"He moves like he's been training for years!"

"Maybe he has."

Asta said, unable to look away from the ring.

"We never asked about his training before the academy. Maybe his father taught him combat basics."

Brick was growing more frustrated with each missed strike. His punches were getting bigger, more powerful, which meant they were also getting slightly slower and more predictable.

He overextended on a right cross, putting too much force behind it, and Jabber saw his opening.

Jabber stepped inside Brick's guard, getting past those long arms and drove his fist into Brick's sternum with everything he had behind it.

The impact wasn't huge,Jabber didn't have the size or raw strength to match Brick pound for pound. But it was well-placed, hitting right at the solar plexus, and it was unexpected.

Brick's eyes went wide. Air rushed out of his lungs in a whoosh. He staggered backward, his hand coming up to clutch at his chest, his face showing genuine shock.

The crowd exploded again:

Asta stood frozen in the clinic room, his mouth still hanging slightly open, his eyes locked on Old Man Kael's weathered face like he was trying to read some hidden message written in the lines and wrinkles there. His brain felt like it had stalled out completely, unable to process what he'd just heard, unable to make the words mean anything coherent.Jabber is like you.The sentence kept repeating in his mind, bouncing around like a trapped bird, but he couldn't grasp what it actually meant. Like him, how? In what way? They were both in the labor section? Both struggling? Both had been rejected by elite squads? Those were surface similarities, circumstantial connections that didn't warrant the gravity in Kael's voice when he'd said it.Asta's gaze shifted away from Kael, moving slowly to where Jabber lay unconscious on the clinic bed. His friend, his guild mate, looked so normal lying there. Just a young man, barely twenty, his face bruised and bloodied from the fight, his chest risi

After about two minutes of examination, which felt like an eternity to Asta, who stood tensely watching her every move, she straightened up and turned to face the three of them."He's just worn out." She said matter-of-factly. "Pushed his body way past its limits and it forced him into unconsciousness to protect itself. The injuries on his face are superficial, they look worse than they are because head wounds bleed a lot. He'll wake up on his own when his body's had enough rest. Probably in an hour or two, maybe sooner."Asta felt tension he hadn't realized he'd been carrying drain out of his shoulders. "So he's going to be okay?""He'll be fine." The nurse confirmed. "I'll give him some pain relief pills for when he wakes up,that face is going to hurt something fierce. And he should take it easy for a few days, no strenuous activity and let his body recover properly. But there's no permanent damage. He's young and healthy,he'll bounce back.""Thank you." Flora said sincerely. "T

Flora asked, already reaching to check Jabber's pulse at his neck. Her fingers found the steady thump, and she nodded. "Pulse is strong. He's just unconscious.""We need to get him to the clinic." Mira said practically, already moving to help lift him. "Whatever happened to him, whatever that transformation was, it clearly took everything out of him."Asta nodded, sliding his arms under Jabber's shoulders while Mira took his legs. Together they lifted him,he wasn't particularly heavy, all lean muscle and bone and began carrying him toward the ring's exit. The crowd watched them go, still murmuring:"It seems like he went beyond his limits and wore himself out.""That makes sense, manifesting that much power, fighting that intensely, it would exhaust anyone.""But what about the purple flame? I've never seen flames that color before.""Maybe it's a rare variation? Some unusual manifestation?""Or maybe he was using a forbidden technique? Something that burns through your life force?"

Asta took a breath, trying to project confidence he absolutely didn't feel, and decided to just... play along. Figure out what was happening later. Right now, stop the immediate crisis."The referee just announced that the fight is over." Asta said, keeping his voice as calm and steady as he could manage. "The match is done. Finished.""Yes, my lord." Jabber responded immediately, his trembling voice carrying absolute obedience. "I know. I heard the announcement."Asta blinked. Okay, that was easy. But then why..."So why are you beating everyone up?" Asta asked, gesturing toward the four officials scattered around the ring in various states of unconsciousness or pain. "If you knew the fight was over, why did you attack them?"Jabber's gaze shifted to follow Asta's gesture, landing on the officials he'd defeated. For a moment, he seemed to have forgotten they existed, his entire focus having been on the terror of facing what he thought was the Lord Emperor Dragon. But now, seein

On the ground, Jabber was still prostrated, his forehead pressed into the dirt, his whole body shaking. But he was talking, muttering to himself so quietly that only someone very close could have heard him. His voice was panicked, rushing through words so fast they almost ran together:"Oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh no. I did it again. I disrespected the Lord Emperor Dragon again. He isn't going to forgive me. He never forgives me. I thought I'd be careful this time, thought I'd keep my presence small, thought I wouldn't draw his attention, but I got cocky and played with those officials and now he's here and he knows and I'm so dead, I'm so incredibly dead."His fingers were digging into the dirt, nails scraping against packed earth. "He's going to destroy me. Going to tear me apart piece by piece. Going to remind me why he's the emperor and I'm just... just a servant who can't even follow simple orders to stay hidden. I doubt he'll show mercy. Why would he? I don't deserve mercy. I never

The training yard had gone so silent that the distant sounds of the city beyond the walls seemed impossibly loud, cart wheels on cobblestones, a vendor calling out their wares, a dog barking somewhere far away. But here, in this space packed with hundreds of people, there was nothing. Just silence so thick it felt like it had physical weight, pressing down on everyone's chests, making it hard to breathe.Every single person was staring at the ring. Every eye was fixed on the impossible scene playing out before them: Jabber, who moments ago had been this terrifying force of purple-flamed destruction, was now pressed flat against the dirt in full prostration before Asta, his forehead touching the ground, his whole body trembling like a leaf in a hurricane.Mouths hung open throughout the crowd, literally hundreds of jaws dropping simultaneously in expressions of complete shock. Eyes were wide, some blinking rapidly like their owners were trying to clear away a hallucination, others just
