The attack of the beasts

We have to go over the bridge and into the island.

We cannot stop now. Even though the amount of beast inside the island is too much.

We must wipe these things out as quickly as possible, before they start spreading to the other islands.

"General Dwight, what's the plan?"

I speak to General Dwight, but his face is totally immersed in the death of his messenger.

His face is totally off and turned away from the current situation, but. Besides that. A flame of gigantic hatred is seen kindling within him.

"General, we must move."

I tap her shoulder to get her to try to react to the situation, but it's as if she's talking to herself.

"Elizabeth, stand back. I'll finish off these evil creatures myself."

The General reacts, but only pushes me away from him somewhat aggressively.

From his back he pulls out a sword. Which he had been holding.

"I'll take it upon myself to take them straight to hell!"

General Dwight, totally losing control. He started running straight towards the beasts located on the bridge without any kind of plan, only with the sword in his hand and his heart full of hate.

"This is not going to go well..."

Charles was the one who said that. With a desperate face, while preparing his bow to attack the beasts from a distance as well.

On the other hand, James just looks with a satisfied smile on his face at Dwight for totally losing control.

"Haaaaaaaaaa!"

General Dwight lets out a scream as his sword begins to glow and expel light blue sparks.

After only a few seconds, the sword began to expel lightning from itself.

At the situation one of the beasts. Specifically the one Dwight was addressing, began to look directly at him.

Its stature is about 10 feet tall, and it has a rather thick and strong body.

The Beast has a face completely filled with blood from devouring the soldiers that General Dwight sent.

His facial expression is totally terrifying. Showing all his sharp teeth, while showing no emotion whatsoever on his face as if he has no life.

The only thing that can be seen on the beast's face is pleasure in mercilessly devouring every single person who tried to fight against them.

"Dieeeeeeee!"

General Dwight, without thinking about it. He aimed his sword directly at the chest of the beast due to the fact that that is the weak point of each of them, if the heart is destroyed, they are finished.

Using his hand, the beast parried General Dwight's attack.

Now, the beast is holding the sword in his hand.

With the great strength it possesses, it can hold the sword as if nothing.

"Shit!"

"I have to finish you off!"

General Dwight, desperate and angry. He started to use all his strength to try to penetrate the beast's hand and finally be able to attack the beast's chest.

But it is useless...

The beast, as if it were a toy, can hold without any complication the maximum force being used by General Dwight.

"We must help him..."

I say that, as I start to slowly move forward to help General Dwight.

"Don't."

James says that, as he stops me with his hand.

"What do you say?"

I reply with a bit of annoyance for refusing to help a fellow soldier.

"Just watch. This is Dwight's fight, so we have no business interfering in it."

James says that without averting his attentive gaze from General Dwight's fight.

"What you're saying doesn't make any sense!"

"We are all here for the same reason!"

I reply. Angry, at the stupid answer he gave me.

"Likewise, how could you help Dwight? You're an apostle and you don't even deserve that position, you got there because of the help of your husband who is sadly dead."

James, turns to look at me, with a mocking facial expression. Clearly trying to offend me by his words.

"Shut up..."

I try to respond, but it's as if the words can't come out of my mouth.

Why can't I respond to him....

I know he has a higher rank than me....

Maybe he is right in what he is saying?

"What's wrong?"

"Are you indirectly agreeing with me?"

James, he keeps mocking me and trying to break my morale and my self-esteem.

At what he says, I can only stare at him with hatred, but I can't respond.

"James, stop it. This is not the time to be arguing with each other."

Charles. Who is never usually serious. He answers James.

"Do whatever you want."

James just replies that and pulls his hand away from me, failing to stop me.

...

The fight between General Dwight continues in the same way, limiting itself to just being a fight between each other's strength.

"Don't underestimate me you fucking beast!"

"You won't win against me!"

General Dwight, yells at the beast, not giving up and admitting defeat against it.

The beast, just looks at General Dwight as if it was facing an ant.

