LET THEM CHOOSE.

The message remained across every screen.

Adrian stared at it while Nathan lay unconscious beside him.

No Crown signals.

No warnings.

Nothing.

Oracle had activated thousands of people, allowed the first conflict to end in death, then apparently switched everything off.

That made no sense.

Which meant the visible event was not the real event.

“Ghost.”

“Yes.”

“Check the hosts again.”

“No active Crown signatures detected.”

“Biological status?”

“Most remain alive.”

  • Ch-64 the man behind the exchange

The sealed door opened again. This time, the security cameras recorded nothing. No turning handle. No movement in the corridor. One moment, the door was closed. The next, it stood open, revealing the same pale darkness Cassian had found earlier. Adrian watched the footage twice. “Ghost, can you confirm whether the door is physically open?” “Yes.” “Any movement detected inside the room?” “No.” “Temperature changes?” “No significant variation.” “Air displacement?” “Within normal parameters.” Adrian leaned back. “So the door opens without movement, and there’s no detectable presence behind it.” “Correct.” Mira folded her arms. “That’s reassuring. We have an invisible door with an invisible person who can apparently talk through our security system.” “Not invisible,” Jamie whispered. Everyone turned toward him. He was still staring at the screen. “Whoever that is, they were there. I remember now.” Adrian moved closer. “Tell me what you remember. Only what you’re ce

  • Ch-63 someone inside blackthorn

The sound came from below. Not from the operations room. Not from the secured corridors. From somewhere beneath Blackthorn’s main building. Cassian was the first to move. “Alexander, lock down the lower levels. Nobody enters or leaves without my authorization.” Alexander reached for his communication device. “Already doing it.” Adrian turned toward Ghost’s display. “Show me the building’s internal security feeds.” The screens responded, filling with corridor cameras, access logs, and floor plans. Everything appeared normal. Almost everything. On the lowest level, a corridor camera showed a door standing open. Adrian recognized it. “What’s behind that door?” Alexander checked the building records. “An old storage room. It was sealed before we acquired Blackthorn.” “Why?” “Structural damage, according to the records.” “Was the damage repaired?” “No.” “Then why does the security system show the door opening?” Alexander didn’t answer. He didn’t need to. Adrian looke

  • Ch-62 the voice behind the door

Nobody moved. The voice had lasted less than three seconds, yet its final words remained in the room long after the speakers went silent. Thank you for opening the door. Adrian looked at the black screens. “Ghost?” No response. “Ghost, report.” Silence. Cassian raised his weapon and moved toward the operations room entrance. Alexander followed, signaling the guards outside to secure the corridor. Mira stayed beside Jamie. Seraphine watched the white point that had appeared on the map. Even though every screen had gone dark, the small light remained visible. That was the first thing Adrian noticed. The second was that it had stopped pulsing. It was watching them. “Everyone away from the table,” Adrian ordered. Daniel stepped back immediately. Jamie didn’t move. Adrian turned toward him. “Jamie.” The boy’s eyes remained fixed on the white point. “I know that voice.” The room went quiet again. Adrian approached him, stopping at a safe distance. “You said you’ve seen

  • Ch-61 the hour after god apologised

00 DAYS 00 HOURS 59 MINUTES. Adrian stared at the countdown. For several seconds, nobody spoke. Station One had disappeared. The expanding boundary had collapsed. Daniel had claimed his Crown without binding it to Continuity, and across the world, the old Twelve were beginning to fracture into something nobody had ever seen before. And Oracle had apologized. Not explained. Not warned. Apologized. Adrian looked at the nearest screen. “Ghost, tell me the countdown is a technical error.” “Unable to confirm.” “Try harder.” “I have checked the available systems seven times. The countdown is synchronized across every active Crown network.” Cassian stepped away from the vehicle. “What happens when it reaches zero?” “Unknown,” Ghost answered. “Of course,” Mira muttered. “Why would anything in our lives come with instructions?” Jamie wasn’t laughing. He stood beside Daniel, staring at the new symbol on the man’s palm. The mark looked almost like Security, but its lines no longe

  • Ch-60 the man who refused both gods

Thirty-two minutes. That was how long Ghost estimated before Station One’s expanding boundary reached Daniel. Cassian drove. Fast. Adrian sat in the passenger seat, watching the map. Mira, Jamie, Seraphine, and Elias were in the back. Alexander had wanted to come. Adrian had refused. Not because Alexander was useless. Because Blackthorn needed someone capable of making decisions if they did not return. Alexander had understood. He had not liked it. Adrian considered that progress too. “Thirty-one minutes,” Ghost said. “Stop announcing every minute.” “Would you prefer five-minute intervals?” “Yes.” “Understood.” Mira leaned forward. “Daniel?” “Still connected.” Adrian opened the channel. “Daniel.” “I’m here.” The man sounded breathless. “Stop running.” “What?” “You said you were moving.” “Yes.” “The boundary is tracking you, not the location.” “So?” “You’re wasting energy.” Silence. Then Daniel’s breathing slowed. “Okay.” “Where are you?” “An abando

  • Ch-59 twenty-two days

22 DAYS 00 HOURS 00 MINUTES. SOVEREIGN REUNIFICATION. LAST KING REQUIRED. Nobody spoke. Then the timer changed. 21 DAYS 23 HOURS 59 MINUTES. Mira stared at it. “Well.” Adrian looked at her. “That sounded optimistic.” “It wasn’t.” Ghost attempted to remove the countdown. It disappeared. Then returned on another screen. Ghost tried again. It appeared on every device in Blackthorn. “Stop,” Adrian said. “I have not succeeded.” “I noticed.” Nathan sat against the wall, still weak from separating the Sovereign fragments. Lucian remained beside him. “What does ‘Last King required’ mean?” Seraphine answered carefully. “Probably a host.” “For Sovereign?” “Or Choice.” Adrian looked toward her. “Those are very different answers.” “I know.” Elias approached Eve. Vanessa was still holding her. “Let me examine the mark.” Vanessa looked at Adrian. Not Elias. Interesting. Adrian nodded. Elias crouched. Eve’s Zero symbol had returned to black. No gold. No visibl
