Hearing Kai question the assassins, Zora let out a short, sharp laugh, the kind that dripped with mockery, she laughed hard then folded her arms, tilted her head, and asked,

“You actually asked?” She tilted her head at the assassins, then at Kai. “You sweet summer idiot. You really thought they’d tell you who sent them?”

Kai’s jaw tightened. “I’ve seen enough movies to know they won’t talk,” he grumbled. “I just wanted to try and see if maybe, just maybe, they would.”

Zora snorted. “Then why waste your breath if you already know the answer?”

Kai shrugged, eyes still locked on the assassins. “Call it… testing them.”

“Oh, great. Film school tactics.” Zora clapped once, slow and sarcastic. “Maybe throw in a monologue about justice while you’re at it.”

“I still wanted to try,” he said, shrugging like a man choosing between three ways to break a neck. “Sometimes fear loosens tongues.”

“Mm. Sometimes stupidity tightens them.” She popped her shoulder and rolled her wrist like she was warming

The sun rose and set, its light illuminating Kai's room, falling gently on Kai who was sitting crossed legs, his eyes closed. The faint orange color of the sun dyed the horizon. The dark cloud in the sky seemed to want to block it, as it spread quickly, covering the entire sky.Birds flew hurriedly to their destination. Humans were no different, each running towards a source of shelter, waiting to get back home before the storm hit.At the center of the room, unaware of all that was happening was Kai, sitting crossed legs with his eyes closed.A small blue stone placed on his lap lay there. The wind blew, slapping across the window, blowing the curtains, causing them to flutter. But Kai didn't move, his eyes still closed, his energy circulating around his body.Soon, thunder flashed in the sky, and before anyone could say anything, a heavy downpour began, deafening everything. The voices of humans couldn't be heard. After a long while, Kai's eyes finally flashed open. Picking up the s

  • 191: Kai’s Resolution

"What's wrong Abigail?" Kai quickly moved holding Abigail who looked like she was about to fall."Are you okay?" Abigail whispered, staring into Kai's eyes, her voice soft, the worries in her voice couldn't be hidden."I'm fine," Kai replied, his brows narrowing into a thin line, wondering what the heck was wrong."What happened?" He asked again, hoping she was going to talk."I had a nightmare," Abigail muttered, while Kai helped her sit on the sofa, then glanced at Zora who was sitting nearby."Listen to your girlfriend, why the heck are you staring at me?" Zora scoffed, rolling her eyes at Kai, then turned away.Kai sighed knowing what to say. He could already tell what Abigail was about to say."I dreamt that...." Abigail muttered, her eyes turning dreamy staring at the space like she was lost in her thoughts."You dreamt what?" Kai swallowed, mustering up the courage to ask what she had dreamt of."I saw you, Zora, and two other people," Abigail recounted all that had happened a

  • 190: Confused

"Good morning Kai," Ella's yawning voice came from the other end of the phone, not sounding like a dignified young lady at all."Morning Ella," Kai greeted, though his voice was warm, it felt a bit off."What's wrong Kai, it's barely dawn, I hope there's nothing wrong?" Ella's voice sounded, feeling the strangeness in Kai's voice."I'm fine, I just need you to check something out for me," Kai took in a deep breath, trying to suppress his rage.He couldn't call the feeling rage anyway. It was far more than rage, it was something he just couldn't describe.First was the exploding cultivators which was somehow linked to Caleb. Though he wasn't sure how that was possible, he knew Caleb had a hand in it.Now was the assassination attempt. He was sure of one thing. If Zora was not here, then his chances of survival were less than ten percent. Not because they were stronger than he was, but because they were more prepared and that would be dangerous. For a moment, Kai couldn't help but wonde

Immediately Kai screamed, he braced for pain, real, mind-melting, soul-ripping pain.He waited for his brain to explode, his spine to snap, something, anything but then, nothing happened, nothing hurt but instead, a gentle warmth flooded into his skull. Not fire, or pressure. Just a stream of glowing golden data, a rush of knowledge flowing through his mind like someone had cracked open a dam made of secrets. The energy slipped into the crevices of his memory, lighting up places he didn’t know existed, it wasn’t torture as he'd assumed, it was… a gift.A ridiculously invasive, terrifyingly Zora-style gift and the glow faded slowly causing Kai to open his eyes, blinking.Zora tilted her head, staring at him like she was checking if he’d short-circuited.“Coward,” she said flatly, her voice sharp enough to cut titanium. “You screamed like I fried your ancestors.”Kai blinked again, still trying to process. Before he could respond, Zora snatched Abigail out of his arms, lifted her like

  • 189: Precision in Power

Zora stood tall amidst the oppressive silence, her arms crossed, her eyes never leaving Kai. The night around them still held its breath, as if unsure whether it dared to move again, she nodded once, the ghost of approval tugging at her lips.“Good,” she said. “You’ve learned how to release it. Now you need to master it.”Kai didn’t speak, he was still feeling the weight of his aura spreading across the grounds, it was powerful, raw, and unrefined.Zora stepped closer, her tone sharpening, “Right now, you’re a ticking bomb, that aura of yours doesn’t care if someone’s a friend or an enemy. If they’re weaker than you, it will crush them regardless.”Kai’s jaw clenched, his eyes moved to Abigail, and his chest tightened. She was on her knees, breath hitching, her body trembling under the strain of his pressure. Blood had started to leak through the fabric on her knees, soaking into the dirt beneath, she was seconds away from collapsing completely.“She’s your ally, your woman, your resp
