The Wendigo Prince

Friendship Of Wendigo Prince

Two body was on the floor, their heads drooped and eyes wide. Blood was flowing from the gaping wounds on their bodies. A view that made Greraver feel very nauseous. Hundreds of worms like wriggle in his stomach. He turned his face to look away. He didn’t want to see the two bodies.

Unfortunately, his heart beat faster the more he tried to ignore it. Nausea mixed with hunger took over his mind. Greraver’s body turned hot. His skin slowly turned red, it cut his breath off, and sweat poured heavily. He closed his eyes, trying against his own will. A minute later, things got tense.

Greraver roared! His voice echoed, sounding hoarse, a long howl, and filled with agony.

The Greraver’s body curved back. He growled in pain while simultaneously venting anger. His screams from the top of the tower echoed, filling the castle. Greraver’s roar was heard outside the palace. Frightened gripped the guards and maids. The people working inside the palace shuddered in horror at the sound.

They knew Greraver had turned into a creepy creature by that time. Although no one had ever seen Greraver’s transformation except the King, General Vigolous, and of course, his best friend, Dielh. The story of the Prince who turned into a monster has snowballed among the palace servants and the people.

“The Monster has come,” said a palace guard to another guard on duty with him.

“He will kill us all if the king gives him a chance to get out,” his friend replied with a shudder of horror.

“So sad! The Vain Dominion Kingdom will end without the people. Prince Greraver will eat everyone. No one left. People are the nearest food stock for him.”

“May King Zuiniex live long so that Prince Greraver will be immortal in that place.” A hope that their doubt will come true. Considering that King Zuiniex had old age now.

They talked as they saw the tower of the Vain Dominion Royal Castle. The place of The Crown Prince of the Vain Dominion Kingdom for the past fifteen years. Vain Dominion Kingdom was famous for the successful management of gold mines. They recognized the Vain Dominion palace’s grandeur and beauty throughout the European plain.

Forests and mountains on the ocean’s shores bordered the Kingdom. On another side was a vast expanse of royal territory, symbolizing prosperity and well-being. People lived comfortably and orderly. The Kingdom’s only weakness was the Prince, heir to the royal throne, who was always at the top of the royal castle tower.

No one was allowed to visit the place except King Zuiniex, General Vigolous, and Dielh. Only Dielh always came for him every day. He was Greraver’s best friend and servant. Dielh was the son of the War General of the Vain Dominion Kingdom, General Vigolous.

That day, Dielh arrived on time. When he had just returned from the battlefield. As a souvenir, he brought two bodies from the enemy forces that had just been defeated by the Royal Forces of Vain Dominion. At the same time, Greraver turned out to be starving. No! Not a Greraver, but a creature inside him.

Dielh didn’t scare anymore by the sinister figure of Greraver in front of him. He just sat in the room’s corner. Dielh, with curly hair and brown eyes, scanned the Monster’s activity in front of him. He waited for Greraver to finish his meal. Sometimes Dielh felt nauseous when he saw the Monster tearing the lifeless body. The Monster ate both corpses with gusto; he was enjoying a delicious meal.

Sharp teeth, dark hollow eyes, and a pair of horns on the top of the head made the Monster look like a perfect angel of death. The Monster’s body was two meters high. There was no flesh in his body, only composed of bones with stout muscles. A few hairs grew on his neck and nape to part of his back. The Monster’s face looked pointed like a wolf. His mouth contained dozens of pointed teeth measuring along the face. Greraver, in his monster figure, devoured the two corpses in a few minutes.

The greedy voice of the Monster eating the flesh of the two corpses sounded disgusting. He tore the lifeless body into large pieces. Then enthusiastically ate it. The Monster looked so hungry. Blood splashed as the Monster tore apart the corpse with his claws.

Within minutes, the two bodies were barely fleshy. Only the bones remained. Blood pooled on the floor of the Marble Room. The tinny room without furniture was called Greraver’s dining room.

The stuffed Monster sat on the floor. His terrible face was flat. From the gesture, Dielh could see that the Monster with the spooky face was feeling sadness. His eyes stared calmly at the bones scattered in front of him.

