I woke up around 8 a.m. to get ready for my magic training with Bon. I went down to the entrance but I stopped before leaving to greet Hana. 

“Good morning Hana, I’ll see you later today when I get back.”

“Good luck with your training and I thought you might get hungry while training so I made you a lunch box for later.”

A lunch box? A bit weird but it looks like she's sincere about it so it should be safe. 

“Sure, I’ll take the lunch box. Thanks, see you later.”

I took the lunch box from her lunch box and waved her goodbye as I left for Bon's house. Once I reached his home I knocked on his door aggressively. 

“It’s Fran, open the door Bon.”

Bon opens the door.

“You don’t need to knock so hard you’re going to break my door.”

“Sorry I thought because of your age you might not hear me knocking if I did it normally.”

“I’m not that old yet! You sure aren’t grateful for me teaching you at all; it wouldn’t kill you to be nice to the one that’s teaching you.”

“I was trying to be considerate but if you see it that way that’s fine if that’s what you believe. Also it’s not like you’ve shown me yet that you are the real deal when it comes to teaching. It could’ve just been a lie.”

“And how would I benefit from lying about that?”

“From what I can think of nothing, besides wasting my time.”

“Then why bother thinking I was lying.”

“I don’t think you are lying though, I was just saying it’s a possibility.”

Bon sighs at me.

“Ok I get it, come in so we can get started instead.”

I followed Bon and we both sat in the same places as before.

“I’ll start now. Before I teach you how to use magic I need to teach you how magic works here. The magic types are rock, water, fire, lightning, ice, wind and light magic which is able to heal and used to fight it’s a lot rarer to have than others. Finally dark magic which is the rarest one and to be honest with you I’ve never seen anyone with that magic. Since it’s rare, people don’t know what dark magic does so be careful if you ever meet someone with it.”

“That’s it for magic types but now you need to know about mana. Everyone has a set amount of mana which varies from each person, when you’re nearing your limits it’s best not to overdo it because you might use your life mana which will shorten your lifespan.”

“Every living thing has its own life mana that’s separate from the regular mana that people with magic use. Your magic mana also gets weaker when you get older so you won’t be able to be at your peak past a certain age.”

“Since you now should be able to understand how the types of magic and mana work you should be able to understand magic biomes. Magic biomes are places where a certain type of magic dominates in that area. If it’s an ice biome it will be a snowing biome with cold weather. The cause for this weather isn’t caused by things such as it’s area but for the type of natural mana it has in the area. 

“The type of normal mana we have in the air like here doesn’t affect things such as weather since it’s neutral. But biomes have these bizarre weather and terrains because of the type of mana in that area. That type of mana in the air is what affects the magic you use in a fight or in general. For example, what type of magic do you have?”

“I have ice and fire magic.“

“Since you have ice and fire your ideal biome would be an ice biome because it will boost your ice magic but it won’t affect your fire magic. The natural mana in the area of a biome will affect your mana that you release because it will try to mix to it. Either three things happen, it will be neutral and nothing happens, it can be compatible and enhance your magic or it can be incompatible which will make it weaker.”

“When it’s incompatible it decreases your magic by 10% and when it’s compatible it increases by 10%. So when you’re fighting in a biome it’s best you think about how it will affect you and your opponent. For compatibility in biomes it will always only enhance the magic that is the same as the biome. But it can decrease and be neutral to more than one type.”

“So for a fire biome, fire will get an increase and ice is the only one to get a decrease. For a rock biome, rock will get an increase and lightning will get a decrease. For a water biome, water will get an increase and fire and rock will get a decrease. In a wind biome, wind will get an increase and the rest are neutral. For a lightning biome, lightning will get an increase and the rest are neutral. For a light biome, light will get an increase and the rest neutral. For dark biomes I only know one thing.”

“All I know is that everyone that has gone in a dark biome has died and that no plants or animals live there so it’s best to stay away from one. Just make sure you don’t enter a biome right away since some are extremely dangerous so be careful. Oh ya and about light and dark magic there’s one more thing that affects them.

“They are also affected by the sun so if the sun is out light magic will get a 10% increase and dark magic will get a 10% decrease. If the sun is down dark magic will get a 10% increase and light magic will get a 10% decrease. This is the final thing I need to tell you about, which are the magic beasts and spirits.”

“Magic best and magic spirits are both born in magic biomes. Magic beasts are born from the mana in the biome and from negative emotions that come from nearby places or directly in the biome. For magic spirits they also use the mana in the biome but they need positive emotions instead to come to life.”

“Each magic beast and spirit varies in how powerful they are and what they look like but you should be able to tell which one is which by their eye color. A magic beast has blue eyes and a magic beast will have red eyes. They both specialize in the type of magic where they are born, so they can only use one kind.”

“You can also form contracts with magic beats and spirits but it depends on which side you are on. For someone like you on God’s side you would only be able to form a contract with magic spirits. But if someone is on the Devil’s side they can only form contracts with magic beasts. The final thing you need to know before you form a contract with a spirit is that you're limited to which ones you can form a contract with. You can only form a contract with a spirit with the same type of magic as yourself.”

“If I formed a contract with a spirit but then switched to the Devil’s side would something happen to the contract?”

“The contract would be broken and the spirit would be free but you might face some consequences by breaking a contract depending on the details of it. Well for now I think I covered the basic understanding on how magic works so how about we stop here and start magic training tomorrow.”

“Sure if you think that’s best then it’s fine for today. Oh and by the way I have to leave here in a month so will my training be done by then?”

“A month should be enough to teach you the basics. You should be able to learn on your own by then so you should be good.”

“Ok then well since you’re done for today I’ll be going now.”

I got up to leave but Bon grabbed my shoulder to stop me.

“What leaving already? Why don’t you stay and have breakfast with me? It’s been a long time since I’ve had breakfast with someone so I’d appreciate it.”

His request was something I would have normally declined as I had no purpose in staying but changed my mind once I got a good look at him. That desperate expression on his face, almost begging me to stay was what changed my mind. He was lonely.

“Sure I don’t have anything else to do today anyways.”
