GOOD RIDDANCE
last update2026-09-17 21:22:05

Alex waited until the room went quiet again. Everyone still believed Williams. Everyone still thought Sarah was the victim. He walked to the middle of the floor so they could all see him clearly.

“Sarah,” he said. His voice was calm. “You told everyone I cheated on you. You said you saw me with another woman. Do you have any proof?”

Sarah stared at him. Her mouth opened but no words came out.

Alex asked again. “Do you have even one photo or one message that shows I was with someone else?”

Sarah slowly shook her head. She looked at the floor.

Alex turned to Grandma. “She’s your granddaughter. Maybe you can get her to tell the truth.”

Sarah still said nothing. She just kept her eyes down.

“So you have no proof,” Alex said. “You made up the story to save yourself. When I told the truth, nobody believed me. Now you can’t even back up your own words.”

Grandma raised her hand. “We will not talk about this anymore. The matter is finished. From now on no one brings it up again.”

Mia, Sarah’s cousin, smiled quietly. She knew Grandma was protecting Sarah.

Alex looked at Grandma but stayed silent.

Grandma kept speaking. Her voice got colder.

“You lost your job because of your bad behavior. That was the only useful thing you ever did. Now you will have nothing. You also lied about your wife. You accused her of cheating when you were the one at fault. You broke the promise my late husband made me keep.”

She paused and looked straight at him.

“I only let you stay in this family because of my husband’s last wish. He asked me not to throw you out while you were still married to Sarah. But you have shown you cannot be trusted. You have disappointed all of us.”

The room was completely quiet now.

“You are no longer part of this family,” Grandma said. “I will make sure Sarah signs the divorce papers right away. From this moment you are not her husband and she is not your wife. Do not call her your wife ever again. Do not call yourself part of this family. Your presence is no longer needed here.”

A loud cheer rose from the family. People clapped. Some laughed. Williams smiled. Ethan the manager looked happy. Even the guards who had lost the fight earlier grinned. Sarah’s shoulders dropped with relief. The heavy weight she had carried for years was gone.

Alex stood still and watched them celebrate. He did not look angry. He did not look sad. He did not look sorry.

He was glad.

This was exactly what he had wanted. The divorce. The clean break. The end of the fake life he had lived for a whole year. Every insult, every dirty job, every fake smile had been part of a long test. Sarah and her family had failed that test completely. Now the door was open and he could walk through it free.

Grandma’s late husband, Mr. Anderson, had been the real head of the family. He was the one who brought Alex in and gave him the delivery job. No one understood why, but no one dared ask. Before he died he made Grandma promise to keep Alex as long as the marriage lasted. She had kept that promise until today. Now she was free of it, and so was Alex.

Alex looked around at the smiling faces. They thought they had won. They thought they had thrown out a useless son-in-law. They had no idea they had just set free the one person who could bring their whole world down.

He shook his head slowly. To them this was good riddance. To him it was the best thing that could have happened.

He wondered how long it would take before they learned the truth. How long before Sarah and Grandma found out who he really was. The quiet delivery boy they had stepped on for a year was only a mask. The real person behind the mask had money, power, and a family name that made the Andersons look small.

Alex almost smiled. Let them cheer tonight. Let them think they were safe. Tomorrow the real story would start, and none of them were ready for it.

He turned toward the door. The party noise followed him, full of laughter and relief. Behind him the Anderson family celebrated the end of a problem. In front of him the night waited, quiet and open.

Alex walked out without looking back.

  • THE QUIET AFTER THE STORM

The front door closed behind Alexander Brooks and the two men in dark suits. For a few seconds no one inside the Anderson house moved. The birthday balloons still floated near the ceiling. The cake still sat on the table with candles that had never been lit. The golden ruler lay on the floor where it had fallen earlier. Then the silence broke.Sarah’s legs gave out. She sat down hard on the nearest chair and stared at the empty doorway. Her mouth opened and closed but no words came out. Grandma stayed in her big chair, hands shaking. The color had left her face completely.“Brooks,” Ethan whispered from the floor. He said the name again like it might change if he repeated it enough times. “Alexander Brooks… the real one?”Williams took a step back and almost tripped over a chair. His confident look was gone. He looked at Sarah, then at Grandma, then at the door again.“That cannot be true,” he said, but his voice was weak. “A delivery boy cannot be the Brooks heir. Someone is playing