"Electric charge!"

General Dwight shouts that and the lightning bolts that were surrounding the sword now started to quickly head towards the beast's hand area.

The lightning finally forms an electric field around the beast's hand.

The beast just looks at what is happening, not giving it much importance.

"You'll see how I'll completely finish you off, you damned monstrosity."

General Dwight again shouted at the beast again.

The magic that General Dwight uses is lightning or electric, therefore, it produces quite a bit of damage in combat, but it requires a certain charging process to exert an attack.

The beast's hand, almost instantly after General Dwight shouted that, began to swell and turn red.

"Now you will see how you die!"

"This is for killing all my soldiers!"

"Electric blast!"

After General Dwight shouted that last sentence....

the beast's hand exploded

Spewing a large amount of yellow liquid onto the wood of the bridge.

That's the blood that the beasts have....

It is very different from that of humans....

The beast simply had the slightest reaction of recoiling a little when it saw its hand explode.

But there is no sign of pain or suffering on its face.

That clearly says quite a bit about the type of enemy we are facing.

The beast, after stepping back. He raised his arm to get it closer to his face.

Therefore, it began to look at the wound General Dwight inflicted on its arm.

The beast only looks at his arm, which has no hand, at the same time. It also looks at General Dwight, the one who caused it.

The beast's facial expressions have not changed at all.

It still maintains the same terrifying smile showing its sharp teeth....

"Now I will destroy you!"

"Electric sheath!"

General Dwight, again aggressively re-wielded his sword and aimed it straight at the beast's chest.

"Die!"

...

As he was only a few inches away from burying the sword into the beast's chest and finally destroying the heart....

The beast had the reflex to strike the sword in the side with its left hand. Which is still intact, changing the direction of the sword several centimeters to the right.

The sword was buried in that area, being considerably away from the heart.

"Don't think doing that will save you!"

"Electric Blast!"

General Dwight again once again used the same ability he had used recently.

This time, an electric flash came to the fore. Which caused a significant glow on the right chest area of the beast.

The color that began to emerge from that area is too light blue, it even causes some pain in the eyes to see it directly.

General Dwight closed his eyes before the explosion to avoid being blinded by the glow.

Following General Dwight's lead, both James and Charles and I positioned our hands in front of our eyes so as not to see.

...

Slowly and almost at the same time, we all began to open our eyes.

"What!"

All 4 of us, we are shocked, to the point of screaming.

What our eyes are seeing is completely unbelievable....

This can't be real...

General Dwight's attack caused a gigantic hole in the chest of the beast, just as he had predicted.

But...

The heart of the beast is completely intact...

Without receiving a single scratch...

You can see the entire inside of the beast in the open air and how its foul yellow blood drips from the inside.

The Hole is of a considerable size that you can even see through the beast.

The inside of the beasts is not much different from ours, their flesh is pale red and they possess organs just like us, the only thing that is different from us is their blood.

"It's not possible..."

"How did that not kill you?..."

General Dwight's face changed drastically from anger and satisfaction at believing he was winning the fight. To total fear.

He even began to tremble with terror at not understanding what is going on.

It is completely rare to see General Dwight like this, while he is young and hasn't been a general for long, it never interfered with his leadership and combat ability.

But...

This time is different, I notice General Dwight very different than other times.

He is much more emotional than usual.

He can't fight in that state...

After all, it must be very hard to fight against the creatures that killed your closest and most trusted platoon.

To General Dwight, they weren't just soldiers, they were friends or even family.

...

"Yuck."

"Yuck."

To make matters worse, a foul smell began to emanate from the wound the beast inflicted on General Dwight.

The damn smell began to cover us. Which made it impossible not to hold your nose because of the nausea it causes.

"Burg!"

Charles, was weaker and ended up vomiting from the disgust caused by the smell.

"Cough Cough!"

On the other hand, General Dwight started coughing desperately as he was the closest to the smell.

It can even be appreciated as if he was running out of breath.

