"King Julian of Muzez, show yourself this minute!" A loud, menacing voice thundered across the encampment following a series of explosions. The voice of the soldiers outside the tent interrogating the owner of the voice and asking him not to come closer could be heard, as well as the sound of them unsheathing their swords and preparing to engage with the stranger.Inside the royal tent, King Julian trembled at the sound of the voice. Even without seeing the face of this person or knowing their intention, he could already tell it wasn't a good one.Osborne was also very concerned, he could sense a strong, dark magical presence the moment the explosions occurred outside.William pieced together the actions of the corrupted creatures earlier, the details of his urgent quest and the arrival of the stranger and got a clearer and wider understanding of what was happening.'Someone’s been targeting the king all along, and those corrupted creatures were his undead puppets meant to capture him

[ Target is preparing a spell, Beware ]William observed the warning with a grin on his face. His eyes lingered on the movement of Nervered who was preparing a spell, taking in every motion."This is bad, hero!"The soldiers began to panic and even tried to warn William to back away from Nervered. But William was adamant. He remained unfazed, his eyes locked on the cultist. His confident reaction in the face of danger made the cultist chuckle admirably.A few seconds passed and Nervered finished preparing his spell. A mesmerizing glowing magic circle appeared in his outstretched right hand. The magic circle materialized into a wisp of blue fire right under their gaze and in the next moment it shot towards their position at an astonishing speed. The soldiers panicked right away. The fireball was too fast for them to evade at such a close distance, and even if they did manage to dodge it, it would only strike the royal tent and hurt the king. They involuntarily froze on the spot."Too s

The dim glow of the moon bathed the encampment where the corpses of numerous corrupted creatures as well as soldiers could be seen littering the ground. The burnt tent and the scattered campfire could be seen as well, releasing white fumes into the dark night.Further away from the encampment, the remaining crew members could be seen chanting words of prayer as they prepared to bury their comrades that had lost their lives protecting the king. They all had solemn expressions but none were as sorrowful as the king who could not hold back the tears dripping from his eyes. Theobald and Osborne stood beside him, silently observing the corpses.Constantly, Theobald clenched his fist and gritted his teeth with rage — the corpse of his comrades laid before him, each slaughtered in the most inhumane manners that made them revolting to even look at.It pained the captain that he had failed to protect his men once again. He felt even more ashamed of himself, recalling just how frightened he was

Morning arrived swiftly over the barren plain, the sun hung in the sky, bathing the earth in its radiant glow.At the encampment, the corpses of hundreds of corrupted creatures slain last night by the hero had already vanished with the first light of the day.At present, the few soldiers left could be seen sitting solemnly around a small campfire. Their faces were devoid of joy as they heated their breakfast, not a single discussion was held among them. Not so far away from the campfire, William and Theobald could be seen swinging their swords in unison, tracing the same pattern and creating a harmonious sword dance.Theobald perspired profusely as he had been swinging his sword nonstop for more than four hours now. Though worn out, he refused to give up the only chance he had at improving his sword technique beyond its current level. On the other hand, William was the exact opposite — the hero appeared as though he had just begun training, not a single drop of sweat could be seen on

Now, within the confinement of the maleficent tunnel, the crew was greeted by a putrid smell of unknown origin. The odor was so overpowering that they had to fashion a new set of makeshift nose masks to cover their noses, even though these only made breathing more difficult inside the tunnel, which already lacked fresh air.Even with the nose masks on, they could not completely evade the strange stench. It was far worse than the smell at the feared Bridge of the South, of course, excluding its hallucinating effect. Some of the soldiers even began to puke non-stop, delaying the journey a little bit.It took a tremendous amount of willpower for William to stop himself from throwing up as well. He could only wonder what—and where—the smell was coming from.William knew the scent of rotten corpses, having grown up in the trenches where people died regularly from starvation and crime. But he could swear that this smell was a hundred times worse than that—even sewage doesn’t smell this bad.

Time moved comically slowly within the tunnel, the crew watching their comrade helplessly as a strange creature dragged him into the heap of skeletal remains.Only the hero and the captain were able to come back to their senses and make a move to save the soldier. The captain unsheathed his weapon and the hero equipped his own, and both dashed towards the commotion.William moved at a speed several times faster than Theobald and arrived before the helpless soldier in a split second. Not wasting an instant, he lifted his sword and executed a quick downward slash, splitting the flexible bony hand in two and freeing the soldier.Theobald arrived at just the right moment. He quickly grabbed the soldier and pulled him away from danger. The other half of the strange bony appendage wiggled and retracted back into its hideout among the bones. A movement within the heap was easily noticed by everyone, including William.SCREECH!Before the crew could grasp the situation, a menacing screech ech

Inside the tunnel, the clangor of blade colliding against the bony hands of the abnormality could be heard.Theobald could be seen swinging his swords against the two bony hands that constantly tried to stab his heart. The captain was already perspiring, having been swinging his sword non-stop for more than ten minutes against the rapid attacks. Not so far away, William could be seen sprinting towards the main body of the abnormality while blocking off the other hands twisting towards him from different directions. His uniform was already stained with blood from two new injuries sustained in the last ten minutes. His body was constantly reminded of the pain as he moved around."Caring about the hands would only lead to exhaustion. I need to find a way to end its life before it ends mine," William concluded.Since he arrived in this world, this was the only time he doubted his capability to survive. The three injuries on his body made him realize how possible his death was.SCREECH!Th

William’s feet were planted on the ground, his eyes locked on his target and the multiple attacks spiralling toward him simultaneously. Both the abnormality and the crew had concluded in their hearts that there was no possible way for the hero to survive the attacks.King Julian’s face was already etched with worry and defeat. The others around him had their hands on their heads, already mourning the hero’s inevitable downfall. Some bit their fingers in frustration. As the attacks lunged toward the hero, their eyes widened with emotions ranging from sorrow to frustration. But then the unthinkable happened.Just a split second before the attacks would reach him, he made an impossible move.He expertly vaulted onto the two hands lunging at him from the front and sprinted across them with inhuman speed and balance. He used the abnormality’s hands as a path to its own head."What!"Theobald was at a loss for words witnessing the hero’s movement. Not only was it difficult to evade such a c
