CHAPTER 3

The next day, Filbert started rebuilding the room that has been destroyed because of the sudden magic awakening of Abraham. While he is at it, Abraham is with his mother and headed down to town to consult with someone who is a great mage. Abraham feels weird. It was if power was running down his whole body like a raging river. It’s overwhelming him, and it’s not a good sign. Because if a magic of a person overflows, it’ll be disastrous. That’s why they are heading to this person that his parents know. It’s for him to know how to control his powers, especially when it has the potential of being a rare one. After a few minutes of walking down the streets of the town of Ozo, they reached this small house that is at the western end of the town. Josephine and Abraham stepped on the front porch as Josephine knocked on the door thrice.

At first there was nothing, but then,

“Who dares to disturb the sleeping mage? Curse shall be upon those who disturbs the great mage of Ozo.” Says a very creepy woman’s voice that made Abraham’s skin crawl.

“It’s Josephine, Marge.” Josephine sighed.

The door then opened so suddenly and it revealed this old woman that was leaning on her walking stick,

“Josephine! It’s good to see you,” the old woman cheered as she went to hug Josephine “this must be your son, I suppose?” says the old woman.

She then approached Abraham and suddenly inspected Abraham from head to toe. She was nodding as she observed Abraham and was slightly grinning, which made Abraham think if this woman is right in the head.

“Is this your son? He looks nothing like that idiot Filbert at all! He looks just like you, Josephine. Not the eyes nor the hair though, but he looks like you. A splitting image! Now, I believe I know what you came here for?” the old lady said.

“Yes, so, can we come in now? Let’s just take this privately.” Says Josephine as all of them entered the house.

The inside was lit by candles and it smells weird. Abraham looked around and saw that there’s a lot of magical equipment around, including dozens of grimoires and then some crystal balls. That made him speculate that this woman is actually a diviner. The three then sat around this circle table which has a crystal ball at the middle and some grimoires.

“Now, Josephine, I’m about to step into the boundaries of mana. Your son will be screaming often as I perform this, are you ready?” Marge asked.

“Rather than seeing him gets overpowered by his own magic, yes, I’m ready.” Josephine confidently replied.

However, Abraham is in such confusion that he doesn’t know what’s happening anymore.

“Boy, once we enter, don’t stray away from me. I’m just going to check which attribute you have, so we can know how to properly control it before you use it. It will hurt your head a little, but it’s normal.” Marge reminded.

Abraham doesn’t really get it, but he nodded in agreement. He just needs to stay with her, eh? Well, that’s easy. Marge then held Abraham’s left hand and asked him to close his eyes and concentrate. As Abraham closed his eyes, he then started to go deeper into silence. That’s when Marge touched Abraham’s forehead. When light shined, Abraham then began screaming, Josephine closed her eyes as she doesn’t want to see her son like this, but it’s a must, since it’s for his own safety. Abraham opened his eyes and was breathing heavily. He was then in this dark place where he can’t see a thing,

“You’re in your attribute plane. A place where you can see your attributes and see their abilities. You’ll gain access to this place once you become a successful mage, but for now, we are here to know your attributes. To control it, before it overflows.” Says Marge as her voice bounced around the place.

And then, the place then turned bright as crimson string-like things suddenly appeared. Marge then also appeared on Abraham’s left as she then looked up at the crimson strings going around the place,

“Fascinating.” She hushed as she observed the strings.

She has never seen anything like this before. These strings are called the strings of magic. They are the ones that holds the attributes of a mage. However, normal strings are in the same color as the sky, but Abraham’s strings are different. Crimson is his string color which is either a sign of an ominous future or a sign of future greatness. In any case, Marge did what she needs to in this place. She grabbed one of the strings as she then pulled it. The strings began to circulate randomly. Abraham stepped back and stood right beside Marge, as he was not sure what’s happening. And then, Marge grabbed this small orb that is attached to the strings.

“Look at it, young one. Look at your amazing attribute.” Marge then offered Abraham the orb.

Abraham looked into it and saw that inside the orb, there are some lightning strikes.

“My attribute is…”

“Yes, lightning is your attribute. You are now one of the 5 people in the world who can use this magic. However, the power of this element is far beyond your control, not to mention the other magical attributes you will awaken soon. But for now, let’s go back before your mother thinks that you are dead.” Marge

claimed as they then left the plane.

Abraham returned to the real world with a start as he suddenly kneed the table, which sent electricity to his whole body. Marge came to also as Josephine then bombarded her with questions. Marge then told her what she saw. Abraham’s strings are crimson, which she isn’t sure what that meant since it’s the first time she’s seeing it. But what she does know is that leaving the lightning element in the hands of an 8-year-old is dangerous. That’s why, Marge suggested that Abraham should stay with her until he is able to fully control his magic. It’s not like Marge is distrusting Filbert and Josephine’s guidance, since both of them are mages also. But the safest hands are hers, so if they want to fully make sure that their son doesn’t get overwhelmed by his own magical prowess, then he should stay with her. She could also need an apprentice. She promised to train the boy as much as she can, but she can’t promise that she will make the boy strong as she doesn’t specialize in combat. What she can teach him is to control his powers to just an extent that he will be able to us it without causing chaos.

“If that’s the only way, then I will talk to Filbert about it.” Says Josephine.

Marge nodded as she then looked at Abraham,

“Son, can I foresee the future for you? Something is bugging me, and I don’t want it to stay with me forever.” Marge asked.

