Darrus and Dominic's faces hardened, revealing their displeasure as their plans began to unravel.

However, Darrus remained unmoved by Mr. Avo's warnings.

With a tone full of disdain, he scoffed.

"Max is nothing but an orphan with no value," Darrus sneered.

"He has no talent, no education, and has only made it this far because of my generosity.”

“Meanwhile Dominic," he continued, glancing at Dominic, who sat confidently, "is a top graduate from the Cadenza Leadership Institute."

"Dominic has extraordinary skills, a strong family background, and an extensive network of connections."

"Comparing Max to Dominic? It’s like comparing a filthy maggot to a soaring eagle. They’re not even on the same level," Darrus concluded.

Mr. Avo sneered, his gaze sharp with contempt.

Crossing his arms, he responded in a cold ironic voice,

"Oh, is that so? If Dominic is so brilliant, why hasn’t the capital’s GDP surpassed Morow State yet?"

Mr. Avo’s words struck like a whip, darkening Darrus and Dominic’s expressions even further.

Dominic tried to mask his discomfort with a thin smile, but it was evident that Mr. Avo’s statement had wounded his pride.

Mr. Avo stepped forward, pointing directly at the table as if issuing a challenge.

"Managing Morow State with or without Max are two entirely different things.”

“Max can leave Morow State anytime, and he’ll still be fine."

"But without Max? Morow State would collapse into chaos!"

Mr. Avo continued.

Darrus slammed his hand on the table in a fit of rage, his voice echoing through the room.

"Mr. Avo! Don’t forget your place! I am the Governor! How dare you speak to me like this?"

His face turned red, his gaze full of threat.

Mr. Avo stood firm, showing no trace of fear.

"Don’t think your position will silence me! I’m merely stating the truth."

"If you want Morow State to fall apart, go ahead with your foolish plans!"

With those words, Mr. Avo turned and marched out of the room with determined steps, followed by Manager Nelson, who appeared anxious.

Inside the room, the atmosphere remained tense.

Yet, Darrus and Seraphina were stubborn, refusing to believe that Morow State would fail without Max.

"He’s just exaggerating," Darrus muttered, attempting to ease the tension.

Dominic stepped forward, his smile brimming with confidence.

"Morow State doesn’t need Max. I’ll prove that I’m more than capable of replacing him."

"Once I take over and deliver better results, no one will dare question my decisions."

Hearing Dominic’s words, Darrus smiled with satisfaction.

"That’s what I want to hear. I look forward to that day, Dominic."

"With your expertise and connections, we’ll elevate Morow State to greater heights," Darrus added.

Seraphina, standing beside Dominic, looked at him with admiration and deep affection.

To her, Dominic was a strong, visionary leader.

She could hardly wait for the moment when Dominic would prove himself as the best successor, silencing everyone with his accomplishments.

Later that evening, Chief Raul finally escorted Max to the foothills of Mount Arleth, the area closest to the border and usually the most tumultuous.

In this region, battles between Morow State and external forces were almost unavoidable each night.

The sound of intense gunfire often filled the air.

And even though the residents at the mountain’s base knew Max was watching over the border, they remained restless with anxiety.

The constant chaos beyond the border disrupted their sleep, leaving them uneasy every night.

When they arrived, Chief Raul stepped out of the car and opened the door for Max.

Chief Raul had brought along several subordinates to accompany Max, all of them remaining vigilant, keeping a close watch on their surroundings.

They were prepared for anything, aware of how dangerous this area could be after dark.

But as soon as they stepped out of the car, they immediately sensed something unusual.

The town at the mountain’s base, typically rife with tension and unease, was unusually calm and peaceful that evening.

There was no sound of gunfire, no signs of danger-a stark contrast to the battles that usually raged beyond the border.

Chief Raul paused for a moment, trying to process the situation.

If Mr. Avo were there, he would undoubtedly know the reason for this calm-news of Max’s arrival had already spread, instilling fear in external forces.

They had chosen to retreat, too afraid to approach the border.

However, Mr. Avo was absent, and Chief Raul’s understanding of the situation was limited.

Chief Raul and his subordinates exchanged glances, confusion evident on their faces.

"Why is it so quiet tonight?"

One subordinate asked, his voice filled with wonder.

"There’s usually constant gunfire beyond the border."

"This… this isn’t normal," another subordinate added. h

His eyes scanning the surroundings, ensuring nothing suspicious was amiss.

"It’s like… like no one dares to make a move!"

