Abel sat still in his car, his hand on the wheel. Tears dropped down his cheeks.

He knew what would happen if he was not able to come up with the money.

His mother's life was slipping away, and there was nothing he could do about it.

He grabbed his cell phone again.

“Adora, please. I'm begging you. I know I've asked you before, but this is about my mother. She needs the surgery tonight. Please!” he texted.

He stared at the message for several seconds, then he hit his thumb on the send button.

Almost immediately, three dots appeared, then disappeared.

“No!”

Abel's heart sank.

He quickly typed another message.

“Please, Adora. Just lend it to me. I promise. I'll pay you back once I settle the hospital bill. I'll work day and night if I have to. I'll repay every single dollar.”

“I said no, Abel!”

That was it.

Abel wiped his face instantly. He furrowed his brow. He turned the car key in the ignition.

The car roared to life. He slammed his foot on the throttle.

Ten minutes later, he was at the hospital.

He rushed inside, his heart pounding as he hurried toward the ward.

Standing at the glass wall, he saw her. His mother.

The machines were blaring with red colors, her chest heaving up and down. She was struggling.

“Mother!” he screamed out loud, his heart pounding heavily.

Instantly, the doctor and nurses rushed in.

“Mother!” he cried.

He fumbled his legs forward, wanting to get into the room, but before he could reach the door, a nurse stepped in front of him.

“We need you to remain outside, Mr. Kane,”

She shut the door in his face.

His heart pounded.

He stood there helplessly, staring through the glass as the medical team surrounded his mother.

Everyone in the waiting area covered their mouths. Their eyes were red. They knew what was about to happen.

A young man who could not afford to pay for his mother's emergency surgery was about to lose her.

“We will need the money now, Mr. Kane, more than ever.”

The doctor stepped out of the room.

Abel immediately rushed toward him and fell on his knees.

“Please, Doctor. Please save her. I will look for the money. I promise I will.”

“I'm sorry, Mr. Kane. But the hospital policy cannot be bent for any customer. We need you to pay for the surgery now, or we will lose her.”

Abel's heart sank.

He was not even paying attention to anything else. Begging the doctor was more important now than ever.

“Please, Doctor. Just give me a little more time.”

The doctor shook his head.

“We have already waited as long as we can.”

Abel lowered his head, his hands trembling.

Then something else caught his attention.

The peculiar buzz of his phone.

He pulled out the phone from his pocket.

He recognized the distinct sound. He set it seven years ago.

His brows furrowed.

Why was that particular notification going off now?

He pulled the phone to his face.

“Congratulations, Mr. Kane. The battery you presented to us seven years ago is now a commercial success, and in recognition of your invention, you have been awarded $150 billion and appointed chairman. Please come to the company tomorrow to sign the chairman appointment.”

Abel wiped his eyes immediately.

He read the message again.

Then again.

“Is this real?” he asked himself.

For a moment, he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

Ten years ago, he had been obsessed with inventions. He decided to build a battery, something that would be more powerful than conventional batteries.

Three years later, after he was newly married, he presented the battery to several companies, but none accepted it, saying it was too unique and didn't have market value.

But now, somehow, one of the companies he'd presented the battery to had decided to revisit the battery and commercialize it?

His phone buzzed again.

“A credit alert,” he murmured.

Without batting an eye, he opened it.

“Your bank account ending with 5257 has now been credited with $150,000,000,000.”

His eyes opened widely.

For a few seconds, Abel simply stared at the screen.

The money was real.

He knew it.

With this kind of money, he was easily the richest man in the city right away.

His mother's life could finally be saved.

He rose to his feet.

“Send the hospital’s account number.”

“Huh?” The doctor sounded shocked, but he controlled himself.

Abel didn't wait.

“The account number.”

Calling the account number out to him, Abel opened his banking app and made the transfer.

“I sent the two hundred and an additional fifty for the stress of keeping you waiting,” he said calmly.

The doctor stared at him in disbelief.

“Save my mother. She means a lot to me.”

The doctor nodded immediately.

He stepped back into the room and darted his eyes to the nurses surrounding the patient’s bed.

“Prep her. Get the IV in and start the anesthesia. We're operating now!” the doctor instructed.

“Yes, sir,” the nurses chorused.
