Time moved comically slowly within the tunnel, the crew watching their comrade helplessly as a strange creature dragged him into the heap of skeletal remains.

Only the hero and the captain were able to come back to their senses and make a move to save the soldier. The captain unsheathed his weapon and the hero equipped his own, and both dashed towards the commotion.

William moved at a speed several times faster than Theobald and arrived before the helpless soldier in a split second. Not wasting an instant, he lifted his sword and executed a quick downward slash, splitting the flexible bony hand in two and freeing the soldier.

Theobald arrived at just the right moment. He quickly grabbed the soldier and pulled him away from danger.

The other half of the strange bony appendage wiggled and retracted back into its hideout among the bones. A movement within the heap was easily noticed by everyone, including William.

SCREECH!

Before the crew could grasp the situation, a menacing screech echoed through the tunnel as the abnormality revealed itself, leaping out of its previous hiding place.

The revelation of the abnormality sparked fear in everyone’s heart. Some froze, while others lost their composure and collapsed onto the ground, shivering. Even William felt his heart skip a beat at its appearance.

The abnormality, standing not far from them, measured around ten meters in height with a robust width. Its presence dominated the space, dwarfing every living creature present. Its appearance was unlike any creature they had ever seen, its body constructed entirely of bone, including its head. Not a single bit of flesh could be found on its form.

IIt stood upon two huge bony feet and its upper torso consisted of eight flexible bony arms, each tipped with sharp claws. Although, one was shorter than the others. It was the same one that had grabbed the soldier earlier, the same one William had split with his sword.

Its eyes were mirror-like, reflecting the sharp glow of the crystal lantern in the hero’s grasp. Those lifeless, terrifying eyes radiated a strong bloodlust towards the humans staring at it, sending shivers down their spines.

“What the heck is that?” the soldier who had been grabbed earlier cried out in a scared voice, crawling backward in fright.

William observed the unnamed abnormality while maintaining a defensive stance, his mind racing to identify what sort of creature it could be.

The bony abnormality fixed its terrifying eyes upon them like an apex predator stalking prey. The only noticeable movement were its writhing bony arms.

In a moment like this, William could only wish he had an inspection skill in his arsenal to discern the name and strength of this abnormality and the ones he would face in the future.

But at the same time, he knew the name and strength didn’t matter. What mattered was taking this monstrosity down before it dealt more damage to the dwindling population.

“Let me hold this for you,” Theobald stepped closer to William and offered to hold the crystal lantern, knowing that only the hero could confront the abnormality.

William handed the crystal lantern over to the captain.

“Step back, all of you. I’ll handle this,” William announced.

He performed a quick stretch and took a bold step closer to the abnormality, which now had its eyes locked on him as if marking him as its new opponent.

SCREECH!

It let out a lengthy screech, its eyes revealing a threatening glint.

The next second, five of the eight flexible arms darted toward William’s position with lethal precision and speed.

William’s eyes shone brilliantly as he analyzed his next move, his hand tightening its grip on his weapon.

CLACK!

CLACK!

CLANG!

The hero evaded four of the arms and parried one of them.

The abnormality let out an enraged howl as it missed its feeble target. It retracted some arms backward and sent the others twisting toward William’s new position, but he did not stop moving.

Two bony hands twined together and lunged after the sprinting hero. The lethal swishing of them tearing through the air could be heard echoing in the tunnel.

William made a quick sidestep and the two bony hands slammed against the rough wall, sending a cracking sound spiraling through the passage. The force of the attack was immense.

The abnormality erupted in an even more enraged screech.

Having its attack toyed with by a mere human fueled its fury. Its killing intent boiled hotter, causing it to send more arms toward him.

Six bony hands spun through the air, aimed at a single person. The speed at which they moved was unpredictable, an average human wouldn’t manage to evade one of them.

Fortunately, thanks to William’s superhuman agility, evading the drifting hands was possible but far more difficult than any abnormality he had faced so far.

“I can’t believe I’m struggling this much against its arms alone,” William muttered as he attempted to split one of the hands that missed stabbing his heart by mere inches. He paused, twisted his arms, and chopped down on the limb.

The sound of his sword slicing through the fast-moving bone mixed with the whoosh of the other arms twisting menacingly toward him as if to protect their injured kin.

The other hands struck at his position all at once.

William gritted his teeth and hurled himself to the side with all the strength he could muster. He evaded some attacks entirely, but one grazed his stomach, tearing through his school uniform and cutting his flesh. The white fabric was instantly stained red.

William flinched in pain and quickly pressed his free hand over the wound in a futile effort to staunch the bleeding.

“It hurts so much, fuck!” he cursed.

His eyes darted upward to see the hands that had missed earlier already moving toward him again.

William cursed and began moving once more. As he sprinted to divert the attacks, the pain intensified.

