How to Write A Good Web Novel

Edited by Charlotte Holmes

1. Main Character (MC) has to be presented to the readers within 300 words.

2. The first conflict has to occur before the end of the first chapter.

3. Within 3 chapters, the best-selling point of the book has to be fully revealed to the readers

(ex: the system/special skills/golden finger/a great amount of money that the MC has/been given).

4. Within 10 chapters, the plot has to meet its first big climax and the first conflict need to be solved already.

5. After solving the first conflict, there should be a major plot development. At least 3 subplots should be foreshadowed and start going. No matter they’re about MC will get more equipment, learn advanced skills, level up or begin an adventure. The character growth that all the readers are expecting to see depends on these!

6. There should be 3 main plot twists throughout the book, the first one should be finished when the book reaches 100k words.

7. Every main plot twist should be divided into a few stages of the whole book if you want to make it longer. Every stage should have its own foreshadowing, conflicts and solutions.

8. Every stage should include at least 3 different elements. Same as point 5, you can choose whatever elements you want, but make sure that similar plot doesn’t happen over and over again.

9. After every climax, the MC should acquire at least 3 trophies. One that can be effective immediately, one that cannot be used now but is related to future plots, and one that can be given away to do someone a favor or to be sold for money/goods.

10. There should be at least three sidekicks of an opposite sex from the MC. Not all of them need to be involved with MC in a romantic way.

11.

A good story usually has 70% of foreshadowing and 30% of fighting scenes.

12. Similar plots cannot appear more than 3 times throughout the story.

13. There should be no more than 3 different scenes in one single chapter. It may weaken the immersiveness of the story.

14. In one single chapter, there should be 30% of dialogues, 30% of descriptions and 30% of plot development.

15. In one single chapter, narratives and gibberish cannot exceed 300 words.

16. In one single chapter, content that are not related to the theme of the book cannot exceed 300 words. For example, descriptions about MC eating and sleeping.

17. Do not write from more than 2 POVs at the same time

18. The part that MC doing unrelated boring stuffs cannot exceed 30k words.

19. In each chapter, there cannot be more than 3 characters that maybe related to the future plots. Do not write only about fighting scenes in 3 continuous chapters.
