I woke up the next morning feeling like my whole body had been crushed overnight. My head throbbed. My chest felt heavy.

The memory of last night—Linda, the man, the contract—was stuck in my mind like a thorn I could not pull out.

I still don't know where I went wrong in all of this or what I did to her to have deserved such a cruel fate.

Was it a crime to love?

I didn’t want to see anyone. I didn’t want to speak. I didn’t want to breathe in the same air as my wife or her family. But it was impossible.

This family didn’t give me a choice.

The door opened before I could even reach the kitchen. Linda’s mother was standing there. Her eyes were sharp, cold, like a hawk staring down its prey.

“Daniel,” she said sweetly, but I knew that sweetness was just a mask for venom. “The family wants to see you.”

At the mention of that word, my heart dropped.

I wanted to refuse. I wanted to stay in my room, to hide from them, to disappear. But I knew better. Refusing would only make things worse.

I followed her into the hall. The air was thick with tension. The rest of the family was there, seated around the breakfast table, and the moment I stepped in, every eye turned to me.

They didn’t look at me like a husband. They didn’t look at me like a man. They looked at me like I was a joke.

“Ah, Daniel,” Linda’s cousin said with a smirk. “You’re still alive, I see. I thought last night might have been the end of you.”

I clenched my fists at my sides. I wanted to say something. I wanted to fight back. But no words came. My throat felt blocked.

“You really are pathetic,” her younger brother added, laughing softly. “I don’t know why my sister ever even looked at you. You’re a fool.”

Even the servants in the house were watching, their faces full of pity and amusement.

I said nothing but then, I was about to take a seat when her father gave me a cold stern gaze which made me stand like a soldier.

My stomach twisted. My legs felt like they could give out at any second.

Linda sat there, perfectly composed, sipping her tea. Her lips curled into a small, cruel smile when she looked at me.

Then her mother spoke, and the room went quiet.

“Daniel,” she said, her voice cold and precise, “we need the R&B contract. You know the one I’m talking about. It’s multi-billion. The family wants it. If you can get it… you may stay. If you cannot… you will sign the contract and leave.”

I froze.

“Excuse me?” I said, my voice shaking.

“You heard me,” she said, tilting her head. “Either you get us the deal… or you are gone. Do you understand?”

I felt my knees go weak. My mind raced. There was no way. I couldn’t get the contract. Not without connections, not without skill, not without help. And now I was expected to perform the impossible, or… leave.

“Daniel,” Linda said softly, almost mocking, “don’t even think of asking for a cent before it’s done. Nothing will be yours. Not a dime. Do you understand?”

“Yes… yes, I understand,” I whispered.

Her mother waved her hand. “Good. Then get to it. Or sign the contract and go. It’s your choice.”

I wanted to argue. I wanted to say it wasn’t fair. I wanted to tell them I couldn’t do it. But I knew arguing would only make me look weaker. And they were already convinced I was weak.

I nodded, swallowing hard. I turned to leave, hoping to gather my thoughts, to figure out what I could do.

But Linda’s mother wasn’t finished.

“And Daniel…” she added, her eyes cold as ice. “If you fail, don’t bother coming back. We will not keep someone who cannot provide.”

I nodded again, my throat tight. I felt like I was walking through a nightmare, but it was real.

I stepped outside to clear my mind, and immediately the rain hit me. It was heavy, cold, relentless. The sky poured down on me, soaking my clothes, drenching me completely. I shivered, but I didn’t move. I just stood there, letting it pound on me, punishing me, cleansing me, maybe even reminding me of my worthlessness.

I had no umbrella. I had no jacket. Nothing. Just me, the rain, and my shame.

I thought about the banquet, about the laughter, about Linda. About how her lips had curled in amusement while I served the guests. About how her lover had smirked at me like I wasn’t even human.

I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream. But all I could do was stand there and shiver, feeling the cold seep into my bones.

The rain didn’t just soak my clothes. It soaked my pride, my spirit, my very being. I felt stripped of everything. The world seemed cruel, the family crueler, and I… I was nothing.

And yet, even in that cold, soaked despair, something flickered inside me. A thought. A tiny voice.

Maybe they are wrong. Maybe I am not worthless. Maybe there is more to me than they see.

I didn’t know what it was yet. I didn’t know how to prove it. But I knew… one day, I would.

Not tonight. Not now. Tonight, I was Daniel. Pathetic. Humiliated. Alone. Drenched. Worthless in the eyes of all.

And as the rain poured, I let it wash over me, letting it remind me… that tomorrow, maybe, the world would see a different Daniel.