  • THE NAME NO ONE EXPECTED

The room stayed quiet for a long time after Ethan’s secrets spilled out. No one knew what to say. Ethan sat on the floor with red eyes and shaking hands. The rich guests who had clapped for him earlier now looked away. Sarah’s face had gone pale. Grandma’s hands gripped the arms of her chair so hard her knuckles turned white.Alex did not move. He just stood in the middle of everyone and waited. One of the older guests finally spoke. “How does a delivery boy know all that about a company manager? That information is private.”Another man nodded. “Yes. Bank accounts. Fake papers. Secret money. How do you know these things, young man?”Alex looked at them one by one. His voice stayed calm and steady.“I pay attention,” he said. “That’s all.”Grandma stood up slowly. Her voice was sharp again, but there was something new in it now — worry mixed with anger.“You will answer properly,” she said. “You are not leaving this house until you explain yourself. Who told you these things? Who are

  • ONLY IF THEY KNEW

The truth was out. Ethan had lied to everyone about his job. The same people who had congratulated him now looked angry and embarrassed.Grandma turned on him first.“Ethan,” she said, using his real name for the first time that night. “You stood here and lied to all of us. You made us look like fools. Apologize.”Ethan’s face went dark. Being called by his first name already felt like a fall. A minute ago he was “Mr. Manager.” Now he was just Ethan. One of the guests spoke up. “You should get on your knees. After what you did, a simple sorry is not enough.”Ethan looked at Grandma. She did not stop the idea. He felt his last bit of pride break. He dropped to his knees in front of everyone.“I’m sorry,” he said, voice low. “I was ashamed to tell you I lost the job. I didn’t want to look weak. Please forgive me.”Grandma nodded once. “Apology accepted. Stand up.”Ethan stood. His legs felt weak.Alex let out a small laugh. Everyone turned to him.“A while ago you called me a loser,” Al

  • THE PHONE CALL

Ethan’s phone rang loud in the quiet room. Everyone looked at him. He smiled in a shy way and took the phone from his jacket. When he saw the name on the screen he smiled bigger. It was the caretaker of the delivery company — the man who decided if managers kept their jobs.Ethan answered quickly. “Hello, good day sir.”The voice on the other end was rough. “Good day. I have news for you.”“I’m listening, sir.”“I’m sorry, but we are not renewing your contract. You are no longer the manager starting now. Go collect your things from the office.”The line went dead.Ethan’s face changed for a second. Then he forced a big smile so no one would notice. He could not let the guests, especially Alex, know he had just been fired. If they found out he would lose all respect. Grandma would stop liking him. He would become a nobody. He put the phone away and spoke in a loud, happy voice.“My contract has been extended. I am still the manager. In fact, they gave me a bigger position. I will handl

  • THE FAKE BOYFRIEND

“No. I am not accepting your offer. Never.”Alex’s words hung in the air. The whole room froze. The woman who had offered him the job stared at him like she could not believe her ears. Her name was Victoria. She was used to people saying yes to her. No one had ever turned her down like this, especially not a man who looked like he had nothing.Sarah’s mouth was open. Grandma’s eyes were wide, but a small smile pulled at her lips. She was happy Alex had refused. It made him look even more stupid in front of everyone.Victoria forced a smile so she would not look weak. “Fine. Since this man rejected my kind offer, I stand with Mrs. Anderson. No company I control will ever hire him.”Grandma nodded, pleased.Alex suddenly laughed. It was a short, sharp laugh that made people jump.Victoria frowned. “What is funny?”Alex stopped laughing and looked at her. “How can you speak for all those companies when you are only a vice CEO?”Victoria blinked. She had not expected him to know that. She

  • THE JOB OFFER

After Grandma finished speaking, the family cheered again. The rich guests who had been watching the whole drama now saw their chance. These were not normal people. They were company owners, managers, and even some billionaires. Grandma had invited them so they would want to work with the Anderson family. One man stood up first. He cleared his throat and spoke in a loud, polite voice.“Mrs. Anderson, it is an honor to be at your party. I agree with your decision completely. That young man does not belong in a good family like yours. I promise he will never get a job in any of my companies. Not even as a cleaner.”He sat down. Grandma smiled and nodded.Another man stood. “I also promise. No job for him in my firm. I will tell all my friends the same thing.”One by one the guests stood and made the same promise. No driving job. No cleaning job. No messenger job. Nothing. They all wanted Grandma to like them. They all wanted her money and her support for their businesses.Alex stood off
