Chapter 3: Deserving to Receive the Gift

"WHAT HAPPENED TO you, young master?!" The servants of the Hlezel family were sprinting towards Ryle with a terrified expression the moment he arrived at the mansion's entrance.

Although Ryle's wounds had finally healed, his tattered clothes created an impression that he went through something terrible. The servants were now calling the madame and the physician; no matter how many times Ryle told them that he was fine, the servants were panicking too much to listen to him. Understanding that Jadren was a good master to her servants; Ryle was not that surprised with the ruckus that the servants of the Hlezel Family was making.

Earlier, when Ryle was finally healed, he was planning on visiting the kingdom's libraries to find answers, however upon understanding the condition of his outfit, it would be impossible for him to do so; the guards would sure chase him out. Ryle could only go home for a change. He also had something to inquire his mother about.

"My son, who did this to you?!" cried a lady who was in her 30's.

The lady looked young and was was a fine woman; due to the royal blue dress that she was wearing, the aura of elegance that surrounded her was elevated — she looked majestic. The moment the lady spotted Jadren in her peripheral vision, she went running to Jadren's side. She had a worried look as she was inspecting Jadren's body; she was trying to check if the young man was hurt somewhere.

The lady was no other than Jianne Hlezel, the madame of the Hlezel Family. She was in the middle of handling family matters, but the moment she heard the news of Jadren's arrival with a ragged dress, Jianne disregarded what she was doing and was sprinting outside. She was worried sick and was angry! Who would have such the audacity to bring harm to his beloved child!

Seeing the anxious look of Jadren's mother, Ryle remembered Equera in her; the two had resemblance. Everytime Ryle would finish a mision, the jefe would be healing him a hundred times to assure that he wasn't hurt — that was how paranoid the jefe was.

Right now, Ryle felt moved; although he had no connection with the woman in front of him, his predessor had a deep affection for his parents, so he got to feel what Jadren would have felt. Unconsciously, Ryle brought himself to gave his mother an embrace. Jianne was confused with his son's actions, but she returned the embrace.

"Mother, calm down, I am totally fine. I just happened to be in an accident while experimenting in our Alchemy Class," Ryle procured a lie; he couldn't tell the lady that her son was already dead.

Given how calm Ryle was when he fabricated his sentence, Jianne naturally believed him. However, the madame had the family physician checked Ryle up. After confirming that nothing was wrong, the lady escorted Ryle inside the mansion, while asking the young man how did his day pass. Ryle was left with no choice, but to answer back to his mother's queries.

"Mother, do we perhaps have some artifacts in possession?" Ryle suddenly asked.

Ryle's stopped by at the mansion today was not only for a change of clothes, but to inquire for any artifacts that might be of use to him. He needed power right now; he felt uneasy given how powerless his current self was. Ryle had also this premonition that the road of his query for answers would be tough and it would need a greater strength.

The best way to obtain power was to increase cultivation and to awaken more vessels. For Ryle, the former was given; starting from today, he would cultivate day and night nonstop to increase his cultivation. On the other hand, the latter, Ryle needed to work hard for it, magic artifacts were rare; they were not grasses in the farmland. However, Ryle was certain that the Hlezel Family should have at least one, so he asked his mother.

The lady of the Hlezel Family was stunned by his son's query. Jianne thought that his son was never interested in anything related to magic. However, right now, Jadren was suddenly asking for artifacts. Could it be that his son decided to dedicate his life to practice magic? She couldn't be any prouder.

"My... my... why would my son be asking about artifacts," the lady teased her son.

"Mother, I just realized that I should... maybe try learning magic. I was thinking if mother has something that would be of help to his son's cultivation?" replied Ryle cheerfully.

The lady was elated; she wiped the tear the escaped his eye. She was happy... very happy beyond words at the moment. She had been praying to the Gods that may his son be enlightened and would decide to pursue magic. His prayers were becoming a reality right now! Jianne unconsciously lifted his son on the air.

Ryle just let Jianne do her thing; he understood why the madame was acting like this. His predecessor, Jadren, never even put a little effort to learn magic, because the former owner of the body knew very well that he had no aptitude for magic. There was no point in learning something you were not born for.

It was only out of Jadren's love for his parents that he agreed to be schooled at Sky Crane Academy, one of the prestigious wizard school of the kingdom. Wizards were highly valued by the kingdom; his parents wanted him to become one to have his future solidified.

