Chapter Two

Monsters?!

In a certain hospital, in a certain world, there laid a young man on an hospital bed; the man looked to be around 18 years of age, blonde hair, blue eyes, bushy eyebrows, double eyelids, straight nose and a sharp jaw. He would have been considered handsome, except for his extremely pale skin and dead looking eyes.

"Hmmmn?, thought I died", the young man muttered. Looking at himself, Jacob suddenly had a spark of enlightenment;

"I transmigrated, didn't I?", he muttered again.

As an average Joe, he had read many novels when he was bored, so the idea of transmigration wasn't new to him.

Wondering about the identity of the person whose body he jumped into, Jacob suddenly felt a sharp pain in his brain;

Restraining the urge to scream out, Jacob digested the memories of the person whose body he was inhabiting.

The young man's name was also Jacob Nicholas, also an average Joe, but their circumstances were quite different.

The world which Jacob[New] lived in was different. Although the geographical environment was similar to earth, their ecosystem was different.

in this world[New], they had magic; yes, Magic.

There were some groups of people who were born with Magic, and there were some people who managed to gain magical powers through fortuitous encounters. These people were all called Awakeneds. But, it wasn't only the humans that had magical powers, even animals did.

The Awakeneds banded together, but the animals couldn't.

So, it became a world of chaos, Awakened beasts running around wild, killing any human they came across.

The Awakeneds formed guilds, subduing the animals they could, training them, and directly killing those that couldn't be subdued.

Little by little, the humans, with the help of strong Awakeneds, were able to gain back their lost territory from the Monsters; they set up boundaries around the edge of cities, marking safe zones, which were safe for humans to inhabit, and red zones, where the Monsters couldn't be completely eradicated.

Guard posts were stationed at the edge of each safe zones, to combat against the occasional beast hordes.

But, not all humans were lucky enough to be awakened, so the ones not awakened were left with the odd jobs around the cities, like mining and construction, while Awakeneds were worshipped as gods wherever they went.

Jacob's parents were such, non-awakeneds, his dad and mom were assistant receptionists in one of the guilds in their city, the White Hunters guild.

But, the day before Jacob[Old] transmigrated, their home was attacked by a bunch of Monsters, and his parents were eaten, right before Jacob's eyes. The visual impact knocked Jacob unconscious. Awakeneds were dispatched to the Nicholas' home, and he was luckily saved before he could be eaten by the Monsters.

But he died in the hospital, which paved the way for Jacob's[old] soul to enter into his body.

Sighing, Jacob shook his head, saddened by the fact that he couldn't even have parents in both of his lives.

'But, the Nicholas' home was located in the safe zone, how did Monsters get in?', Jacob thought, wandering about the suspiciousness of things.

'My parents in my first life were killed under suspicious circumstances, and even my parents in this world were too', Jacob thought, suddenly feeling unsettled about the uncanny coincidence.

"You're up", a voice drifted into Jacob's ear, jolting him from his reverie.

Looking up, he saw a middle-aged man, dressed in suits addressing him. Going through his memories, he remembered this man was the doctor assigned to him. He was a Rank C healer; Awakeneds were ranked, from F being the lowest to S being the highest.

"Yeah, can I go now??", Jacob asked, deciding not to trust anyone.

"Not so fast, how are you feeling, any mild headache or hallucinations??", the man asked.

"No, I'm good", Jacob replied curtly; he could feel a strong hint of danger from the man.

"Are you sure??, you could stay here a bit longer, at least until the White Hunters guild get a new apartment for you", the man implored, with a friendly smile on his face.

"New apartment??, why??"

"Although the Monsters did not damage any property in your house, we think it would be too much of a trauma for you to go back to that house", the man said.

"No, don't get me a new apartment, I'm fine with the old house", Jacob replied.

"Alright, it has been cleaned already and the surroundings have been combed, so you don't have to worry about any monsters breaking in again, you can get new clothes from the receptionist downstairs, since your old clothes were, um, stained with blood."

"Thank you for everything, I'm good"

"Do you need a ride home??"

"No, I don't, I'll just walk home"

"Alright, the White Hunters guild will contact you tomorrow, you can tell them anything you need". Jacob nodded, stepping past the man and walking down the hallway towards the exit.

"Although I didn't know your parents, from what I heard about them, they were good people, what happened to them should not have happened", the man said, still with that friendly smile on his face.

Slightly turning around, Jacob looked over his shoulders towards the man and said "Yes, it shouldn't have happened", and walked away.

The man stared hard at Jacob's back and when he turned the corner, the smile vanished from the man's face; whipping out his communication device, the man typed a message

~Their child is still alive. Should I go for Plan B?~

Almost immediately, his communication device vibrated, on it was a message;

~Since he managed to survive, let us just watch him for a while~

~Noted~

Staring at the place where Jacob turned the corner, the man muttered, "Kid, you sure are lucky". Turning around, the man headed towards his office.

Outside the hospital, Jacob had no idea of what just happened; pulling the hoodie of his jacket over his head, he walked briskly towards his home. But he had just taken a few steps when he froze, staring at the space in front of him. If there were anybody passing by, they would have thought he was hit by a freeze spell.

Jacob also had no idea he was standing in the middle of the road, because, in front of him was a blue screen, and on it was the word; **INITIALIZING**

(Author's Note:Pardon the Jacob[old] and Jacob[new], it was to differentiate between the Jacob[old] that came from earth and the Jacob[new] whose body our MC is inhabiting.

Thank you very much)
