successful. He was a businessman with many assets, and Logan now remembered that he was also a collector.

Now he understood why Marcus knew that the painting was fake.

Marcus Steel smiled. “I like your principles earlier. Fake items indeed should not be associated with Goddess Sylvaris.”

The words Logan had casually spoken earlier actually impressed others.

He couldn’t believe it, he was getting another opportunity. He wouldn’t let it slip away.

“Sir Steel, I am Logan. Losing a small amount of money for something like that is not something to regret.”

A moment later, Marcus laughed loudly and patted Logan’s shoulder several times, clearly pleased with him.

“You are truly a principled young man!” he pointed at him.

Logan only smiled faintly.

“I will invite you to my house,” Marcus said, then leaned closer to Logan’s ear. “Maybe… I can introduce my daughter to you later.”

Logan’s eyes widened slightly as he grabbed Marcus Steel’s hand.

“Sure. We can discuss that, sir.”

There was no harm in building alliances. Something unexpected might happen, and it could become his lifeline.
