The Hunt Begins
Chapter 11 – The forest swallowed Nolan whole.Tall trees pressed in from every side, their branches weaving a canopy so thick that only scattered shards of sunlight made it through. The air smelled of wet dirt and rotting leaves. Every step sank slightly into the damp earth, soft and giving beneath his boots. He walked with a strange calmness, as though the dangers lurking in the shadows were merely background noise. His hand rested on the hilt of his dagger, ready. Then he stopped.A small creature bounced into view, wobbling across a patch of moss like a living drop of jelly.A slime. Its translucent body caught the faint light, shimmering with pale blues and greens. It moved without purpose, without thought, simply existing. Nolan tilted his head, studying it. This was his first real monster. The first thing that stood between him and getting stronger. His fingers tightened around the dagger's handle. A strange mix of excitement and nerves fluttered in his stomach."System… stat

Chapter 12 Deep in the forest, Nolan pressed his back against the rough bark of a fallen tree, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. The damp earth soaked through his clothes, cold and unforgiving. Through a narrow gap in the bushes, he watched five goblins tear through a pack of beasts with chilling efficiency. Each monster moved like a trained killer, slaughtering two beasts apiece without hesitation. Nolan's mouth went dry. These weren't the mindless creatures he'd faced before. They were organized. Deadly. "Status," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the rustling leaves. A glowing blue window flickered to life before his eyes. [Monster Status] [Monster: Goblin] [Level: 25] [Class: Goblin Warrior] [Abilities: None] Twenty-five. Nolan swallowed hard. He was only Level 15. The

Chapter 13The five large goblins stared down at the dead bodies of their kin, their yellow eyes narrow and cold. For a long moment, none of them moved. Then, without a word, they split up, one heading east, one west, one north passing by Nolan without notice and the last south.Nolan pressed his back harder against the tree, his heart pounding so hard he thought it might crack his ribs. His breath came in short, silent gasps. Every instinct screamed at him to run."All those goblins are warrior types with their levels over thirty..." he thought, his mind racing. "Am I going to survive even if I attack one at a time?"The goblins vanished into the trees, but Nolan didn't move. His legs felt like water. His hands shook against the bark."Even if I use all the tokens I have now to boost my stats, matching one of those beasts would be death for me," he muttered, sliding down until he sat on the damp earth. He ran his hands through his hair, pulling at the strands. "I need a strategy. No

Chapter 14"This is ridiculous! I'm charging in!"Elowen dashed forward without hesitation, his spear leveled at the nearest goblin's chest. His boots tore through the undergrowth, his face flushed with the heat of battle and the arrogance of someone who had never truly lost."Elowen, don't!!!" the Hero Knight shouted, hand raised, voice cracking with urgency.Too late.In the blink of an eye, the goblin stood before him, its massive axe raised high, blotting out the sun. Elowen's eyes widened, shock punching the breath from his lungs. "Ho... how can it be so fast?"The axe swung.Elowen squeezed his eyes shut, his spear falling from numb fingers. "It's over..." he muttered, his voice small and broken. He'd been so sure. So confident. And now he was going to die because of it.Then a clash of steel on steel echoed through the clearing, sharp and ringing."Snap out of it!!!" a voice roared. "It's not over yet!"Elowen slowly opened his eyes.Balian — the shield hero — stood in front of

Chapter 16 "That's it... The sun has already fallen and it's gone dark. I'm fetching the boy." Ralph's voice was flat, but his hands betrayed him, clenched into fists at his sides, knuckles white as bone. He took a step toward the forest, then another, his boots crunching against the gravel. The darkness beyond the tree line swallowed everything. No light. No sound. Just the endless black mouth of the woods. "My... my... Were you really worried for a troublesome boy like me?" The voice came from everywhere and nowhere, dripping with sarcasm, wrapped in shadows. Ralph froze. Hilda's eyes narrowed, her expression darkening like a storm cloud rolling across the sky. Isabella's eyes widened, her hand flying to her chest as a smile burst across her face, relief so sharp it almost hurt. She released a heavy breath she didn't know she'd been holding, her shoulders dropping, her whole body swaying with the weight of it. "Young master..." Ralph whispered, stopping in his tracks. F

'Chapter 17Back at Nolan's home, Layla stood by the front door, her hands clasped so tightly her knuckles had gone white. Behind her, the maids huddled together like frightened birds, their whispers barely audible over the howling wind outside. Every creak of the old house made them flinch. Every shadow seemed alive. They had been waiting for hours. The door slowly opened with a groan of rusted hinges.Isabella entered first. Her eyes were fixed on the floor, her shoulders slumped, her face drawn and pale, the face of someone who had seen too much and couldn't unsee it. She looked like a mourner at a funeral.Hilda followed, her expression unreadable as stone, but her jaw was clenched tight enough to crack teeth. Then Ralph stepped inside, and Layla's heart stopped. He carried a large sack over one shoulder, something heavy and wet dragging behind him. Blood trailed down the canvas in thick, dark ribbons, pooling on the marble floor with every step he took. The smell hit them first,
Shadows beneath the throne.
Chapter 18"How... How do you..."Isabella's voice cracked, barely a whisper. She stepped back, her heel scraping against the marble, her eyes darting around the grand living room like a trapped animal searching for escape. The chandeliers cast fractured light across her face, making her look like a broken doll.Layla stared at her. Hard. Unblinking.Gold light began to flare around her, faint at first, then brighter, pulsing with every heartbeat. The air grew heavy, charged, dangerous. A mother's protective instinct made manifest."Hmm... So will you agree... Huh??? Issa... I mean Roselite?"The voice came from the couch, soft, mumbled, half-asleep. Nolan's head turned to the other side, his face peaceful, innocent, completely unaware of the storm breaking around him.Layla's aura vanished instantly. She turned toward her son, the gold light dying like a snuffed candle, her eyes searching his sleeping face for... something. Anything. Finding only the soft breathing of a boy too exhau

Chapter 19"Impressive..."Victor's voice cut through the silence like a knife through silk. He began to clap, slow, deliberate, each impact of palm against palm echoing in the stillness. "Bravo. That was truly a spectacle."Isabella and Victor glared at each other across the wreckage of the room. Killing intent crackled between them like lightning seeking ground. Her eyes burned with anger and rage, hot, alive, desperate. His eyes were flat. Dull. Empty as a dried well. He looked at her like she was a painting he was considering buying."If I don't get answers right this moment, then death will follow..."Layla's voice was soft. Too soft. The kind of softness that came before a storm broke everything apart. Her gold aura began to flare again, not bright this time, but deep, heavy, pressing against the air like a physical weight. The chandelier above her swayed though there was no wind. The floorboards groaned.Isabella stepped back, her body shaking uncontrollably. The aura wasn't di

Chapter 20Morning light crept through the curtains, pale and gentle, touching Nolan's face like a mother's fingers. He woke slowly, stretching his arms above his head, a yawn cracking his jaw. But something felt wrong.Something was missing."Hmm..." He sat up, blinking at the empty room. "Ralph should have been here by now. And Isabella with her tray, doing her maid duties, scolding me for sleeping in..."He stared at the doorway, expecting any moment to hear footsteps, to see a shadow cross the threshold. But nothing came. Only silence, heavy and strange."Maybe I'm rushing them..." He swung his legs off the bed, sliding his feet into the soft shoes waiting nearby. "Let me take a shower, then see what happens after."He walked to the bathroom, his bare feet silent against the cold floor.---A few hours later, Nolan returned with a towel wrapped around his waist, another draped over his head like a hood. Water dripped from his hair, tracing paths down his lean frame. He was not mus
