The airstrip burned behind him. Flames licked the fuselage of Aldrich's private jet. Bodies lay scattered across the tarmac. Dante moved through the chaos, his weapon still warm.
Naomi found him at the edge of the treeline. Her face was pale, streaked with smoke and sweat. "You killed him."
"Shot him through the chest." Dante's voice was flat. "He died before he hit the ground."
Naomi grabbed his arm. "Then it's over. We won."
Dante shook his head. "Aldrich was just the figurehead. Sasha is already moving. She has the files. The contacts. The money. She's already rebuilding."
Naomi's grip tightened. "Then we stop her before she gets started."
"We can't. She's too established. Too connected. Every move we make, she's already three steps ahead."
Naomi released his arm. "So what do we do?"
Dante was silent for a moment. "We go after her weaknesses. Her assets. Her people. We dismantle her support structure until she's alone."
Naomi nodded slowly. "And then?"
"Then we finish it."
They retreated into the woods. The drive back to the city was quiet. Dante's mind churned with possibilities. Sasha was a different enemy than Aldrich or Webb. She was smarter. More patient. More ruthless.
She'd been planning this for years.
They reached the motel just before dawn. Dante collapsed onto the bed, his body screaming for rest. But his mind wouldn't stop.
Naomi sat across from him. "What's our first move?"
"We need information. Sasha's operation has weak points. Everyone does." He sat up. "I need to talk to Viktor. He knows her better than anyone."
Viktor was waiting at the factory. His face was grim. "I heard about Aldrich. My sister is celebrating."
"Tell me about her operation," Dante said. "Everything. Her assets. Her contacts. Her weaknesses."
Viktor was silent for a long moment. Then he pulled out a folder. "I've been tracking her for months. She's been building a parallel network. People loyal to her, not to Aldrich. She's been preparing for this moment."
Dante took the folder. Opened it.
Names. Photos. Locations. A map of Sasha's entire operation.
"She's been busy," Dante said.
"She's been planning." Viktor's voice was hard. "She's always wanted control. She just needed the right moment."
Dante studied the folder. "Where is she now?"
"Her main base is a warehouse on the east side. She has a command center there. Secure. Heavily guarded."
Dante nodded. "Then that's where we start."
Viktor stepped forward. "I want in."
"You're her brother."
"Which is why I need to stop her." Viktor's eyes were cold. "She's gone too far. She needs to be stopped. And I'm the only one who knows how she thinks."
Dante studied him. The mercenary's expression was unreadable. But there was something in his eyes. Something like regret.
"Fine," Dante said. "You're in."
Naomi stepped forward. "So what's the plan?"
Dante looked at the folder. The map. The names.
"We hit her command center tonight," he said. "We take out her guards. We destroy her equipment. We send a message."
Viktor nodded. "I'll get my team ready."
"Just you," Dante said. "No team. We do this quiet. In and out."
Viktor's eyes narrowed. "You don't trust my men."
"I don't trust anyone." Dante met his gaze. "That's the only way I've survived this long."
Viktor hesitated. Then he nodded. "Fine. Just me."
The night deepened. Dante prepared his weapons. Checked his gear. Planned the route.
He'd done this a hundred times before. But this was different. This was personal.
Sasha had been playing him from the start. Using him. Manipulating him. She'd killed his family. Destroyed his life.
And now she was going to rebuild everything he'd destroyed.
He wasn't going to let that happen.
---
They approached the warehouse at midnight. Three figures in the shadows. Silent. Coordinated.
Viktor led the way, navigating the maze of containers. He knew every blind spot, every hidden entrance.
They reached the main building. Lights glowed from the windows. Dante counted four guards at the entrance. Two more on the roof.
Viktor raised his hand. "I'll handle the roof."
Dante nodded. "Naomi, you're on the entrance. I'll go inside."
Naomi's eyes widened. "Alone?"
"I'm faster alone." He checked his weapon. "If I'm not out in fifteen minutes, get out. Don't wait for me."
"Dante—"
"It's an order."
He moved toward the building before she could argue. The side entrance was unguarded. He slipped through.
The interior was a maze of offices and storage rooms. Dante moved through the corridors, checking corners. The place was bigger than it looked from outside.
He heard voices ahead. Muffled. A meeting.
Dante followed the sound. Found a door. Cracked it open.
Sasha was inside, surrounded by her lieutenants. A map was spread across the table. She was pointing to locations. Giving orders.
Dante listened. She was planning a series of operations. Hits on rival organizations. Consolidation of power. She was moving fast.
He stepped through the door. Weapon raised.
The room went silent.
Sasha looked up. Her expression shifted. Surprise. Then anger. Then calculation.
"Cross. I should have known you'd come."
"Did you think I'd let you rebuild?" Dante stepped closer. "You killed my family. You manipulated me. You used me to destroy everyone I loved."
Sasha smiled. "I used you because you were useful. And you'll keep being useful. Even now, you're here. Doing exactly what I expected."
Dante's grip tightened. "This ends now."
"Does it?" Sasha stepped away from the table. "You kill me, and someone else takes my place. The network is bigger than me. Bigger than Aldrich. Bigger than Kessler. You can't destroy it. You can only delay it."
"Then I'll delay it forever."
Sasha laughed. "You're a fool, Cross. A brilliant fool. But still a fool."
Dante's finger moved to the trigger.
Sasha held up her hand. "Before you shoot, consider this. I have files. Files on your parents. Files on the conspiracy that killed them. Files that will expose the people who really destroyed your family."
Dante hesitated. "What are you talking about?"
"The network didn't kill your parents, Cross. A faction within it did. A faction that still exists. And I know exactly who they are."
Dante's blood went cold. "You're lying."
"I'm telling the truth. For once." Sasha's eyes were steady. "Kill me, and you'll never know. You'll never get the closure you need."
Dante's hand shook. The rage was blinding. But the need for truth was stronger.
"Tell me," he said. "Tell me everything."
Sasha smiled. "First, we make a deal. You leave. You walk away. You never come back. And I give you the names."
Dante stared at her. The woman who'd destroyed his life. The woman who was offering him answers.
He wanted to shoot her. Wanted to end it.
But he needed to know. Needed to understand.
"Fine," he said. "You have your deal."
Sasha reached into her pocket. Pulled out a small drive. Tossed it to him.
"Everything you need is on there. Your parents' files. The faction that killed them. The names of everyone involved."
Dante caught the drive. Pocketed it.
"You'll leave now," Sasha said. "You'll forget about me. You'll forget about the network. You'll start a new life."
Dante's jaw tightened. "I'll walk away. But I'll never forget."
Sasha smiled. "That's good enough for me."
Dante turned and walked out of the room. The meeting was over.
Outside, the night was cold. Naomi was waiting.
"What happened?"
Dante held up the drive. "The truth. About my parents."
Naomi's eyes widened. "You made a deal."
"I made a deal." He walked toward the car. "Let's go."
They drove back to the motel. Viktor peeled off at the factory.
Dante sat in the dark room, staring at the drive. His hand hovered over the laptop.
He could open it. Find the truth. Finally understand.
But he was afraid. Afraid of what he'd find. Afraid of the pain it would bring.
Naomi sat beside him. "It's okay to be scared."
"I'm not scared." He plugged the drive in.
The files opened. Hundreds of them. Documents. Photographs. Communications.
Dante scrolled through them. His parents' faces stared back at him. His father's notes. His mother's testimony.
The truth was ugly. The faction within the network had killed them. Had arranged the accident. Had covered it up.
But there was more. Names. Lots of names.
Including one he recognized. A name from his past. Someone he'd trusted.
Dante's hand was steady as he typed. He sent the files to Naomi's computer.
"These are the names," he said. "Everyone involved."
Naomi studied the screen. Her face went pale. "This is huge. This is the entire conspiracy."
"Now we have them."
Naomi looked up. "What are you going to do?"
Dante closed the laptop. "I'm going to make them pay. Every single one."