Slowly, Greraver turned back into a human. Looking at the bloodied body and face. Greraver closed his eyes. A stinging feeling slipped into his heart, making him feel a pain in his chest. Not because of the pain in his body but a sad feeling that made it hard to breathe. Prince?! Did he still deserve that title?!

“I am a monster,....” He whispered, cursing to himself.

Dielh approached and held Greraver’s arm, “come on, clean yourself up. Let the guards clean this place up.”

Greraver looked into his best friend’s face. His eyes were filled with water, sweat, and blood splashed littered his face. Dielh felt sorry to see Greraver. He took him into the bathroom. Then Dielh closed the door and let Greraver clean himself in the bathroom.

Every year the need for Greraver feeding was getting bigger. He could finish two human bodies only in a few minutes. Dielh began to have difficulty finding food for the Prince. Sometimes, he came with a deer for Greraver’s meal. Because the King only allowed giving the bodies of enemies and criminals to be captured as a Greraver’s meal.

The aroma of spices mixed with flower starch essence came from the bathroom when Greraver entered. They filled a large tub of giant logs with water, flower petals, and leaves. They used various fragrances as water mixtures to remove the rancid scent of blood stuck to Greraver’s body.

He took off all his clothes. Just threw it into the corner of the bathroom. Then he entranced the bath. He buried his body until it was entirely below the water’s surface. After a few moments, and came back out with a face full of sadness.

“When will the curse end? Will this wendigo’s soul be inside me forever? Controlling my life, making me a slave.” Greraver said to himself.

An hour later, he and Dielh sat in front of a fireplace. Greraver’s face looked desperate. No one would have guessed that the handsome man with dark hair had previously turned into a cruel and terrifying monster. A flash of light from the fireplace made Greraver’s face form a silhouette that emphasized his prominent nose, thick eyebrows, and beautiful lips.

Dielh looked at Greraver. His friend struggled with grief and tears, making him blame himself. A situation always avoided every time after Greraver finished his meal. He didn’t have words to comfort Greraver because of all the circumstances he had to go through.

“No need to feel guilty. All is not your wish.” Dielh kept trying to comfort Greraver.

“I’m tired of my situation. I want to be free and be part of the Kingdom. Supposedly, at my age, I was already preparing to take over the royal throne.”

Dielh looked at Greraver with a deep look. The truth was sad. As much as he tried to comfort Greraver, it couldn’t change things. The only son of King Zulniex, who turned into a monster.

“I hate myself! My life is useless!” Greraver felt frustrated. He threw a glass that was on the table against the wall. In the next second, the sound of the impact of the glass object echoed through the room.

Instantly, the glass shattered into small fragments. It threw the shattered glass into every corner of the room. Resentment and anger filled Greraver’s heart. Fifteen years in the castle tower made it almost meaningless. He felt he was not the Crown Prince. He was like a prisoner who couldn’t see the world.

“Wow! Wow! Wow! Easy, man! Not now. I don’t want to be your meal!” Dielh saw Greraver’s deep blue eyes turn dark black. An early sign that the Monster soon took possession of his body.

Grarever stared at Dielh. Even in the feeling of fear, Dielh still gave a funny smile. A stiff smile that was too far-fetched to look strange and disgusting to Greraver. His best friend’s stupid face was enough to make Greraver a little calmer. His eyes returned blue and shaded. Tapering and dense feathers were framing the beautiful eyes of the Greraver.

Greraver was the perfect candidate for King; if only he was an ordinary man. He was very handsome, but his body was a bit stocky because Greraver didn’t have any other meaningful activities at the top of that tower. The only action that drained energy was eating. Instead, it was tearing apart lifeless bodies to become food.

“I want to get out! I want to see the world! To be a prince, proud of and protect my people.”

“That’s the reason the King locked you in this place. To protect the government and the people of the Vain Dominion Kingdom. We never know when that Monster will get to you. If it happens while you’re with someone else, it’ll end their life.”

“It’s that bad! That’s how bad I am!” Prince Greraver covered his head with both palms. His face became complicated and full of frustration.

“Take it easy, Prince. The curse will definitely end.”

“When?! It’s been fifteen years! During that time, I never even set foot on the ground!” Greraver shouted as he stared at Dielh. His eyes depict anger, hatred, and frustration.

