Chapter 5
Nicholas Bellingham was stunned, his chest tight with disbelief as the weight of the situation crashed down on him. His hands trembled as he stared at Fiona and the supervisor, bitterness cloudng his expression. Desperation clawed at his throat as he turned to the middle-aged woman, his voice raw with pleading. “Mrs. Sampson, please—you have to listen to me. None of this is true! I was set up!” He swallowed hard, his words trembling. “I didn’t do any of this… I can’t lose this job. It’s everything to me.” His voice cracked as he shot a furious glance at Fiona. “She’s lying because I threatened to expose her! You have to believe me—” Mrs. Sampson cut him off with a sharp wave of her hand, her face cold and unyielding. “Enough, Mr. Bellingham. The evidence speaks for itself. I won’t entertain excuses.” Nicholas’s knees hit the floor with a thud, his pride shattered. His hands clenched into fists as he fought back the sting of tears. “Please… just one more chance. I’m begging you. Without this job, I have nothing left.” Nicholas’s pleas fell on deaf ears. Each word only seemed to harden Mrs. Sampson’ resolve. Losing this job would ruin him—destroy everything he had worked for. Her face twisted in disgust as she glared down at him. “I will never allow a man who preys on women to remain in this company,” she declared, her voice sharp with self-righteous fury. “Your disgusting behavior is a stain on this company. You would be a scapegoat to others. Staying here in the company might affect our workers.” Before Nicholas could protest further, she snatched up her phone and barked orders into it. “Hey! Within two minutes, I need you guys in the management room. Is that clear?” Her voice laced with authority her contorted in anger. Nicholas felt all hope are lost. He glanced at the two devils before him. He gnashed his teeth angrily. “You are going to regret this, Fiona! I promise you both! You shall suffer!" He swore painfully, even though he had no way to get his revenge. Fiona stared at him and smirked maliciously. With the fake tears on her face, she cried more. “What? You bastard? You still have the effrontery to threaten me in front of the management! What gall?” She sneered disparagingly, “ You are lucky I didn't inform the Police if not, you would have be wearing the orange uniform by now, you monster?" She screamed and pretended to tear up. Nicholas nodded in shame and embarrassment, he never expected his girlfriend to be this cunny and heartless. He regretted the day he met her. Nicholas’s face was red like a hot flame, he pointed his index finger at her. “You filthy bitch! You're happy, right? But not to worry, I'm going to repay the pain you caused me in twenty folds!" He yelled, his voice dripping with hurt and rage. It wasn't up to two minutes, the door burst open, and security guards trooped into the room. “That is him! Hold him up!” Fiona pointed at him. Nicholas struggled against their grip, his voice breaking. “Mrs. Sampson, please! You have to believe me, I'm being blackmailed! This job—it’s all I have left! Give me a second chance” She didn’t even look at him. With a dismissive wave of her hand, she sneered, “Get this pathetic fool out of my sight. Men like him don’t deserve a second chance.” When Nicholas resisted, the guards didn’t hesitate. Their batons came down hard —thudding against his back, his ribs, until his cries of protest turned to gasps of pain. “Are you going to cooperate with us? Would you like to be beaten up?" One of the guards growled. “Please… I’ll take any punishment—just don’t fire me!” His voice was ragged, tears streaming down his face as they dragged him toward the door. “I have people depending on me… without this job, I’m finished!” But no one listened. His sobs echoed through the office as the guards hauled him away, his dignity shattered, his body affiliated with pains. The office air hung thick with cruelty as Nicholas's desperate pleas were swallowed by the indifference of his former colleagues. Not a single face showed compassion - instead, they watched with smirks twisting their lips, eyes glittering with malicious amusement. The room erupted in cruel laughter, the sound bouncing off the walls like thrown stones. Every worker in the company now hurled vile insults his way, their voices dripping with contempt as they branded him with every degrading name they could conjure. "Disgusting." "I always knew he was a creep." "Serves him right." The laughter was the