Chapter 8.

Stacy had told Brooklyn that he should come with his attorney to Adonai’s house so they could talk about the divorce process and get it over with as soon as possible.

William had gotten an Attorney for his son and together, Brooklyn and the attorney left for Adonai’s house in the woman’s car.

“What can I offer you?” Adonai’s maid asked as they arrived but Brooklyn and the Attorney Julia politely declined.

“Hi, I’m Julia Presley, Mr. Ashland attorney.” Julia introduced herself with a smile on her face.

“I am Paul Grant. Mrs. Bar..”

“Ms. Barrett.” Stacy corrected the attorney.

“Ms. Barrett attorney.” Paul Grant introduced.

After they had exchanged pleasantries, Julia started, “on behalf of Mr. Ashland, I wish to ask a few questions.”

“Go ahead.” Stacy said, her fingers laced together. Julia glanced at Adonai and Stacy said he could stay.

Julie smiled, “If you don’t respect your marriage you should respect Brooklyn as a man. I insist he excused us.”

“I choose to stay, it’s my house.” Adonai chirped in.

“Then we can reschedule another day, at a better place.” Julia said, already packing up her stuff, but Brooklyn held her hand and gave a nod, winking at her.

“So your girlfriend is your attorney?” Stacy asked, quirking her mouth.

“But your boyfriend got you his lawyer. We are even.” Brooklyn answered, feeling relaxed as usual.

Stacy wanted to talk but Julia cut her off, “We are not talking about our relationship. Let’s get on to the real deal.”

Brooklyn side glanced at Stacy and he could see the jealousy in her eyes but he didn’t care.

“I must ask why you’re filing for a divorce.” Julia asked.

“I think I fell out of love for him..”

“You think or you fell out love for him?” Adonai countered her words.

“Adonai please.. this is emotional for me.” Stacy said, clearing her throat, “I couldn’t deal with it again and I just want to be out of the marriage.”

“Make it make sense, Stacy.” Paul, the attorney said.

“I want a better life for myself, I am a woman of luxury and I deserve the good life.”

“You knew that was what you wanted, why did you marry him in the first place?” Julia inquired further.

Stacy sighed and started to fake a tear, looking away.

“She has been cheating on me for a long while, not months but for a few years and she agreed to her ex condition of marrying him for a bill I have always paid.” Brooklyn explained in detail, letting the cat out of the bag.

“But she has always loved me.” Adonai interfered.

“Bull shit!” Julia exclaimed. “This is pure greed and a woman like her will never be satisfied even if you give her the whole world and you use her problems against her for your own selfish reason.”

“It’s her reason and her condition and I love her too.” Adonai defended himself.

Julia shakes her head, holding Brooklyn’s hand and giving it a small squeezed.

“Can we sign the paper now?”

Paul asked, he wanted to get this over with so he could attend to other better things and with his calmness, it was obvious that he was a paid actor in this moment, even though he was a lawyer.

“Not so fast.” Brooklyn said.

“Why?” Stacy asked.

“I need time to process all of these and to truly let you go from my life not because you want to.”

“For how long?” Adonai asked, “because our wedding should be in three or five months time.”  He added.

“Congratulations in advance.” Brooklyn chortled, “can I have my ring back?” He turned to Stacy.

“I’m sorry, I pawned it for a Chanel bag.” Stacy bluntly said.

“I want my money, you owe me a two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.” Brooklyn said.

“What? Are you insane?!” Stacy couldn’t believe her ears.

“Tell your husband to be to pay for it. A man truly loved you and went out of his way to make you happy and you had the gut to pawn off his life savings.” Julia said, she was started to get pissed.

“I could borrow you the money.” Adonai said to Stacy who said nothing. “If she has your account number, I’d send to your account.”

“You really want to borrow me the money we both enjoyed together, Adonai.” Stacy finally found her voice to speak.

“I only said that maybe he would let the money go for you, after all, it’s not like you’re working, where would you get the money to pay.” Adonai defended himself again.

Brooklyn was enjoying the drama, he enjoyed how they both washed their dirty linens in front of them, he knew Adonai wasn’t entirely true with Stacy and she was too blind to see it.

After Brooklyn and Julia had left, the other attorney, Paul collected his payment and left, even though he barely said anything during the meeting.

“Baby?” Adonai started, drawing closer to Stacy, he held her hand and said, “We are in this together, your pain is my pain.” He kissed her softly on the lips.

“Your happiness is mine too.” He kissed her again, his hand sliding into her bra and cupping her boobs, squeezing them lightly.

Stacy moaned unable to resist Adonai’s touch as she parted her legs and welcomed him into her garden.

On their way out, Brooklyn had told Julia to drop him off at the bus station and after making sure Julia’s car was out of sight, he waited for Darlene to turn the car around and slid in the back seat.

“How did it go?” Darlene questioned.

“She’s owing me two hundred and forty thousand dollars for pawning off the wedding ring.”

“Is that actually the amount?”

“Yes, I got it right before my father cut me off.” Brooklyn answered sincerely, his voice cracking, he was a bit hurt.

“Would she be able to pay it off, I’m sorry to pry.” Darlene apologized, she realized she was asking personal questions.

“Adonai will. I smell something fishy. Can you run a background check on Adonai Kingston thoroughly?”

“Yes sir, I can.” Darlene answered, “but if your suspicions is right, would you be able to save her?”

“Do you want my my honest answer?” Brooklyn asked.

“Yes.” Darlene replied, her eyes on the road.

“No, I won’t. She deserves whatever I’ll fortune that comes to her.”
