Chapter 8 Awakener

As if knowing that Zane has finished using his new skills and prepared himself, the system asks if he would like to advance to the next floor.

Would he?

"No."

Zane expressed his refusal when the system asked if he would like to advance to the next floor.

Zane knows his own limits.

With the Algorithm changes from the Tower of Magic, acting carelessly would be a pain to himself.

Zane understands that there is no easy way to get success.

However, a magician like himself would be useless if he didn't have mana.

In the Tower of Magic, indeed every magician has the right to refill their mana with mana potions. However, Zane did not do that.

He just didn't want to get it instantly.

The voice came back into Zane's head.

[Will you leave this dungeon?]

{Save point available. Would you like to take it?]

Save Point is indeed a fairly important help.

Instead of having to start all over again, this feature is quite satisfying. Each high magician can save their performance and continue their adventure in the dungeon when they return to the Tower of Magic.

"I will leave this dungeon and I will take a save point here".

After exiting the cave, Zane's surroundings turned white again.

"See you next time, Asmo"

"Cancel Summons"

Asmodeus lowered his head before long his knight-form body became white light and just disappeared.

Cut, cut.

Boiling, boiling.

As Zane stepped into the familiar room, he heard sounds coming from the living room, the sounds of soup boiling, and some excellent cutting skills.

Zane opened his room door and went out to the living room.

"Son, you were home?"

"How long have you been home, Zane? I didn't hear a sound at all," his eldest brother, who had already sat down at the dining table, looked surprised. His gaze looks sharp.

Her mom and Lila who were preparing dinner turned around at the same time.

Zane nodded his head slightly and looked at the food set on the dining table. He was at a loss for words.

"Beef rib stew, seafood, and chicken soup... Why did both of you prepare this so much?"

Although their flat wasn't big, the dining table had a sumptuous feast that would make many feel envious. Just by looking at it, one could tell it was a feast that required a lot of preparations.

"My youngest son has recovered, so of course, we have to prepare this much."

Zane tries to change the subject. He didn't even try to answer the question from his eldest brother.

"Didn't all of you just come back from work?"

"It doesn't matter, bro. It's been a long time since we've had dinner together like this."

What Lila said was true. Lila and Glenn were too busy with city guards.

Zane checked the wall clock hung on one side of the living room. It had been well after 10 PM.

His mom, his brother, and his sister arrived back home together after work at around 9 PM.

If it were other families, Zane would be eating alone at this time. Nevertheless, it seemed that her mom and if Lila were at home, usually preparing dinner late into the night every day after work.

As soon as the food was done, Zane got his bowl of rice and sat down at the dining table. They turned on the digital radio and started their meal.

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of monsters that attacks the city. When comparing the first-time infected and mutants that attacked back the first time in 2030, in 2033, exactly 2 weeks ago it was discovered that the number has multiplied by twofold. The legion's new recruitment is needed.

As expected, the issues raised in the news recently were about infected, mutants and human new recruiters as new city guardians. Previously, Zane with an old soul was not interested in that. However, Arnold was different. He showed much interest in it.

"Aren't you fascinated by it?" Lila asked when she saw her brother's expression shining.

"What about?" Zane pretended to be focused on his meal and replied to Lila's question in a polite manner.

"Would you like to try it, Zane? Become an awakener like the two of us?" his eldest brother chimed in.

Zane tried not to attract too much attention. But it seems that Glenn and Lila know the answer from Zane.

"You all eat first. I don't want all of you to discuss awakeners at the dinner table"

—Meanwhile, the prices of energy sources and mana stones found in the danger zone continue to skyrocket due to their wide variety of uses. Even though some people mentioned the dangers of the danger zones, they still had a positive impact on our society…

Of course, the reality wasn't as hopeful as what was reported on the radio.

"It wasn't hoped, but more of desperation."

Humans have to survive mutants and infected humans, on the other hand, they have to fight hard to get new equipment or mana stones.

Knowing this fact, Zane could not accept the news that was being reported as a trivial story.

They ended their meal, and Zane pushed his mom into her room, saying that he would do the dishes.

Zane went back into his room after he finished doing the dishes.

"Creak—"

"Mom, I've finished doing the."

Zane's voice turned softer.

During that short time, Her mom fell asleep while lying against the wardrobe.

It seemed that she was quite exhausted, seeing that she might not have known how she fell asleep.

Zane looked quietly at the sleeping mom before spotting a folded blanket on the side and covering her with it.

Zane returns to the living room where Glenn and Lila are sharpening their weapons.

A chuckle came from Glenn suddenly.

"Can you use a skill, Zane?"

Zane is confused. At first, he didn't want to answer, but the honest answer just came out of his mouth.

"H-how did you know?"

Looking at his older brother's face, Zane was at a loss.

He didn't expect Glenn to know that Zane was an awakener.

"Brother Gleen can see the different auras of a non-awakener and an awakener. While in the tunnel your aura really shows, Zane"

This made his heart relieved.

Because he doesn't need to say it anymore to his brothers and sisters. But…

Zane's face looked confused when he saw his mother's face.

Zane knew that his mother didn't want her three children to become awakeners, especially his weakest son.

"Calm down, Zane. Leave mother to me"

Glenn was seen patting Zane's shoulder, trying to calm him down.

"However, this is not coercion for you"

Glenn seemed to be talking to Zane with his eyes.

"Being an awakener who protects humans from infected and mutants is not easy. From the start, this job risked lives, and it was very hard"

Lila seemed to speak her heart out.

Glenn whispered to Zane, "If you really want to try it…", "You can come to the Legion Hall tomorrow morning," Lila added.

Sure.

He would not waste his second chance.
