The Lancaster family reclined at the table to have breakfast and pray to Buddha, their usual ritual. Evelyn fought hard to keep her eyes off Gary, who was seated at his usual spot, the corner of the dining room, where he would sit on a small seat to eat his meal.

“You know, Gary is a really good cook,” Evelyn said out loud. “He never fails to impress me. I’m thinking, instead of staying at home all day doing nothing, we could set up a business for him under our name so he can attract huge clients.”

Everyone stopped eating to look at Evelyn, whose face was more radiant than it had been for a long, long time. “I mean, we should open a restaurant and make him manager. He would be able to get himself busy and take care of his grandmother. With the recent $450 contract, we are attracting so many clients and partners. They would definitely want to try the Lancaster’s restaurant. Gary would be putting his skill to use.”

The dining was quiet. Even Gary had his food stuck halfway down his

And then he saw it. The yellow door. The one with faded, cracked musical notes, like time had tried to erase its melody but failed. His breath caught. He walked up, raised his hand to knock, then hesitated. His heart pounded, his thoughts spinning. What if he remembers me? What if he doesn’t? Before he could talk himself out of it, the door swung open. And there stood Uncle Kai—older, grayer, with laugh lines deeper than he remembered—but still him—still his uncle. “Ah, you made it,” Uncle Kai said with a proud grin. “I was just warming up my voice. Come on in, mystery boy.” Miles stepped inside the dim, cozy apartment. Posters of old rock bands lined the walls. A battered guitar leaned against the couch. The scent of soy, ginger, and something fried danced in the air. Uncle Kai turned around and opened the fridge. “You look like you haven’t eaten in days. Want rice or noodles?” Miles looked around, blinking. The place… the smell… the sound of a kettle on the stove… He kne

  • Chapter 150: A New Life

Miles was getting the hang of his new phone and the internet. He would scroll TikTok and watch what people termed as comedy and he would be disgusted. Back in his days, before he was captured, real comedy was when his uncle grabbed the remote as a microphone and told him and his parents all these really funny jokes. On TikTok, he only saw dumb content and would sometimes just toss his phone away or watch some Tian Lou music videos, his favorite singer, the famous guy he wanted to be like. He followed Tian Lou on TikTok and on XBook. He promised to attend Tian Lou’s concert someday, and now that he had so much money, he could even get to see and speak with the celebrity in person. Miles went on the internet to search for his mom. Her name… he had forgotten her name. Back then, he would only address her as mom as there was no need to know her official name. He was barely eight years old and. And so he just searched for his last name, Wangchun. “Why are there so many people on the

  • Chapter 149: Reminisce

“What did you just say?” Gary asked in bewilderment. “May I come in, Master?” she asked politely, and Gary gestured for her to walk in. “Hold on, are you eavesdropping? Are you listening to my conversations over the phone?” Gary asked her. She bowed slightly. “It would be considered treason, sir. However, I cannot help it as my senses are very sharp and I can hear sounds from very far away, we all can,” she replied. Gary sighed. He was no longer sure if the Model thing was a curse or a blessing. Since he came into the mansion the very first day, Mei Lin appeared to be a normal human lady—in fact, above average. She was way younger than her age, extremely beautiful, never got sick, and now he is finding out she has a sharper sense of hearing. “What do you mean I cannot win my grandfather? How can you be so sure that I will fail?” Gary asked. Mei Lin sighed and, for the second time since he set eyes on her, she let out a slight smile, then she walked towards the window where Gar

  • Chapter 148: Regret Or Determination?

Minutes turned into hours and hours into days. Gary was boiling, seething with rage. His eyes had been flushed with so many liters of tears running down his cheeks. He had lost it. He had lost his grandmother. He was too late. Now, they had turned her to a bot. His grandpa had turned her into a bot. Gary laid down on his bed, thoughts going in and out of his head. It had been over 5 days since he stepped foot into this city. And he had spent all that time thinking about exerting revenge on his grandfather. He had not heard a word from anyone. He had not stepped out of his room in days. He so badly wanted to speak with someone, anyone. To vent his rage, combat his emotions. But the only person who could listen and understand, that person was no more. Evelyn was in another world, another dimension -per se. Till now, she was not even aware of his true identity. How would she react when she found out? Was she alright? He pulled out his phone and called Serena after a long time. T

Jia stared at the card like it was made of fire. She was confused, scared, and worried. As if under a spell, Yinchen moved his body towards her and fell to her feet. “Jia, I know I was a terrible boss. I did bad things. But please, don’t let them leave me this way. No matter what I did, I was still your boss. I paid your salary promptly, and I never abused you, did I?” Jia was silent. She had a really soft heart and was compassionate to people. But she needed to know when to straighten and toughen up. “But you just did, boss. And for the record, I have not been paid for the last two weeks.” Turning to Miles, she pleaded. “Sir, please, forgive him. I beg of you. Allow him to take a position, even if it’s a small one. He.. he had families to feed.” Miles ran a hand across his hair. “Well, I’ll be upstairs. I’ve had a long day and need to rest. Witz Malton is all yours. Do as you wish and make me proud.” As Miles left, Jia’s colleagues began to see her differently. Just like tha

Whispers filled the room. Despite Lin Tao having instructed everyone to return to their businesses, they could not help but be enthralled by the drama unfolding before their very eyes. Miles sighed. “I thought I warned you guys to stay away from me. I accepted the card. Now you are tracking my every move?” he said, a bit pissed, but not angry. “Miles, none of the things I do is of my own will. I was given a direct order from Master Wang to ensure your safety at all times. Come on, Miles. He truly cares for you, even I don’t know why. Can’t you see it, sir?” Lin responded respectfully, as if he were standing before Gary himself. The whispers grew, and people pulled out their phones. It was a huge moment. “S… sir.. Lord Tao. Forgive me, but it appears you are mistaking that brat for someone else. Sir, that boy is a card thief. He… he stole that card. He is just a street thief. You can allow me to handle him, Lord Tao.” Lin Tao’s gaze cut through the room like a blade of ice, s