"Then, I guess it's time for our son to receive the treasures of this family," said Jianne.

The madane instructed Ryle first to go for a change of garments which Ryle agreed into; he had been feeling uncomfortable because of his ragged outfit. After Ryle made his preparations, he went to his mother's room. He was received by his mother very well and was told to sit down beside her.

A secret compartment under the bed was revealed when Ryle saw his mother pressed something; a chest was inside. As his mother grabbed the chest and handed over it to him, Ryle felt strange from the storage — there was a strong distortion that could be felt from it. As Ryle brought himself to open the chest, the young man was left in amazement.

INSIDE THE CHEST was was a lotus with red petals and a plain-looking cube; his eyes couldn't believe that his family had possession of such a rare treasure! He speculated beforehand that myriad space artifact might be inside the chest, however he hesitated to believe it, given his family background.

Now that Ryle got to see it, his suspicions were verified. He was excitedly looking at the cube with a dumbfounded expression. Given the ripples of distortion that could be felt around the cube, it was definitely a myriad space artifact! One should know that myriad space artifacts were one of a kind.

"Your father managed to obtain this artifact as part of his spoils n the battle against the Undead Race. l initially wanted to sell this one to make a fortune." Jianne halt from speaking, then grabbed the lotus and placed it into his son's hand. "However, after learning that you had fire magic, we decided to give it to you as a present once you enter the right age. But I think you fit to receive this one now."

Ryle heart softened once more; Jadren was lucky to have such parents. "Mother, will father not be angry if he realized that you gave this to me without his blessing?"

"He dares?" A grin was plastered on Jane's face; if her husband would dare be angry or even question her decisions, she would skin him to death.

"This would greatly help you in your cultivation; take care of it, son," the Madame added while rubbing the precious lotus.

"Ma, are you sure that father doesn't need this to awaken fire magic?" asked Ryle; his father was a water, earth, and moon wizard. If his father would learn fire magic, that would be beneficial for him.

Jane held his son's hands and gave a sigh before speaking, "Son, we are never a family of talent. You should know that awakening a vessel from an artifact can only be done by those geniuses from the royal families! Only them had the technique to do so, unfortunately, we don't."

The madame's statements left Ryle confused. That was some bullshit news that he just obtained. Awakening a magic vessel was definitely possible with enough magic particles from an artifact. All you need to do was absorb the magic particles of the artifact to your void 'till it would be enough to awaken a vessel. Ryle just gave his mother a nod. He couldn't afford to argue further.

"Mother, how about this one? Are you sure you want to give me this artifact? I won't hold back if you mean it." Ryle pointed his fingers to the cube.

"Son, you misunderstood; this is not an artifact, but a family heirloom! This is from your grandfather who once participated in the Great Defense II!" Jianne's expression turned gloomy; she had remembered something tragic. "Before my father went into the frontlines, he gave this to me as a memento. Now, I am giving this you; may his wizard spirit guide you."

Ryle was too stunned to speak; a myriad space artifact was treated only as an antique by his family. If this event happened during his past life, it would be considered as treason and the Mobility Division would be angered to death to the point that they would not be silenced unless the blasphemer would be punished through an execution!

"Why are you looking at me like that? Son, don't hesitate; it's fine... it's fine, you can keep it, really." Contrarily, Ryle was not feeling hesitant that's why he was refusing to accept it, but rather confused.

"Mother, did you know what myriad space is?" Ryle could not stay silent anymore; he needed to confirm his queries.

"What is that, son?" Jianne's was genuinely wondering what did his son just mentioned.

"What about myriad life?" Ryle proceeded to his next question.

"Never heard of it either."

Ryle continued mentioning to the madame the rest of the myriad magics, however his mother's answers remained the same. It was by then that Ryle realized that something was going on. How could his mother not recognize even a single myriad magic? His mother had lived long before him; she must have known it.

"Mother, are you sure you never heard of it? They are the purest and highest form of magic!" a stupefied Ryle said.

"Son... you must be tired; there are no magic such as myriad space, sun or whatever. We only have ordinary magics and divergent magics! Your alchemy class must have drained you so much." A worried expression could be seen from Jianne's face.

Sparing no more words, the madame handed the artifacts to Ryle and sent him back to his room. His son did mention words and magics that she never heard of. Jianne believed that his son needed some rest. The young man didn't object to his mother's decision; he left after he gave his utmost gratitude.
