Jason didn’t look up as he walked into the streets of Forestedge.
He was in deep thought about the situation.
Early morning, neatly organised groups of bandits left the stronghold for different missions. He even noticed a couple of Elites among those people. It wasn’t a good sign for him. They weren’t a simple group of bandits.
He felt depressed and didn’t want to log out until he figured out the situation. If this was simply a game, he wouldn’t care, but he knew he was running out of time. He needed a stable place to grow strong. Magic came with practice, knowledge and patience.
‘Sigh. I should wait a bit more.’
It was too early and not even a single shop was open in the town. He was hungry and sleepy, but he decided to wait a bit.
‘Ah… Players. Why are they so early? Phew.’
The last thing he wanted was the passionate players asking him a thousand questions.
He saw a small alley and found a corner to sit and rest.
“Damn… I am hungry.”
“Hig… Hig….”
‘Huh?’
He got alarmed by the sobbing sound coming from the side.
A small figure moved out from behind the stacked pile of wood.
It was a young girl, almost five or six years old. Her clothes looked tattered and dirty. Her hair was clogged with dirt and her face was covered in dust. She looked as if she was crying for a long time.
Her most unique feature was her pale green eyes. Which looked a bit reddish after crying.
“Who are you?”
“I… Hig… Am Hanna.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I… Was… Trying to sleep.”
“Sleep? Here? How old are you?”
Jason frowned.
The girl simply shook her head as the answer. She didn’t know her age. She was afraid of the dark, and she couldn’t sleep. No one wanted to be near her.
“Where are your parents? I mean, mother and father.”
She shook her head again. She had no memory of them.
“Are you… hungry?”
She gave him the little food left with her.
Jason looked at the mouldy bun in the girl’s hand. It was dirty and old, but the girl also looked hungry.
“Why are you giving me this?”
The girl talked very well for her apparent age, and she looked far more mature than her looks.
“Because… Because you are hungry.”
She was afraid of people, but she didn’t feel any dark feelings from him. She knew what it was like to be hungry, and she wanted to help him. Maybe even try to make a friend.
Jason stared into the girl’s eyes for a few seconds before taking the bun off her hand. He broke it in two and gave her half. As for the condition of the bun, he had nothing against it. There were times when he ate things much worse.
He wiped off the dirt and ate it in silence.
Hanna stared at this stranger for a moment before sitting on the opposite side. She followed his actions to wipe off the dirt from the bun before silently eating it. It was the first time someone didn’t try to chase her away.
Jason finished the bun in a few bites and drank a mouthful of water from his waterskin. He patiently waited until the girl finished eating before giving her the waterskin.
He started checking his armband and saw two friend requests from Ashey and Freya.
He realised the girl was looking at him with curious eyes.
“What is that?”
She looked a bit startled by his gaze.
“It is an armband.”
He didn’t think such a young girl would know about the players.
Since there was nothing much to do, Jason sent a couple of detailed messages to Logan and Dawn. He needed their help to deal with the bandits, so he included the basic details about the stealth skills and asked them to warn their people coming here about the bandits.
‘Done.’
He closed his eyes and started resting until the town started functioning.
…
Jason opened his eyes when the streets got busier. The first thing he saw was the little girl staring at him.
‘Sigh.’
He took out a copper coin from his pouch.
‘I really need a magic bag.’
There were none for sale in Forestedge, and he didn’t even see one with Boris. It was a rare thing in small places. Especially in small kingdoms.
“Do you know what this is?”
“Uhuh….”
She nodded her head.
“Do you know how to buy things?”
He wondered if he was asking too much from such a young girl.
“Uhuh.”
“Really? Here.”
He gave her all the coppers he had. It was around fifty.
“Buy some food to eat.”
Hanna started at the departing figure with her fists full of coins. She didn’t feel that terrible evil from him. In fact, he felt warm towards her. That was the reason she walked out of her hiding place when she felt Jason was hungry. Besides, he didn’t despise her like the others.
…
“Stop!”
Jason stopped in front of the front gate of the two-story mansion when the guard yelled at him.
He noticed several other players in the surrounding; they all looked at him and some had knowing smiles on their faces.
“Another one trying to meet the Mayor.”
“Wait, I think I know this guy. He is the one with the sword.”
“Huh? It is him. Jason!”
