Chapter 10

Cedar-sinai Hospitals LA..

"Doctor Sawyer, she was brought in, examined and needs a CS" the nurse explained as she stood beside the patient's bed.

"Get me her records" Mrs Newton replied not taking her eyes off the patient.

"Yes ma'am" the nurse replied and left.

She had always loved her job as a cardiologist though her parents were never happy about it. Her father wanted her to be a writer, her mum wanted her to be a nurse but she always dreamt of becoming a great surgeon. After much struggles, her dad finally agreed that if she was going to be a doctor, she'd either be a dentist or opthalmologist aside that, he won't train her and eventually disown her. She remembered crying hard that night and meeting Keith Newton, her husband, back then he was just a struggling engineer who didnt earn much but loved her dearly and she loved him too. She told him about her dream and her family's decision, and he agreed to help in any way he could. She decided she would become the surgeon she always wanted. With her tuition money from her parents as a dentist, her savings and Keith's help too, she did her undergrad in CS, though her parents found out and her dad stoped paying her tuitions no matter the plea from she and her mom, she started all kinds of jobs to see herself through school with her lover by her side. When she graduated and eventually married, she was lucky enough to be retained in the hospital she interned at. And from that moment, she vowed to assist her husband in whatever form ever, he was her savior and the only one that mattered in her life. But now, her son's constant depression and worry bothered her, severally she had tried to talk him out of his job as a cop and prolly join his dad in his business.

"That's why Kylan's there" was always his reply. She didn't know what special thing or joy he derived from being a cop.

"I did a good job calling Karina home" she sighed.

NEWTON'S RESIDENCE...

The car drove in and parked slowly into the garage as she alighted making her way into the house.

"I'm home" she announced as the maids came running to greet her.

"Welcome home ma'am" they greeted with a bow.

"Please tell me there's food" she stretched.

"Yes ma'am, this way ma'am" one of the maids replied her.

"Where's Kyle" Karina asked settling down at the dinning as they dished her food.

"Young master should be in his room" the maid said.

"Wait he's at home, like here in the mansion" she asked smiling.

"Yes, he came in earlier after he went to work" she answered.

"If he wanted to see me, he could have come straight to the airport" she blushed to herself. She would have rushed up to him but her stomach grumbled loudly and the aroma was so irresistible so she sank into her chair licking her lips while the delicacy was placed in front of her.

Meanwhile, Kyle was on the verge of loosing it, after standing in the bathroom for hours, he came out, dried his body, put on some clothes and laid down covering himself. All he needed right now was a good long nap, then when he wakes up, he'd go on a beautiful dinner date with a very cute friend, just as he was about to close his eyes, a loud voice he wished not to hear kept it wide open.

"Bunny" she yelled jumping on him.

"Get off me" he groaned.

"I'm back" she smiled giving him a peck as he pushed her off his body.

"I can see that" he scoffed.

"You missed me right" she pouted.

"Why are you here" he glared and she felt hurt.

"I-I missed you" she stuttered with hurt.

"Leave my room" he said laying back on his bed.

"You've suddenly grown cold" she yelled, "you stopped calling, not like you call, you hardly pick my calls of late and now I'm right before you, you can't even smile or say the least hi and welcome" she said at the verge of tears.

"Hi and welcome" he fake-smiled.

"Kyle" she muttered.

"That's new, it's always bunny" he smirked, "Karina I'll see you later, I'm not just in the mood" he explained.

"You've not been in the mood for the past one year and some months now, what's happening to us" she said.

"I don't know what you mean by us but I'm fine Karina, just let me be please, you can go to your room, I'm sure it was mum that called you home" he said and turned to face the wall.

"Give me a kiss at least" she whined and he twisted his neck at once staring at her in disbelief.

"What's your problem Karina" he muttered standing up and grabbing her by her wrist, she smiled and stood to.

"I meant it when I said leave" he said and dragged her to the door but before he could push her out she kissed him and ran away giggling while he stood in shock.