Abraham looked at his mother for permission as she just nodded since it’s for her son’s own good. Marge then instructed Abraham to put two hands on the table and close his eyes again as she will try to read his future. Marge asked Josephine to go upstairs for now as performing divination with someone else in the room will just ruin the spell. Josephine agreed as she reminded Marge to take it easy. As the door upstairs closed, Marge started. She said some incantations and then her eyes and the crystal ball suddenly glowed. She began muttering some inaudible words that can’t be understood. She might be speaking in tongues, but Abraham didn’t want to botch the spell. And then, shit happened.

Marge then started screaming words as the house rumbled,

Sword! 8! Twins! Absorb! Copy! Repel! King of Olympus!” and with that final scream, Marge woke up and immediately turned the spell off.

The surroundings started to calm down as the lights in her eyes and in the crystal ball stopped. Josephine came storming down the stairs as she saw Marge. She was breathing heavily and is sweating buckets. Terrified on what she just saw, Marge looked at Abraham and asked herself if this boy is really the son of Filbert and Josephine. If he really is, then the Warlock family have gained such a great talent.

“What happened?!” Josephine asked as she rushed to the aid of Marge.

Abraham felt bad, as he thinks that it’s his fault,

“I saw your son’s future. However, something is preventing me from going further. So, I only saw what will happen in the next 10 years. And now I have confirmed, that the best decision, is for him to stay here with me until he can control his magic. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need some rest. Come back once you have decided. Thank you.” Marge thanked as she then left the 2.

Josephine shrugged as they then went back home. Filbert was still fixing the room when Josephine called her into the house to talk. They discussed what Marge suggested, and Filbert agreed to it, if it’s the only way to make sure that their son is safe. So, they went to pack Abraham’s things up and send him tomorrow into the care of their trusty friend. Marge has been a family friend since Filbert and Josephine’s younger days, she is the best diviner in the 7th Kingdom, so it’s not that hard to trust her. Meanwhile, Marge who is in her room and was smoking some brown stuff while looking out her room’s window. She puffed the smoke out of her mouth as she then looked up the fair sky,

Abraham Warlock. I will forever remember that name.” Marge thought to herself.

As what she saw will remain hidden and she just needs to wait until those events take place.

⚔️⚔️⚔️

It’s now the day of Abraham departing. His stuff is already packed and Filbert will be the one to accompany him to reach Marge’s house.

“Be good there, okay? Marge might be a handful sometimes, but she’s a great person. Just don’t do anything reckless, bye, son.” Says Josephine as warm liquid trickled down her face as she hugs her son.

Abraham sighed,

“Mom, I’m just going to be at the town nearby, you know? I’m not really going to—”

“Yeah?” Josephine then tightened her hug that made Abraham think that his mother was a former bear.

Josephine let go of her son as she gave him some more reminders. After that, Josephine kissed her beloved son on the forehead as Filbert and Abraham then went to go to Marge’s place. They arrived there and was welcome by Marge who puffing smoke on her porch while sitting on a rocking chair.

“You made the right decision! But I don’t think I’m right with my mine.” Marge shouted.

She then stood up her chair that is going back and forth and then she grabbed her walking stick as she welcomed Abraham and Filbert. Marge hugged Filbert as it has been so long since they last saw each other.

“I’m going to entrust my son to you, don’t do anything stupid. He’s all yours until he is finished with his training.” Filbert reminded as he then patted his son’s back.

Marge chuckled and smoke came out her mouth at the same time,

“Don’t worry. I won’t turn your son into a frog just like when I accidentally turned you into one. Rest assured, he’s in good hands.” Marge assured in her most confident tone.

Filbert sighed as he really hopes so. He then left Abraham with a single reminder, that is that Abraham should not do anything stupid also. And with that, Filbert left his son in the care of their old friend.

“Well, come on inside, we’ll start immediately.” Says Marge as she then goes in her house.

She told Abraham to go upstairs and his room will be the first door on the right. Abraham grabbed his stuff and went upstairs. He opened the door which Marge told him to go in. The creaky door opened as it revealed a dark but visibly messy room. Abraham went in, and as he goes further into the room, his face got caught in some sticky thing that made him stumble and fall flat on the floor. He stood up as he removed that thing in his face. He immediately looked for a candle or some sort to light the room up, but there was nothing. So, he went to the windows and opened it. But as he pulls the panel of the window, it suddenly came off and glass shattered all over the floor. Yep, he didn’t even need a day before breaking something immediately. However, the sun lights the whole room up, and it was messier than Abraham thought it would be. Crates, books, cobwebs and dusts are everywhere. It seems that this room hasn’t been cleaned for a millennium. Abraham sighed, as his life under the tutelage of Marge will be harder than he thought. Before he could start his training, he first grabbed some cleaning tools as he then made this dirty room into his new room. Marge, who got sick of waiting for an hour now at her back porch, rushed upstairs to see what that brat was doing,

“Warlock! Where the hell are you?! I told you to—” Marge lashed out, but as she turned around to look into the room, it was already clean.

No dust, cobwebs or anything messy can be seen. The books that have been totally scattered around the room are now in the currently clean crates and is now in the left corner of the room. The bed has been cleaned also so that Abraham could sleep on it. Speaking of sleeping, Abraham is sitting on a chair, besides the window and was sleeping as his hair was being blown by the puffs of the wind. Marge just smiled, as she will let her apprentice rest before he could start studying about mana. Because starting today, Abraham will undergo hard training that will hone him as a great mage someday.