“Really? It looks like even he can’t meet the Mayor.”
“What a fool.”
Jason ignored those gazes as he took out his medal.
“I am here to meet the Mayor. Tell him a Wizard Initiate is here to meet him.”
“The mayor has no time for people like you.”
One of the guards gave him a disdainful look.
“I see. So, are you going to take the responsibility?”
He took a step forward and came close to the arrogant-looking guard.
“What?”
“I will go. But I will come back. I am asking if you are willing to take the responsibility of turning back an apprentice of a wizard?”
Jason knew very well the status of a Wizard Initiate. It was equal to a lesser noble even in a medium-sized city. Only a capital city would ignore a Wizard Initiate.
He looked right into the eyes of the guard.
“I think your Mayor will be happy to answer about your behaviour later.”
This was equal to offending the Wizard who took him as an apprentice.
“Sir! Please wait. I… I will inform the Mayor.”
The other guard looked panicked at Jason’s outburst and ran into the mansion.
Jason looked at the remaining guard for a second before completely ignoring him. He looked at the status window, wondering how much strength he could gain before taking action.
Jason Hope
Strength
- 17Agility
- 18Endurance
- 6Physical Defence - 0%
Magical Defence - 0%
Body condition - 98.0%
Magic Affinity
- 0%No abnormal conditions.
His strength and agility had increased by six points. The reason was the three magic nodes he unblocked. Each of these would increase his strength and agility. Also, he had a new stat unlocked. The Endurance. It was the recovery rate of the body. It was usually zero and wouldn’t show on the status window. The reason was simple. Zero meant the real recovery rate of a human.
He had six, and it implied he would recover six times faster than a human. A one day of recovery for him would be equal to six days of recovery for a normal person.
‘Sigh. this is not enough.’
This level of physical improvement would give him some edge, but it wouldn’t be much.
Jason looked up when he heard a running sound.
A plump man in a suit came running out of the mansion. He was sweating as he came close to Jason.
“Hello, sir. I am the Mayor of Forestedge, Simon. May I know….”
“Here.”
Jason showed him the medal before he finished the sentence.
“Sir… Sir Initiate, it is an honour. I… I am sorry. My… My soldiers….”
“Forget it.”
“Thank you for your mercy, sir. May I ask who your master is?”
“Master Merlin. I think you should know him, right?”
“Ah… Yes, Yes.”
Simon felt his back drenching in sweat. He remembered the mighty wizard who had passed through his small town a year ago. He didn’t expect a man to show up as Master Merlin’s apprentice after a year.
“You… You…. Apologise.”
Of course, he asked not to be disturbed by these aliens, but this was a Wizard Initiate, and his master was living very close to their small town.
He did not know how an alien got the recognition of a powerful wizard.
“Just forget it.”
Jason didn’t want this flattery and apologies. What he needed were the answers.
“I have some questions for you, Mayor Simon.”
“Yes. Yes. Anything, Sir Initiate. Please come into my humble mansion. I will answer your questions.”
…
“Wait! That guy just got in.”
“How?”
Several players saw how things turned out.
“Hey… I also want to meet the Mayor.”
A player got close to the guards.
“For what?”
“I have reasons.”
“Go away.”
The incident already annoyed the guards.
“You guys let him in.”
None of the players knew the one who came to invite Jason was the Mayor himself. No one was close enough to hear the conversation.
“What? Are you a Wizard Initiate? Get the hell out of here.”