EVENING::

Cheryl stood before her mirror staring at her reflection and then sighed, she picked up her phone and dialed her dad's number again. She's supposed to be excited about her date but instead she's worried about her dad, why won't he pick her calls, he always picks her call. All she wanted was to remind him of their outing tomorrow. She had already told her mum about the date and the woman couldn't condone her joy.

"Cheryl" her mum yelled from downstairs and she sighed leaving her room.

"You look stunning" her mum complimented.

"It's a simple dress" she scoffed.

"What's with the long face" Mrs Roberts scoffed.

"Dad..."

"Will be back soon, he's busy at work" her mum cut her off, "now brighten that face up and leave already, dont keep him waiting" she grinned.

"It's a friendly dinner" Cheryl laughed.

"I never said it wasn't" her mum pecked her cheek, "6:12pm, he's waiting" she smiled.

"Fine, bye mum" Cheryl said and rushed out.

AT THE RESTAURANT::

"Sorry I'm late" Cheryl said behind him.

"That scent" he smiled, "and fifteen minutes to be precise" he said and she laughed.

"I was expecting to see food already set" she smiled as she took her seat.

"How would order without you foodie" he smiled.

"Exactly, foodie- I'd eat anything" she laughed, "and oh my, you look cute".

"You're beautiful" he said and the look in his eyes were enough to reset her brain.

She blushed muttering a 'thank you'

"Let's order" he said. "I thought you'd never say that" she smiled and her phone beeped.

"I'M GOING TO DAD'S WORKPLACE, TAKE YOUR TIME" the message read from her mom.

"WHAT'S WRONG" she replied immediately and got no answer and it bothered her the more, her mom had no reason to go to Dad's workplace, she never does that unless there's an emergency.

"Cheryl" Kyle called out.

"Uhh... Yes" she replied and smiled ordering.

"Anything the problem" he asked and she shook her head negatively but kept peeping at her phone. Looking up, she saw someone walking into the restaurant, "is she stalking me" she muttered.

"You said something" Kyle asked

"Nope" she replied and continued picking her food.

"Has the great foodie suddenly lost her appetite" he asked but she didn't even look at him.

"Are you even listening" he asked abit louder gaining her attention.

"Uhhh.. yeah.. of course" she smiled.

"You seem lost" he said tracing her eyes which fell on a girl sitting at the other end of the restaurant.

"Do you know her" he asked.

"Just some bitch I ran into" Cheryl replied.

"You seem uneasy since you came" he pointed out.

"I'm fine" she said glancing at her phone which made a beeping sound almost immediately, "I'll leave first" she said and left.

"What's up with her" he said and rushed out but couldn't find her anywhere.

"I'm on my way" he heard behind him and turned to see the girl Cheryl was glaring at leaving the restaurant.

"I'm worried about her" he muttered and his phone rang.

"Where the hell are you" the general yelled.

"There's been another murder on woods avenue" he said.

"I'm close by" Kyle replied.

"We are on our way" the general said and hung up.

Sirens could be heard blaring from all angles as they inspected the area, two dead bodies were found with the usual missing as they heard struggles from nearby, Kyle who was closer rushed to scene to see the masked lady and a girl struggling. The girl seemed to know how to defend herself as she gave the masked lady a cut on her wrist but the masked lady was fast to kick her and pin her down, retrieving the knife from her.

"Freeze" Kyle yelled.

"We meet again detective Kyle" Laurel smirked.

"I killed you" he muttered.

"I never die" she laughed, "how about a little surprise" she smiled and took off her mask slowly.

"Cheryl" Kyle gasped in shock releasing his grip on the gun.

"Today's your lucky day" she smiled at the girl and dug the knife into her left thigh before disappearing into the dark as the police shot at her aimlessly.

Kyle couldn't move as the rest were running around and they called an ambulance for the injured girl, gathering the courage he looked at the girl and she turned out to be the girl from the restaurant.

"No" he muttered falling back on his knees.