His best friend grinned and showed a row of teeth on his face that looked confused. Of course, Dielh had no answer to Greraver’s question. But his heart was so sorry to see his friend suffering.

“If only my stupid father hadn’t made a mistake, my life would have been fine.” Greraver cursed.

“Hmm ... maybe. But, according to my father, the King is innocent. He wasn’t the one who seduced that woman until her father cursed you.”

“If my father was innocent, the curse wouldn’t work! Look, I’m a Wendigo now! All because of my father’s depraved deeds!”

“My father said that the woman had ambitions for your father. She is the daughter of a witch leader.”

“I don’t know what my dad was thinking at the time. He doesn’t even remember if my mother was pregnant with me. He who is guilty has deprived the witch’s daughter of her virginity. I don’t know why the witch made me a target.”

Dielh frowned. For fifteen years inside the castle tower, Dielh did not have any knowledge. He didn’t know that out there, humans behave so cruelly. They could do anything to achieve the goal. Wealth and power had made people blind. Dielh, with all his pure thoughts, has no knowledge of it.

“Of course, the target of the curse is not you. The witch wants to destroy King Zulniex by destroying his sole heir. Keep you and King Zulniex alive in frustration.”

“Not fair! This is so unfair! Everyone suffered because of the curse. My King, my Kingdom, my people, and my mother. What kind of Kingdom has no heir in the future?!”

“You are his heir, Prince,” said Dielh.

“And you may have forgotten I’m a Wendigo. I will be an enemy to my Kingdom and people.”

Dielh shrugged, “Alright, we both don’t know the truth. It is useless to blame what has already happened. Don’t worry. I’ll always be here for you. Accompany you, give you food, and listen to all your complaints. Perhaps I will also be single with you forever.” Dielh rolled his eyeballs.

Suddenly Greraver was silent. He looked at Dielh as his friend was babbling. An idea appeared in his head. A statement that would change the course of his life.

“You’re my best friend?” Greraver asked. He asked for the firmness of the statement from Dielh.

“As I remember. “Dielh replied with a funny face.

“Take me out of this castle tower!”

“What?!”

“Take Me Out, Dielh!” Greraver said with a serious face. He shifted his face right in front of Dielh’s face.

“Huh?! B-but ... but ... the King and my father would be happy to kill me if I did that.”

“This is the Order Of The Prince of Vain Dominion Kingdom. No one can punish you for a prince’s order.”

Dielh’s usual funny face was suddenly stiff. Take away the Wendigo Prince? It means Dielh was ready to die. He could die from the King’s punishment or even at the Greraver’s hand.

“What are you going to do out there?” Dielh asked.

Greraver walked closer to the open window of the castle tower. From the top of the height, he could see the entire territory of his Kingdom. A view of the Kingdom with mesmerizing seas framed by dense forests and mountain ranges. He was the Crown Prince of this Kingdom, the future ruler. His heart churned, his mind screamed, his soul rumbled, Greraver’s breath turned short, and his heart beat faster.

“I will find a way to defeat this curse. No one would do that but myself.” Greraver said, looking straight ahead.

Greraver’s blue eyes looked at the blue sky. He decided to the choice to get freedom or die!

“How? The King is still trying to help you. Can you be a little more patient?” Dielh tried to stop him.

“Fifteen years is too long. I’ll help myself.”

Dielh stood up with a severe face after hearing Greraver’s determination. He looked very different from the usual Dielh. All this time, he always tried to be a funny man to accompany his best friend’s loneliness. One of his duty to make the Prince happy, as the King said.

If only Dielh could tell Greraver the truth, he would feel the same sadness every day. Sometimes, Dielh imagined Greraver could be with him on the battlefield. They could practice sword techniques. In the evening, they would discuss devising a war strategy.

A wish that couldn’t fully fill because of the Prince's sad and frightening circumstances. Now, however, he could realize that dream outside the palace. They would hunt together in the forest!

“Get ready! I’ll take you out of the palace tonight.”

Greraver turned to Dielh. Their eyes met. It was a look full of ambition. Both were determined to resolve Greraver’s plight today as well!