I tried to make things right."Naomi approached. She knelt beside him. "They would be proud of you."Dante looked at her. "You think so?""I know

The Unlikely Alliance

The Shadow Council
The message appeared on Dante's phone at 3:17 AM."Your war is a distraction. The real enemy has always been above you. Meet us at the old courthouse. Come alone. We'll show you the truth."Dante stared at the screen. His hand moved to his weapon out of instinct. He'd been sleeping, but the adrenaline hit him like a shot of cold water.Naomi stirred beside him. "What's wrong?""Someone wants to meet.""Who?""I don't know." He swung his legs off the bed. "But they know where we are. They knew how to reach me."Naomi sat up. Her eyes were sharp, fully awake. "That's not good.""No. It's not."He dressed quickly. Checked his weapons. Naomi grabbed his arm. "Don't go alone.""I have to. They said come alone.""Since when do you follow orders from strangers?"Dante looked at her. The fear in her eyes was real. The love was real. But he needed answers."I'll be careful," he said. "I'll stay in contact."Naomi released his arm. "If you're not back in two hours, I'm coming after you.""I kno
The Reckoning
The safehouse fell silent.Dante's hand rested on his weapon. His eyes were locked on Naomi's face. She was pale. Trembling. But she didn't look away."Three years ago," she began, "I was recruited by the network. Not by choice. They had my family. They threatened to kill them if I didn't cooperate. I was young. Scared. I did what they asked."Dante's jaw tightened. "That's the same story you told me before.""Because it's true. But there's more." She took a shaky breath. "After my family died, I had nothing. No reason to keep working for the network. But I was already in too deep. I knew too much. They would have killed me if I tried to leave.""So you stayed.""I stayed. And I did terrible things. Things I'm not proud of." Her voice cracked. "Then I met you. And I started to see a way out. A way to fight back. To make things right."Dante's hand moved away from his weapon. "Why didn't you tell me this before?""Because I was ashamed. Because I was afraid you'd hate me. Because I was
