Three Months Ago : Claude

Claude stood quietly among the masses, feeling his blood rush in his ears. Corpses upon corpses littered beneath his feet. Their masses all formed together into one blob of disgusting flesh that rotted under the hot sun. Birds flew overhead, their soft calls warning one to turn away from the grisly sight. All of this… all of this and for what? Who ever dreamed that war would be glorious? That it would be full of victories? War was like a child’s dream… so lovely to imagine… and yet so horrifying to witness. Claude tried to move away from the masses, but his body lurched as his foot caught in one soldier’s open chest cavity. He glanced down, the sweat on his chin slowly falling until it dripped every so slightly down… and directly onto the ashen face of death that stared back at him.

He swallowed thickly as he pulled his foot away with effort, his heavy armor having a difficult time doing so. The stretch, the horrid stench as it pulled. It could only be the stench of death. And the so
