He wanted to say that the money was not enough. He wanted to explain that the cost of living had increased and that he had responsibilities beyond himself.

But he also understood that complaining without a solution might not help him.

"I'm grateful for the job, sir," he answered carefully. "But if there is an opportunity to earn more, I would appreciate it."

Harrison finally raised his head.

"hmmm.. technically."

Adrian kept driving.

"thankyou sir."

Harrison studied him for a moment before returning his attention to the phone.

"I may need someone to handle additional driving assignments over the next few weeks. There will be some late evenings, and the schedule may be inconvenient."

Adrian immediately became attentive.

"That won't be a problem, sir."

"You haven't even heard the details."

"I'm willing to hear them, sir."

Harrison gave a short laugh.

"All right. I'll speak to my assistant about it. If the arrangement goes ahead, you'll be informed."

"Thank you very much, sir."

Adrian felt a small sense of relief.

Additional assignments meant additional income.

It might not be a fortune, but it was a beginning.

Perhaps he could save more quickly than he had expected.

Perhaps he could buy Vanessa's handbag sooner.

Perhaps, with enough time, he could begin putting money aside for his own business.

For the first time that morning, Adrian felt genuinely encouraged.

He drove the rest of the way to the office with renewed determination.

---

By the time Adrian arrived at Harrison's office building, the streets were crowded with workers heading into their respective workplaces.

He pulled up at the main entrance and stepped out to open the rear door.

Harrison climbed out, straightened his jacket, and handed Adrian the briefcase.

"Wait here until I call you."

"Yes, sir."

Harrison entered the building.

Adrian returned to the driver's seat and checked his phone while waiting.

There was still no reply from Vanessa.

He opened their conversation and read the message he had sent earlier.

He wondered whether she had seen it.

Perhaps she was still upset.

He considered calling her, but decided against it. He did not want to disturb her if she was sleeping, and he had no desire to start another argument before the day had properly begun.

Instead, he opened his notes application and reviewed a list of expenses he had written down.

Rent.

Food.

Transportation.

Savings.

He had divided his income into categories to prevent himself from spending money carelessly. It was not a sophisticated financial plan, but it helped him understand where his money went.

At the bottom of the list, he had written one additional item.

MY OWN BUSINESS.

He stared at those words for several seconds.

Then he added another line beneath them.

START SAVING MORE.

Adrian locked his phone and placed it beside him.

He could not control how quickly his life changed, but he could control what he did with the opportunities available to him.

He intended to make the most of them.

---

Later that morning, Harrison's assistant approached the vehicle.

"Adrian, the boss needs you."

Adrian immediately put his phone away.

"Is he ready to leave?"

"Not yet. He wants you to collect some documents from the other office."

"All right."

The assistant handed him an envelope containing the address and instructions.

Adrian examined it before starting the engine.

"Should I wait there for him afterward?"

"No. Return here once you've collected the documents. He'll let you know when he needs the car."

"Understood."

Adrian drove away from the building.

The other office was located across the city, and the journey took nearly forty minutes because of the traffic.

When he arrived, he parked in the designated area and entered the building.

A receptionist directed him to the administrative department, where an employee verified his employer's details before handing him the documents.

Adrian checked the envelope to make sure everything was included.

"Thank you," he said.

"You're welcome."

He returned to the vehicle and placed the envelope carefully on the passenger seat.

Before driving off, he checked the time.

His stomach was beginning to growl. He had eaten breakfast early and had not brought lunch from home.

There was a small food vendor across the road, but he decided to wait until he returned to Harrison's office.

He wanted to avoid unnecessary spending.

After all, every little amount mattered.

He started the engine and rejoined the traffic.

As the vehicle moved through the busy streets, Adrian remained focused on the road, unaware of how quickly an ordinary day could become complicated.

For now, he had a job to do, a promise to keep, and a future he was determined to build.
