Finally, we meet what's next 4

Adline point of view

The first thing I heard was, "Wake up, wake up, wake up and run," and a shock sensation ran through my body, which lifted me off the ground instantly, I was totally unable to control my body, without getting any chance to look around to understand what was going on around me. I started to run ahead without looking back, the fear was filling my brain, why I was afraid, I didn't know now, and the only signal my brain was sending to my body was to run, just run, running from what I didn't know, or why I was running or why I was scared.

All this started two days ago, my supervisor told me "Congratulations, Adlian, you have been promoted to a monitor, and you are the youngest member of our organization, who has been promoted this fast, and that is because of your hard work and your dedication." I was confused, surprised, and shockedat the same time and I was unableto say anythin, smiling at my face thoughi don't know why he said "You will hand over your terminal now, then come to my office, and I will brief you about your assignment". I don't even remember clearly when and how I handed over my terminal, I went straight to his office as he asked me.

I reached the supervisor's office while I was dancing on the clouds from the happiness. I never thought I would be that lucky to get promoted within a month, I didn't suspect anything. When I look back at it, I wonder how naive I was. Though I was not that experienced in life and was just a kid, I still lived a life full of misery, so how would anyone be that trusting? Anyway, what happened happened and I can't control it anymore, so let me just survive this mission. When I knocked on the door and heard his voice asking me to enter, when I came in the room, he pointed to the chair opposite his and I sat on it, and he started explaining.

"You are lucky enough to be promoted and at the same time chosen to take part in the mission," he stopped talking and just looked at me like he was expecting me to say something, the only thing I could do was to nod my head, apparently he was satisfied with that, he then continued while smiling, "This is a mission that came straight from the top, if you successfully complete it then you get promoted once more." Still smiling and checking my response, he took a tablet from his desk, handed it to me, and said, "All the information about the mission is only on this tablet, there is no other copy anywhere else." I took the tablet from him, and before I turned it on, he said, "You don't have to read it or anything; it will be transferred to your wrist communicator."

I looked at my wrist when he said that. The communicator I was wearing was an old model that you couldn't d******d anything to. I didn't know how to tell him that, but it seems like he was reading my mind when he said, "Don't worry, you will be issued a new communicator with the latest updates, but we still don't want you to fail the mission; it's important for all of us." I nodded again, but this time I added, "Thanks, I promise I will not disappoint you." He nodded again, still smiling as an approval, and said, "Good, I trust you're up to the task, otherwise, I wouldn't have recommended you for this important task."

"Now let me explain to you what your mission is. Simply put, it's a monitoring task. You don't have to do anything at all; you just monitor. "That's all you have to do. Do you think you're able to do that?" I didn't have to think about anything; I simply said, "Yes, sir, I can do that." He leaned back in his chair and said, "I thought so, now all that remains is to undergo some physical checkups, "Collect your new communicator and the supplies needed for your mission, then you can take the rest of the day off and enjoy it with your sister. It may be a while until you get back, and your mission starts tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Be ready at the front gate; that is all you can leave now."

For some reason, my memory is a little bit fuzzy. I remember going to a facility for my checkup, and I remember going back to my house, but what was between those two things is totally unclear. I didn't give it much thought though, because I was overjoyed by the promotion and the new mission that I have been given, so I didn't care about anything else at all, I slept that night with happiness and dreams of a bright future, and with a bright smile I woke up the second day. Little did I know that would be the last happy night for me, though frankly speaking, even if I had known what was going to happen, I doubt that I would have refused to do it.

After I reported at the front gate at the specified time, I found a gentleman with an official suite already waiting for me. He looked at his watch and said, "Good, you are on time, the gate will open in 1 minute, and you will arrive at your destination at the same time." We are aware that this is your first time traveling this way or traveling outside of this city, and we just want you to relax and just pass through the gate. As soon as you arrive, your mission starts immediately. We will not be able to intervene with you or assist you in any way; all we can do is send you information and instructions. He paused for a second, then asked me, "Any questions?"

I shook my head, then he sighed and said, "We wish you good luck; do your best, and this is some advice from me personally." He paused once more and said, "No one can do anything by himself, so choose carefully whom you should trust." At that moment, out of nowhere, a transparent, gate-shaped thing appeared. The gentleman pointed at it, and I entered. I didn't have any option as to how to live my life anyway, so whatever happens will happen. I was apparently born in this life to survive, so I promised myself to survive whatever it takes and return to my little sister.