With his chest trembling with respect, Chief Furod called his team through the communicator. “All units, pull back from the location now. And make sure you are ready for a big dinner tonight. That is a direct order from Mr. Max.”Then he added the part about Max treating them to good food for an entire week.Hearing Chief Furod’s command through the walkie-talkie, two of his subordinates who were guarding the front door of the spa looked at each other. They could still hear the heavy voice of Chief Furod, trembling with respect, as he said, “Yes, Mr. Max! Thank you very much for your generosity.”The atmosphere that had been ordinary suddenly turned quiet. One of them, the man who had looked down on Max earlier, was shocked. “Did you hear that?” he whispered in disbelief. “He’s treating us to good food for a whole week?”His partner, a chubby man with narrow eyes, gaped in amazement. “And not just us, the whole team too! Damn, who’s that generous just because we stayed on duty for

Chief Furod straightened his posture and said respectfully, “Allow me to introduce myself, Mr. Max. I am Furod, Chief of Police of Vesula.” His voice was firm, but the nervous tone could not be hidden. Cold sweat trickled down his temple even though the morning air was cool.Max looked at him without expression for several seconds. Then he turned to Aurora beside him. “Babe, go ahead to the spa restaurant. I will follow soon.”Aurora nodded gently, though she seemed a little hesitant to leave them. “Alright,” she said softly. She walked toward the corridor with light steps, leaving a faint fragrance of flowers in the air. As soon as Aurora disappeared from sight, the lobby fell silent again. Only the soft hum of the air conditioner and the slow footsteps of spa staff could be heard in the background.Max looked straight at Chief Furod. “Now, tell me,” he said coldly. “What made you come here?”Furod swallowed hard. He had faced many generals, nobles, even the most cunning politic

Meanwhile, inside the Vesula Serenity Spa suite, the morning sun began to filter through the soft white curtains. Golden light filled the room, casting a warm reflection on the marble walls and the slightly fogged glass.Max had been awake since dawn, sitting on the long sofa with his back straight, his eyes fixed on the tablet in his hands. He did not sleep on the bed, not because he could not, but because he was not ready. Even though Aurora was now his legal wife, their marriage had happened too suddenly, as quick as a decision made in war. There was still an awkwardness between them, two people brought together by fate, not by a love that had grown naturally.Aurora slowly woke up, her eyes still heavy with sleep. She turned to Max, who was sitting not far away, and stared blankly for a moment before sitting up on the edge of the bed. “Have you been awake for long?” she asked softly, her voice hoarse from sleep.“Yes,” Max replied briefly, his voice deep and calm. He turned o

Until dawn, Chief Furod had not moved an inch from his place. The lights in the spa lobby were dimmed, leaving only the soft glow of hanging lanterns that swayed gently with the air conditioning. The faint scent of lavender lingered in the air, mixed with the cold aroma of coffee in Furod’s hand—it was his fourth cup since the previous night.Several times, the spa attendants approached him politely. “Chief, we can prepare a guest room for you to rest for a while. We promise, as soon as Mr. Max comes out, we will call you immediately.”But Furod only shook his head, his voice low but firm. “No need. I will wait here,” he said.Different attendants came and offered the same thing, yet his answer never changed. He remained seated on the long bench in front of the reception desk, a position that allowed him to see anyone exiting the spa hallway. Sometimes he stood up quickly whenever he heard footsteps coming from inside, hoping it was Max. But every time it turned out to be a staf

Meanwhile, somewhere else… Chief Furod walked quickly through the gleaming white marble hallway, his breathing slightly heavy from rushing. His neatly pressed uniform contrasted sharply with the tense expression on his face. In his left hand, a digital tablet displayed streams of news about the Max Corp scandal, which had spread across Vesula within hours like fire sweeping through dry grass. When he arrived at Vesula Serenity Spa, where Max and Aurora were resting, Furod went straight to the reception desk. “I am Chief Furod, Vesula Police Department. I need to meet Mr. Max right now,” he said firmly, his voice respectful but authoritative. The young receptionist flinched slightly, then bowed politely. “I am sorry, Chief, but Mr. Max has given instructions not to be disturbed during his session. He said he wishes to enjoy a quiet time with his wife.” Furod fell silent. He could have forced his way in—after all, as the highest-ranking police officer in Vesula, he had the a

The voice on the other end sounded calm. Too calm. “Frans,” Max said softly. “Mr. Max,” Frans straightened his back as if standing before a general. “The situation is terrible. The line of applicants is gone, and several employees have run away. The news is spreading too fast. If we don’t act now—” “Do not disturb my honeymoon, Frans.” Max’s tone remained steady, without the slightest hint of stress. Frans froze. He closed his eyes, trying to process those words. Their company was being hit by the wildest rumor in its history, and yet Max could sound this calm? Deep inside, he wanted to scream—how could Max be so relaxed right now? But he did not dare to say a word. After all, Max was not an ordinary man. He is the national hero. “Sir…” Frans spoke carefully, “I only meant—” “Frans.” Max interrupted gently, but firmly. “When something you did not do falls upon you, do not panic. Silence and calmness are the two strongest shields before taking action.” Frans bowed his hea