General Dwight in despair. He dropped the sword and let it fall to the ground. Then he remained on his knees and finally began to beat his chest to try to breathe, while at the same time holding his nose so as not to inhale the nauseating smell.

General Dwight was left completely defenseless to be attacked by the beast.

"Damn..."

"We must help General Dwight."

Seeing the situation, I whispered that.

I want to move forward, I really want to.

I want to join the fight to try to help General Dwight.

But I'm immobile...

I'm not what Roxanne thinks I am....

I'm not a hero like she thinks.....

"Damn it."

"Move. Damn body..."

I can't do it...

I'm terrified...

Even though I'm experienced, I'm scared.

I'm too scared.

Even my legs are shaking too much.

If General Dwight couldn't defeat one of those things.

What's in store for me and the other soldiers?

Besides, there are too many of them and when they finish devouring the remains of the dead soldiers, they will start moving to the other islands.

At that moment everything will be over...

They are going to massacre all the people....

They will devour them all.

...

"Hey!"

It was James who shouted at me.

As I'm immersed in my thoughts, I decide to look at him, but then I look away.

I don't understand how he can still keep that usual sour, confident face in a situation like this.

It's as if nothing is bothering him.

"I'm talking to you!"

James yells at me again, as he tugs on my shoulder.

Again I look him in the eyes.

"Your dear General is in trouble, isn't he?"

James asks me that as he diverts his gaze to General Dwight's situation.

"Answer me!"

James urges me.

"Yes, he is in trouble."

I answer him, in a low tone, as I look down at the ground.

"So what are you going to do?"

"Are you going to stand here and watch him die?"

"Or will you help him?"

"I honestly don't care."

"To me, you're completely useless."

"But..."

"Dwight has a lot of respect for you, doesn't he?"

"Are you going to disappoint him?"

"The decision rests with you."

Why are you saying these things to me right now?

I don't know what decision to make.

I want to help him because it's clearly my duty, plus I consider him a great friend.

But...

I have 2 daughters and one is still very young.

I can't afford to die in combat....

Someone must take care of them.

...

The Beast now, reached out his hands to hold General Dwight by the neck, leaving him in the air.

"No!"

In reaction, both Charles and I said that.

Hell, this time I really must move, I can't stand still.

But what if we get the attention of the other Beasts?

If we do that, we're done for.

There are no reinforcements in this area and we wouldn't have enough time to call them.

The Beast now began to strangle Dwight.

Luckily, the light armor he has protects him from suffocating to death.

But it won't hold up forever....

If too much pressure is exerted, it will break.

"We must attack."

Charles said that, while drawing his bow to aim at the beast's arm.

He's willing to cut it off to free Dwight.

But Charles isn't entirely sure about whether he should shoot either.

What if the beast uses Dwight's body for cover?

We don't know what these things are capable of.

They're different than what's out there.

"Charles, put that bow down. Now."

James, said that to Charles.

"What are you talking about?"

"This is no time for jokes!"

"Our partner is in trouble!"

Charles, angry, replies to James.

He again aims his bow directly at the beast, this time focusing the arrow directly at the beast's heart.

After all, the beast has not yet regenerated, so that gives him a chance to destroy it.

If it regenerates in time, everything will be over.

"Charles, if you shoot, I will attack you."

James, willing, answers that, while positioning his arm behind his back to be ready to draw his weapon in time.

I don't know if James is entirely serious.

James is very hard to predict.

"Stop talking Nonsense, James."

Charles snaps back at James, furious that he's wasting James' time.

"The decision is going to rest with Elizabeth!"

"I won't let you interfere, Charles!

"I want the good-for-nothing to prove whether she deserves her current title!"

James, Again replies to Charles, as he forcibly slams Charles' shield to knock him to the ground.

"You're losing your mind, James."

"You're gambling a partner's life on stupidity."

Charles just said that, with a deep stare at James.

"Whatever you say."

"So, Elizabeth, what are you going to do?"
