Nancy frowned, staring at him. Didn't Xavier love her the most? At this point, he should have been trying to make Ethan choose him, not asking for divorce.

His indifference made her angry, but she held it inside and left to bring the documents.

She had been used to being treated like royalty before him. No man had pampered her the way he had, even after he lost his legs. Seeing him detached unexpectedly made her unhappy.

She was the one made to kick him away, while he should be the one clinging onto her.

Jason laughed the moment Nancy left.

“How do you like this surprise, Mr. Genius CEO? No, you're no longer a CEO. You merged your company with Crescent waves, and resigned to take care of my son.”

He laughed again, his lips curving disdainfully. “I have seen many simps, but none was quite stupid as you.”

He leaned closer to him. “Nancy has never loved you, she's mine, had always been. The kidney you thought you gave her is in my belly, the son you raised is also mine. I bet you must be feeling terrible inside. Do you want to strangle me?”

Xavier turned to look at him, his eyes holding a hint of warning in them. More cracks were appearing on the seal and he knew that his powers would erupt the moment it's undone.

He shut his eyes and took deep breaths. He must not lose control. Otherwise, even the guests partying downstairs might not be spared.

“What are you doing?” Nancy barked.

Jason stepped back and smiled at her.

“Your dear husband just threatened to deal with me, saying I stole his family.”

Nancy slapped Xavier again, her heart boiling with rage. “If anything happens to Jason, you will have me to contend with.”

On realizing what she just did, she gasped and stepped back. She still needed him to sign, making him angry would only make things worse.

Against expectations, Xavier remained silent. His hand touched his knees absentminded. Once his powers returned, he could remove the poison and stand again. Perhaps, this was for the best.

He looked at her and extended his hand.

“Xavier, don't misunderstand. This is for the best. Ethan's happiness matters the most…”

“How about you?” He cut in. “Has there ever been a moment you felt the slightest bit of affection for me? Or was I simply your puppet?”

He looked at Ethan. He was wearing the jade pendant imbued with his powers to protect him. It was also the symbol of the dragon god’s heir.

Xavier smiled wryly. He had been planning to impart his sect's secret cultivation techniques to Ethan after the birthday, and also give him the rest of his properties since Nancy didn't want another child.

If they had waited a few more days, he would have truly lost everything to them. But heaven had eyes, letting him discover their treachery before it became too late.

“Ethan, since I'm not your father, I need the jade pendant back.”

Ethan held the pendant defensively, his lips forming a pout as he moved back.

“No, bad daddy, it's mine. I grew up with it, it's my own. I won't give it to you.”

Xavier decided to ignore him and turned to Nancy. “If you want me to sign, bring that jade pendant to me. If it cracks or breaks, I won't sign, let's go down together.”

Her face turned red, and she gritted her teeth. “Xavier, do you really need to be so petty with a child? Even if he's not your biological son, you raised him. How can you bear to make him sad over something as petty as jade. This was the gift you gave him on his first birthday. He has gotten quite attached to him. Don't you usually love Ethan the most? Why are you being difficult today?”

Xavier scoffed. “The boy I loved and let ride all over me was my only son. Since he's not mine, I don't need to endure his excesses.”

Nancy’s expression darkened. “You truly disappoint me with your pettiness. Is your love that cheap?”

Her chest heaved up and down, her nose flaring. She turned to Ethan and began to coax him.

Xavier shut his eyes, tuning them out as he tried to stabilize the energy drifting back into his body.

Someone shoved something to his palm and he opened his eyes. There Nancy stood, scowling as she gave him the jade.

Jason stared murderously at him as he carried the crying Ethan. Xavier ignored them and inserted the pendant into the breast pocket of his inner shirt.

Nancy shoved the documents to him. He flipped it open to read it, and immediately she held his hand, stopping him from going through it. He turned to her and she forced a tight smile.

“There's no need to waste time. The guests have been waiting for Ethan.” She turned to the last page. “Just sign here, let's hurry.”

The corner of Xavier's lips curled into a disdainful smirk. He knew it was no divorce documents. It was meant to sign away all his assets, and joint properties to them, leaving him with nothing.

He didn't care anyway. What they had was a drop in the ocean, yet it could bring out so much evil and ruthlessness in them.

He signed without question and returned it to her. She would learn the hard way.

She gave him the second document.

“This is the disownment form, renouncing your claim to Ethan. This would make his name change smoother.”

Xavier signed again without question. He had never intended to drag a son not his anyway.

Nancy was surprised on seeing him sign everything without question, then it became a frown. Seeing him so calm was unnerving, making her anxious.

Xavier was someone that always had a plan B. It wasn't like him to leave without a fight. Who knew what he was planning?

“Are you okay with the arrangements?”

Xavier smiled at her, but it was rather cold and creepy. “On our wedding day, I promised to give you everything you want, and make you happy. I'm someone that never forgets my vow, unlike you who treated yours like trash.”