307 - Peace
"It is indeed impressive. No wonder those fools from the Brodice Kingdom are terrified of you."The hooded figure removed his invisibility, stepping out of the corner with composed movements. His voice was steady and regained the cool confidence of someone who knew his worth.“And you are indeed a powerful woman, Madam Amelia. This is my first time witnessing the presence of a Peak Grandmaster. They are… extremely rare. Rarer than Grand Wizards, in fact.”Despite his previous caution, the Master Wizard now carried himself with certainty. He wasn't someone easily intimidated—and though he wouldn’t pick a fight here, his pride wouldn’t allow him to remain cowering either.“Eh! The ghost is here! Catch it!” Hanna started struggling in Amelia’s arms with sparkling eyes.Amelia held her firmly."That is not a ghost, baby." Jason’s voice was gentle, but his gaze stayed fixed on the now-visible man.The atmosphere in the hall shifted.Tension rippled through the officials as they realised th
306 - The Messenger
The atmosphere grew heavier, the tension thickening with each breath. The envoys from the Brodice Kingdom stood their ground, their jaws clenched in barely contained frustration.Their eyes—especially those of the Grandmasters—never left Amelia. There was fear there, even if none of them dared to admit it. One step too far, and they knew she could crush them where they stood.Still, their leader stepped forward, holding a scroll with trembling fingers masked by feigned authority.“We are envoys of the Brodice Kingdom,” he declared, voice echoing with forced confidence.“I stand here on behalf of His Majesty—the absolute ruler of our lands. In his name, we extend a proposal of peace. We are willing to lift the bounty on your head... in exchange for removing the bounties you have placed on His Majesty and his subjects.”His words were rehearsed—measured—but anyone could see the nerves behind them.“No.” The room froze. The envoy blinked.“W–What?” Even the officials of Light Shone looked
305 - Tell Me
‘This place… it’s really busy…’ The hooded figure observed the bustling administrative hall in silent awe. He had expected chaos—a disorganised mess of self-proclaimed rulers who were unfit to govern. But instead, what he saw was efficiency. Decisions were being made on the spot, minor issues were being resolved instantly, and orders were being swiftly relayed.Even without direct oversight, everything flowed seamlessly. The alien humans had a system, and they had something else, something his people lacked—Instant communication. He knew of it. They called it a forum or something.‘A divided authority, yet still centralised around a leader…’ His gaze flickered toward the two empty seats in the center of the hall. A symbol of true leadership. Those seated around them were not aristocrats, not nobles, but humble-looking men and women dressed in practical, simple clothing. Yet their eyes were sharp, their minds sharper. Each of them radiated competence.‘These aren’t placeholders. These
304 - An Overwhelming Prescence
‘So, this is Light Shone.’His hidden eyes scanned the streets as he walked leisurely, moving unseen alongside the startled envoys.‘Still too small, but… this is serious potential.’He had slipped out of the carriage as the guards inspected it, effortlessly avoiding their scrutiny. While his invisibility shielded him from their eyes, he still occupied physical space—and he preferred not to take the risk of being noticed. With measured steps, he blended into the bustling streets. What he saw defied his expectations. The village was alive. It wasn’t just busy—it thrived.Shops occupied every available space, their owners negotiating prices with eager customers. People bustled past him, engaged in work yet carrying an air of contentment, their movements purposeful, their faces filled with ease. This was not the Light Shone he remembered.‘Back then, it was different.’It had been just as lively, but the stench of blood clung to the air, and signs of death lurked at every corner. "Is this... alright, My Lord?""Yes. And pretend I was never here. Once we pass through, you won’t see me again. Do you understand? No one must know I was ever here.""Yes! Yes, My Lord!""And... no one else knows I am here, correct?" The hooded figure’s voice sharpened deliberately."N-No! No, My Lord! We... we are departing soon!" The envoy stammered, his body trembling as he hastily retreated to the far corner of the carriage.‘Sigh… How useless.’The hooded man barely spared him another glance. The Brodice Kingdom had neither the power nor the will to resist the Grand Order that had been issued. It had been nearly a decade since the last decree from the Grand Wizards, and that one had shaken the world, announcing the arrival of an immortal alien.‘But this might be the first time in centuries that they had to step in to stop a minor war.’He turned his gaze to the passing scenery outside the carriage window, watching in silence. No one, aside from the envoy and a handful of high-ra
302 - No Longer Human
"Grandmaster Amelia…""He’s playing with Hanna and his magic," Amelia cut Dane off before he could finish, hanging the freshly washed clothes on the line.Even after a year of constant change in Light Shone, this small household had remained the same. It was still under Amelia’s care. The village’s housing structure remained untouched as new construction projects focused on essential production facilities and accommodations for the new settlers arriving through the ongoing clearing operations. Infrastructure plans were in place, but progress was slow due to the sheer number of projects they were juggling. If Jason or Amelia had wanted, they could have easily upgraded their home—no one would have objected. After all, this small house was the heart of the Crystal Pulse, the centre of absolute power within the faction. Yet, despite its democratic structure, the organization operated with near-perfect coordination. The faction under Magnus from the Secret Service, the Saintess Guild, the
