“Oh! Mr. Kane. Please sit.” Anderson Morning, his boss at EasyWay Logistics, gestured his hand to the chair opposite his table.
“Thank you, sir.” Abel bowed slightly, then he grabbed a seat.
“I didn’t know you would come see me today,” Anderson asked.
Being the boss, he hardly left his office during work hours. He had his delivery men go deliver different packages to the right places while he only monitored how they were doing it from their company app. Seeing Abel come to see him was unusual.
“Is there any problem with the bike?”
“No, sir,” Abel said. His voice was low.
“Ahem!” He cleared his throat.
He was the employee who never liked asking for favors. He never did. But his mother’s life was too important for his pride to get in the way.
“Sir, please… I need to ask you for a favor.”
“Okay?” Anderson furrowed his brow.
“It’s my mother.” His voice cracked. He swallowed hard, trying to hold himself together.
“She’s seriously sick. The doctor said she needs emergency surgery, and I need to make payment before the operation begins.”
“I see,” Anderson said.
“How much are we talking about?”
“$200,000, sir. But I will take anything and look for the rest somewhere.”
Anderson furrowed his brow. His blood boiled, but he didn’t want to sound like a jackass.
“You should have known, Abel,” he began. His voice was low and firm.
“You should have known I don’t lend people my money, no matter the emergency.”
“Plus, how do you expect me to have a whopping 200 grand? If I have that, I won’t be in this country anymore.”
“Please, sir. Anything you can do for…”
“I’m sorry, Abel,” Anderson interrupted.
“I am the wrong guy to ask. I think you should approach the bank or something.”
Seeing that he was getting nowhere with his boss, Abel rose up.
“I will take my leave now.” he bowed slightly and left.

Abel left the company. His heart was beating fast.
His mother’s life was hanging on a thread. He needed the money as fast as he could. But no one was willing to help, not even his wife.
And now, his boss had turned him away too.
Quickly, he stepped into his car. Not having any time to waste, he drove to the bank.
If his boss could not help him, perhaps the bank could.
“Good day, sir,” he said as he stepped into the bank manager’s office.
“Good day, sir. Please sit,” the bank manager voiced.
“I was told you requested to see me.”
“Yes,” Abel answered.
“I need a loan.”
The bank manager leaned forward. His elbow was now on the desk. He pressed his eyes at Abel for a minute.
“Of course.” He smiled.
Sky Bank was a bank Abel had been using all his life. The cashier, the manager, and all the employees knew him. How would they not?
He came to the bank every week, carrying two briefcases containing nothing less than five hundred thousand dollars each to the bank.
If a person like this wanted them to loan him money, they were already eager.
“How much would you like to borrow, sir?”
“$200,000.00.”
The bank manager furrowed his brow. “But you deposit more than that into your account every week. Why would you need to borrow such a little amount of money? For a person like you, we would like to loan you ten million dollars. How does that sound?”
“No!” Abel declined.
“Just two hundred thousand, please.”
The bank manager furrowed his brow again. Then quickly, he masked his face with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
He pulled out a drawer and picked a small-sized single paper out.
“Please write down your account number so we can check the eligibility of your account for a loan, sir.”
“Okay,” Abel said.
“It’s just for formality. We already know who you are, sir.” The bank manager smiled but passed the paper.
Three seconds later, he received the paper back from Abel and pressed the digits into his on his desktop keypad.
One second later.
“I do not understand. You always deposit huge amounts. But seeing your account, sir, the highest amount of money you ever deposited into this account is $500 only.”
“That’s because I always deposit into my wife’s account. She’s the only daughter of the Clement Family. I wasn’t depositing into my account. But knowing who my wife is, that should count, right?”
“You can still loan me the money, right?”
“Ahem!” The bank manager cleared his throat immediately.
“I’m afraid this changes a lot of things. Since the Clement Family is your in-laws, we will have to call them ourselves and confirm if we can loan you the requested funds. On the contrary, we can skip them if you have good collateral we can secure until you repay the loan completely. Otherwise, we will not be able to proceed with this request.”
Abel’s stomach turned.
The only collateral he could think of right now was his old-model car. But even this was not equivalent in value to a quarter of the money he needed.
“I only have a 1991 Toyota Corolla model. Can this work?”
“I’m afraid not, sir.”
“Since you do not have collateral, should we call your wife?”
“No. Thank you.” Abel rose to his feet immediately. His heart raced.
He knew it.
If the bank manager called Adora, it was not going to result in anything good.
“Thank you for your time, Manager,” he said.
“I will be leaving now.”
Abel walked out of the bank, his mind racing.
His boss had refused him.
His wife had refused him.
And now, even the bank had refused him.
Yet somewhere in that city, his mother was lying on a hospital bed, waiting for the money that could determine whether she lived or died.
Abel clenched his fists.
He had tried everything he could think of.
But he still needed $200,000.
An idea was forming in his head. But he doesn’t like the sound of it at all. Yet, he didn’t have a choice.

The security smirked as soon as he said that. He knew it or so he thought. A man like Abel could never possibly be able to provide the email. With this viable reason, he would have the right to embarrass him as much as he wants.Quickly, without allowing Abel to pull his phone from his pocket, he shoved his hand, grabbing his trouser like a criminal.“What’s going on?” Abel asked, surprised at this sudden rude behaviour.“You are one fucking liar and a piece of shit.
