Chapter Two

Sir Herbert left the mayor's office and his men directed him to the monk’s residence. His house is built near a forest and the natural ventilation of the environment was second to none. Monk Pat was having his usual prayer when they touched down at his residence. The Carten’s police were stopped from interrupting him by the men of the Mayor who them to his residence.

Monk Pat was one of the most respected men in the city of Vatice. Some of the local inhabitants referred to him as a god and they did visit him anytime they have a problem because he wasn’t only spiritual but wise and intelligent. They stood opposite his temple where he was praying until he was done.

The men from the mayor bowed their heads as he went on his toe approaching him.

“You guys seemed to be from the higher authority,” Monk Pat said.

“Yes. I am here on behalf of the Mayor who ordered me to bring these men here. They were the Carten police sent from UltraDope to you by President Humphrey.”

Sir Herbert saw the need to enter the conversation.

“You presence needed in UltraDope by President Humphrey.”

The Monk was silence for a few seconds. He already knew why he was invited. He nodded and signaled the security men sent to lead the way. They initially went to the mayor office from there, the flight was taken back to the capital city, UltraDope.

The President wasn’t having his thought easy. He was seated in his office changing positions and couldn’t wait to have the monk in his presence. President Humphrey was ready to devour him and force word out of his mouth. A few minutes, later they touched down in UltraDope after landing at the Cartens local airport and they were conveyed to the capital.

The monk was left outside the President’s office as Sir Herbert paced in to the president’s office to inform him of the Monk’s presence.

“Sir. The monk is here.”

Humphrey stood up from his seat forthwith and strode out as Sir Herbert walked behind him. He saw the monk and the police surrounded him.

“You are the bad fated monk who only see dark things. You prophecy that a child will be born with a nefarious fate. Who told you that?”

“I was told by the gods.”

The president stared at him and smirked. He ambled nigher to him and grabbed the red rob he tied around his body. The monk head was bald with a skinny body yet looked firm on the ground. Monk Pat was always on a red robe which had been a kinda personality cloth which everyone in Vatice known him for.

“Who is the mother of the child coming to the world with this dark fate?” Humphrey asked.

“I don’t know.”

Humphrey got infuriated and left his rob. It was already roughen by the tight gripped of it. He gazed at General Herbert.

“Who is the mother of the baby with the dark fate?”

The monk was quiet. He didn’t have the intention to give a response.

“Take him to the prison. Until he disclose who the mother of the child is. Until then, he will remain there, rot and die.”

The Monk was quiet as he was being led to the prison. It was a decision that wasn’t surprising to Sir Herbert. He knew how much the president didn’t rate the monks especially the naysayers who did spread untrue rumour just to gain popularity in the country. Humphrey was an atheist who didn’t believe in the existence of spirituality.

The Carten’s police drew the monk out of the president’s office to the prison where he was locked up. Sir Herbert walked to the Minister Hemingway’s office.

“The monk has been locked up.”

Minister Hemingway was surprised because he just finished talking with the mayor of Vatice who also confirmed the prophecy when the monk was taken to his office before they board the flight to UltraDope. Vatice Mayor, Mr Darlington had thought to be following the event through the Minister Hemingway.

“Why was he lock up? Because of the prophecy?” Hemingway asked.

“No. The president asked him to disclose the whereabouts of the mother of the child coming to the world with the dark fate and he couldn’t give a response.”

“What if he doesn’t know?”

“That’s not my concern. Why didn’t he know the person but the prophecy came to him and he disclosed it.”

“Can you lead me to the prison where he is locked?” Hemingway asked.

Sir Herbert nodded and led the way out of the office. It was a kinda lengthy walk because UltraDope was a large edifice which hundred of offices and departments. They were pacing through the corridor leading to the prison where he was locked. Hemingway entered and wanted to ask the Monk few questions.

“Good day Monk Pat. I am minister of information, Hemingway. I learnt of the prophecy you gave weeks back which had been peddling all over the cities. Can you tell me where the mother of this child is? We aren’t doing anything to her.”

The monk knew who the mother of the baby was. He didn’t want to betray the gods and everything he was doing was in accordance with the instruction of the gods. He remain quiet for a few minutes.

“Minister Hemingway. I was sent by the gods to announce this message. It had been revealed to me many years ago which I keep to myself. I was just told to reveal it. When it is the time to reveal who the mother of the baby is, I will,” Monk Pat said.

Minister Hemingway withdrew himself, exhaled heavily and gazed at Sir Herbert. At that point, there was nothing he could do. He went on his toe and left the monk where he straddle looking at one direction since he entered. He and Sir Herbert walked out of the prison together.

“Will President Humphrey exercise patience?” Hemingway asked sir Herbert.

Sir Herbert couldn’t give a response to it. Hemingway knew how close Sir Herbert was to the president and their relationship. He was the only one who could convince the president at the moment, even though they all know how stubborn he could be and he was scared of any treacherous act that might lead to the killing of the monk.