King Julian and the others grew worried seeing the hero’s condition, their hearts sank at the sight. If he were injured worse already then the chance of surviving the tunnel alone would be at its lowest.

Theobald handed the lantern to Osborne and stepped forward to assist the hero even though he knew it was dangerous.

“I don’t mind sacrificing my life for the hero to survive,” he vowed inwardly as he sprinted into the chaotic battle.

The abnormality’s eyes spotted the towering captain charging and became annoyed. It then sent two of the limbs formerly chasing the hero toward him.

Theobald instantly halted, swung his sword at the first hand that reached his position, and braced himself against the second. The sound of his sword striking the hard bone reverberated across the tunnel.

Theobald wasn’t as fast as William, but he had trained to parry swift attacks like this in his younger days.

Although the hands were faster than what he had trained against, he still managed to defend himself.

With Theobald engaging two hands, William was left with four, reducing his burden. Now that the abnormality’s focus was divided, a much stronger advantage emerged.

Early morning had already arrived over the dark island. The sun shone brightly over the evil island, radiating a strong golden glow and heat. The sun easily permeated the small confinement of the room which only comprised of a few wooden chairs, a bed and a tall wooden cupboard where the previous owner of the room kept their wands and attires.Inside a spacious, dimly-lit room at the dark island, the core members of the two groups could be seen standing around a small desk.Melissa and Peterson brought out a more detailed ancient map of the place and described it to William and Theobald who represented their group. Only two members were allowed to attend the meeting thus both of them were sent."The first three floors are very easy to clear, they comprise mostly of mid-level apprentice wizards with barely enough mana in their mana reserve to cast powerful spells. While they are a little bit stronger than the wizards guarding the fences, they are not that much trouble for a well-traine

The crew ended up spending more than half an hour discussing about the plans to infiltrate the dark tower, how to act within it, how to avoid suspicions, path to follow, and where to find certain important people inside the tower. Most of the explanation was done by Peterson, the trustworthy assassin of Melissa's squad. His information and description were clear and vivid—better than reading it from a map.Melissa and a few members of her squad also added to the information available. As they had been around the tower for several days, their understanding of the place was an important lesson to William and the others.During their discussions, they had to halt several times—either when the surveillance light flashed in their direction or when actual members of the cult walked by.They were able to finish their discussion without drawing that much attention to themselves. After they were done discussing, they began preparing to act on the plans they had just finalized."Here."Melissa

A few of them had huge muscular builds similar to Theobald's.Their strides were filled with arrogance, something the other cultist William had slayed lacked.William was the first to notice the oddity of the group marching in their direction, and he couldn't help but frown. Why were they so different from the others? he asked himself.William kept his eyes on the small group as they closed in on each other. His eyes was fixed on that of the biggest one in the ground who, coincidentally, also had his eyes locked with his. They walked in separate groups, each of them moving in different directions, ensuring that all the perimeter of the fence was covered at all times.A small group of three cultists could be seen strolling together while discussing amongst themselves, unaware of the arrival of an unstoppable opponent."I heard the great leader would be arriving tonight," one of them brought up a new conversation."Frederico told me about that a few hours ago, I thought he was lying. So you guys heard the same thing?" The one in the middle replied."Frederico wasn't lying, I overheard two of our superiors discussing about his arrival.""I suspect something important would go down in a few days. The great leader never visits the tower unless for a very important event, could it be that the preparing of the grand ritual has been completed and he is here to finalize it?"The

William and the crew could be seen strolling towards the vast water body with silent and cautious step. At the moment, each of them had a long black fabric covering their head. The black fabric served as a camouflage each time the beam of the light rotated in their direction. As the land was plain and filled with dark sand and skeletal remains, covering themselves in black clothings made them more difficult to detect from afar.Thankfully, this barren land had no sort of abnormalities, not even corrupted creatures that usually raided the night. If there were unlucky enough to have faced anyone, their location would be revealed to the cult once and their entire plan would be ruined."Walk faster! We need to be at the island before morning arrives!"Theobald announced to the others while strolling beside the hero. After the peculiar sensation of passing through the portal faded, William found himself standing in a strange, unfamiliar location."Wow!"The scene before him prompted the hero to exclaim in genuine astonishment.Spread before his eyes was a vast, barren land plunged into darkness and gloom. Only the faint crescent light of the full moon hanging in the sky battled the intense blackness. Not far from his current position, William’s gaze fell on a truly vast, large water body that stretched over a long distance, seemingly unending from his perspective. The hero needed no geography expert to tell him this was Dark Island, the sacred landmark and hideout of the most terrifying dark wizard cult in this dark world. The sound of water calmly flowing could be heard clearly, and the waters were almost visible as they softly reflected the moon."What is that?"A surprised voice muttered behind the hero as its owner’s eyes suddenly and instantly fell upon a mysterious, silhouetted structure ris