  • DEAL WITH THE DEVIL

Janet’s head snapped toward me so fast that strands of hair fell across her face.“Deal?” she repeated, her voice low and dangerous. “You made a deal with him without even asking me?”I did not answer immediately.Because the truth was simple. If I started thinking too much, I would realize I had just shaken hands with the kind of man I was not supposed to trust.Almond smiled slowly and stretched out his hand. “Wise choice, boy.”I stared at his palm for a second before taking it.The moment our hands touched, something cold ran through me.Not fear.Warning.Laura looked up from the laptop and laughed softly. “Congratulations. We are officially working with snakes.”Janet folded her arms. “Speak for yourself.”Almond ignored the tension and turned toward Laura. “How long?”“Give me ten minutes.”“You have five.”Laura rolled her eyes and continued typing. The room returned to silence except for the rapid tapping of keys.I walked toward Janet. She stepped back.“You’re angry.”“I’m

  • DANIEL THE GREAT!

I looked at Almost and back at Laura. I was not really sure if telling them what I knew was the right thing to do. "How did you know I was here?" I asked, staring at him."This house has a tracer. The moment you got here, I was alerted." Almost replied Janet stared at Laura, who seems to be more interested in me. "When did you find out your blood heals?" she asked I didn't feel like answering her question. Laura had betrayed my trust in her, so talking to her felt awkward. "Why do you care?" Janet answered back immediately with a feisty tone. "Don't you think we are allies for a second?" Laura laughed. "You really think a man like Daniel is meant for someone like you?" Laura said back. The room felt tense. "He is my husband. We are bound legally," Janet fired back. I immediately walked into the midst of them. "Back off, Laura. The only reason you are here is because I have no other place to crash. What we have going on is a simple understanding. You scratch our backs, and we

  • THE BLOOD SAGA

Almond’s question hung in the air like a blade suspended by a thread. “And whose blood is this?” For a split second, no one moved. Janet reacted first. She let out a sharp breath, too quick, too forced, and stepped forward before I could say anything. “It’s nothing,” she said, waving her hand dismissively. “I cut myself earlier. Broken glass.” Almond didn’t look convinced. His eyes dropped back to the floor, tracing the scattered crimson droplets. Then slowly, deliberately, he crouched down. Two fingers brushed against the stain, rubbing it thoughtfully. I felt my pulse spike. Too much blood. Way too much for a “small cut.” “Broken glass?” he repeated quietly. Janet crossed her arms, forcing a shrug. “Yeah. From the kitchen. I cleaned most of it already.” “Most,” Almond echoed. Laura shifted near the doorway, her gaze flicking between all of us. She wasn’t speaking, but she was watching. I stepped forward, inserting myself between Almond and the rest of the

  • JANET SCARED

Janet and I froze where we stood, our eyes fixed on the aquarium. The little golden fish darted wildly through the water as if nothing had happened. It swam in frantic circles, bumping into the glass before suddenly going still near the bottom. Its tiny body twitched once... then it slowly rose again and glided upward.Alive.Truly alive.Janet turned to me so sharply the chair behind her nearly tipped over."What the hell are you?" she whispered.I wish I had an answer. My palm still bled from the cut. Blood dripped onto the floor in soft red taps. Yet I barely felt the pain anymore. The wound was already closing. Flesh knitting itself together before our eyes.Janet stumbled backward."No..." she muttered. "No, no, no..."She grabbed my wrist and raised my hand to the light. The cut that had been deep enough to expose skin beneath was now nothing more than a thin pink line. Her fingers trembled."You heal too?""I don't know.""You brought me back. "You brought a fish back. And now

  • A HEALING BLOOD

Things haven't been the same ever since I woke up back to life. I could tell Janet was going to figure it out anytime soon, but then, I have to understand what I am. The only way to do that was the book. I have to get it back from Dac. I had to find it, but I didn't risk letting him know I was alive. I knew that by now. Janet, on the other hand, was freaking out. She walked into my room, her body inclining against the door. "What is your plan, Dan? We can stay in hiding. "This is now two weeks of silence and doing nothing," she said with brows arched. I raised my head slowly and stared at her. "You need to understand that Dac is after me. I don't think I would be safe anymore than I am right now, Janet. I need to figure out what I really am." Janet smiled, her feet echoing as she walked closer towards me. "You are not just anyone, Dan. You are from a powerful bloodline, and you need to stop treating yourself like an imposter. Dac and Almond should be scared of you and not the o

  • The trap

Gerald’s breath hitched the moment the gun touched the polished surface of the table. The soft click of metal against marble sounded louder than it should have—like a final verdict. No one moved. No one dared to.Linda’s fingers tightened around her mother’s arm until her knuckles turned white. Penelope winced slightly but didn’t pull away. Her eyes were fixed on the weapon, then slowly lifted to Dac’s face—searching, pleading, trying to find the man she once believed her daughter had married. The man who single-handedly helped when Daniel was breathing down on their neck real hard. But the man standing before them now… felt like a stranger.Dac leaned back slightly, his expression calm, almost amused, as though he were watching a performance instead of orchestrating one.“Well?” he said, his voice smooth. “I believe it’s your turn to explain, Gerald.”Gerald swallowed hard. His mind raced, scrambling for something—anything—that could pull them out of this situation without bloodshe