worst. It cut deeper than the batons. Meanwhile, as the security guards bundled Nicholas out of the room, the atmosphere shifted instantly. The supervisor, his face transforming from stern authority to groveling sycophancy - practically tripped over himself rushing to Mrs. Sampson' side. "Mrs. Sampson!" he gushed, his voice trembling with insincere gratitude. "I...I don't know how to thank you enough!" His hands fluttered nervously as he spoke. "Without your intervention today—" He swallowed hard, the Adam's apple in his throat bobbing visibly. Turning to Fiona, his smile became even more unctuous. "We could have lost everything! Our jobs, our reputations —.everything!" Mrs. Sampson' lips curled in a sneer. "Don't mistake this for loyalty," she spat, her voice like a razor drawn across skin. "If not for the substantial amount of money you shoved into my account, I wouldn't have dirtied my hands with your mess." She leaned closer to him, her expression deadly and serious. Mrs. Sampson sneered ingratiatingly. "Let me be crystal clear: if anything like this happens again, you'll drown in your own filth. Don't ever call for my assistance! Understood?" The supervisor paled but forced a chuckle. "Of course! It won’t happen again." Fiona stepped forward, her sickly-sweet smile, she uttered, "We’re truly grateful, Mrs Sampson. Nicholas was becoming a thorn in our flesh. ." Mrs. Sampson ignored her, her face flushed in rage. "I don't give a fuçk about you say! Just remember, you both have a foavour to reciprocate!” With that final threat hanging in the air like a sharp blade, she snatched her designer handbag from the desk and waltzed out of the room. The supervisor remained frozen for a long moment before finally exhaling - a shaky, uneven sound that betrayed his crumbling composure. "Jeez." he muttered, running trembling fingers through his hair. Turning to Fiona, he attempted a laugh that came out more like a wheeze. "That...that bastard almost ruined us, Fiona. Can you imagine?" His chuckle was hollow, the sound of a man trying desperately to convince himself he'd won. Fiona offered a tight smile in return, but her eyes kept darting toward the exit where Nicholas had been dragged out. Her fingers worried at the hem of her blouse, twisting the fabric nervously. Although, she never care about him but trace of guilt was all over her face. The supervisor didn't seem to notice - he was too busy mopping the sweat from his brow with an already-damp handkerchief Clearing the guilt off her, Fiona smirked viciously, “I really thank my stars for having an intelligent man. You really planned everything perfectly.” Fiona showered praises towards her Supervisor and that got him flattered. He chuckled, “I'm really intelligent!” His expression changed drastically to that of seriousness, “Do you probably know the reason why Nicholas was shouting that he couldn't lose his job? There must be a reason he had said that, right?” He questioned, demanding for an answer. Fiona took in a deep breath, and began to explain to him. “Nicholas really has a sick sister, and with the job, he used his salaries to pay up for the weekly medical drugs, and the hospital bills! Definitely, losing his job isn't something good as he needed the money.” On the other hand, Nicholas Bellingham was kicked out of the company. He was sobbing profusely as he roamed down the street with a heavy heart. Today was one of the bitter days he had ever experienced in his lifetime. A heartbreak from whom he had trusted most in his life, and a termination from the company. Still having a thought of this, the blaring sound coming from his phone was heard. He brought it out and Nicholas realized it was the hospital on the line. The moment he swiped up the green button, an angry voice was heard from the phone. “Mr. Nicholas Bellingham, we are hereby warning you to pay for your sister's medical bills today, Otherwise, the hospital will terminate your sister's medical bills and throw her out of the building.” The angry voice of the doctor was heard. Nicholas responded quickly, “No, you don't have to do that! Definitely, I'm going to pay! Give me a little bit of time, I will be there very soon!” He responded and the call went limped instantly. A worried expression spread over his face instantly. Tomorrow was supposed to be his payday but because of his termination, he wouldn't be paid by the company tomorrow. In a haste, he ran towards the bank and hoped they could lend him some money