He bit open his finger and pressed it to the disownment contract

“A thumbprint isn't necessary.” Nancy explained, but he was already done.

The seal on his energy core tore open the moment he got rid of lingering attachments, surging like a tsunami. He quickly circulated it, trying to contain it within his body.

Nancy staggered back, the areas surrounding him suddenly turned glacial.

Before Xavier could stabilize his energy, a sneak attack from an anesthetic gun hit the back of his neck, freezing him to the spot. A heavy object hit his head, followed by a kick which sent him hurtling down the stairs.

The energy he was trying to contain went haywire due to the sneak attack, causing a backlash which severed his meridians and heart valves. He spat out blood, twitching on the floor.

The guests downstairs screamed the moment he was thrown down, and the music stopped.

Nancy looked at Jason, her eyes wide with alarm. “Have you gone mad? There are people downstairs.”

“He fell on his own after abusing hard drugs. How's it our business? If we let him leave today, there's no knowing what he would do.”

Ethan who had gone out to play ran back on hearing the commotion. He screamed and burst into tears.

“Isn't that Mr. Winthrop?”

“Someone pushed him down.”

Nancy rushed to cover her son's eyes, while Jason smirked and went to her, pasting an expression of distress on his face.

“I did it for us. You won't resent me right? I love you so much.”

Nancy sighed and nodded. “Let me check on him.”

“There's no way he's still alive. Let's do as we suggested.”

Before he could implement his plans, sounds of running footsteps echoed outside, and men in military clothes stormed the house.

Pandemonium hit and the guests scattered. Jason, who was about to announce that Xavier was abusing drugs, froze, fear momentarily paralyzing him.

The man in the lead shouted and knelt beside him. “Lord Winthrop, no…”

“What is going on?”

“What's happening?”

“Why are soldiers here?”

The man lifted Xavier who was half conscious, with the help of two other men, and turned to Nancy who was staring at them at the top of the stairs, as if frozen to the place.

“If anything happens to him, I will make you and your boy toy pay dearly, you ungrateful wretch! Cheating on him and playing him for a fool wasn't enough, you still want to kill him?”

The woman dressed in black leather combat attire who had arrived with the men stared at her with resentment.

“If anything happens to my brother, Nancy Carter, Jason Marlow, I will make you wish you were never born.”

She turned to the men. “Let's go. Michael, place a call to Doctor Ryan.”

Nancy staggered, the whispers made her dizzy. As she watched them leave, she couldn't help but feel afraid. Could she have made an irrevocable mistake?

Nancy’s heart jumped. Regret, horror, and indescribable fear chewed her whole. Just when she was sure she would splatter against the concrete floor, turning into meat paste without even a complete corpse, a miracle happened. A leg casually caught her, making her hang off it mid air. Nancy froze, then gasped, wondering why her fall got bridged. Her mid section was on a dainty outstretched leg. Her current position was undignified, most importantly, she couldn't understand how a casually outstretched leg could balance her weight. It didn't matter, all that did was that a savior had arrived. She gasped and grabbed the leg to balance herself, looking up to see her benefactor. A scream of horror escaped her lips. It was that same ghostly face haunting her. The ghost had a pair of childish pig tails, dressed in leather trenchcoat and trousers, with weapons strapped to her…a complete assassin's gear. She grinned at Nancy and waved at her, batting her lashes. A scream escaped her lips a

Jason patted her shoulder. “Don't worry, they will reply. They were the first to reach out, why will they back out now?”Nancy wasn't convinced, for some reason dread filled her heart. She felt hollow, it was as if something huge and unfavorable was going to happen to her. “Zenith is a big group, and there are rumors it's connected to that mysterious Dominion consortium. Crescent Wave is a new company that just rose to fame. What if they decide to work with others?”“I have someone at Zenith, I will pull strings to get you the contact. Trinity, the auburn haired woman dressed in black leather combat attire was holding Xavier's hand, tears dripping steadily down her face. It was truly a strange sight. Xavier's face was pale, totally white and he lay lifeless inside his Rolls-Royce Phantom. The seats were adjusted into a makeshift bed for him, and Trinity knelt beside him, holding his hand. “Big brother, you can't leave me. The people that just arrived to pick him up mentioned that she cheated on him. He must have discovered she cheated, so she wanted to kill him to hush it up.”“It must be with Jason Marlowe. I knew that bastard was up to no good, always hanging around someone else's wife like flies to rotten eggs.”“Damn! Women are vicious.”“She wasn't the one who pushed him. It seemed to be that man beside her.”“This is crazy. I can't believe she would do this after all he had done for her.” The heiress of a fashion line whispered to her friend, shaking her head. “I knew her since college, she was from an impoverished middle class family. But after she married him, he gave her his company and turned her life for the better. Who would have expected she would treat her savior like this?”
