"Teresa?!" Adrian finally found his voice, but he had to mention her name one more time before she could notice his presence. And even then, she didn't seem to care.

"Oh... Adrian". She mumbled nonchalantly.

"What are you doing?" He was unsure of what else to say. His eyes were shooting red already, he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"Making out with my new boyfriend," she faced him again, smiling flirtingly. He could see Ricardo's face under the bright lights above them. He had an evil smirk printed all around, as if he had been waiting patiently for this day.

He was the ladies man, the dream of every girl. And now, Adrian's Teresa included. Adrian still could not believe it. He had thought that even if every girl swoon over the Italian kid for his father's money, Teresa would certainly be different. Was he wrong all along?

"But... Us..." He stammered and staggered, eyes fixed on Teresa. She only burst into a wild laughter which brought silence to the room as everyone directed their focus on them.

"Us? You really think there was ever any 'us'? I was only with you for the benefits. You were a top student who seemed to know everything, I was a struggling student. So I stayed with you, only for the benefits. I thought you were smart but maybe you aren't smart enough to figure that out."

Knees shook and lips shivered as he listened to her cruel words. He could not imagine that she would ever say those vile things.

"So you used me all these while?"

"Oh no, boy. You benefited from me too, Adyyy. People saw you around me, I'm sure that reduced your weirdness at least. Because trust me boy, without me, you wouldn't have survived a semester on this campus. I mean... Look around you, Adrian. Does anyone of us look like you?"

She strolled around him, one arm on his shoulder and the other flying freely, pointing her fingers to every corner of the room and then back to him, the odd one out. The answer was obvious. Everyone else belonged to a super rich family. Everyone except Adrian. He was the black sheep.

"What's this?" She took the wrapped box from him. He had cuddled it tightly so far just so he could give it to her. "Awwwnnn... You really got me a gift for Val? Is it the latest jewelry in town? Nah... You can't afford that. Probably just another fake diamond. I don't need your gifts, loser." The present flew back against his chest and into his hands, further deepening his wounds.

Teresa cat-walked back to her new boyfriend and they locked in kisses again in front of him. Adrian heard whispers, gasps and laughter of mockery. Even the clapping of hands. Everyone probably thought he deserved this.

"This is the best valentine gift ever..." His ears could hear the mockery. He really didn't want to hear any of that, but he did.

"It looks like he's gonna cry..."

"I would totally love to see that. What a simp! I have gotta have this on camera right now!" A guy pulled out his iPhone, recording.

"Cry loser, cry!!"

It seemed like eternity when they kissed. He wanted to leave, but his feet wouldn't move. They were rooted to the ground. When it was over, Teresa peered at him one more time.

"You don't belong here, dear. Most importantly, you don't deserve me. Get out." She gestured with her head in a cold manner towards the door. Adrian's blood boiled. He couldn't just leave like that. Just like that?

Strong hands pulled him from behind. It was the security men. Adrian struggled but they were stronger. They were about to throw him out when Ricardo commanded them to stop with a slight raise of his finger. Then he came slowly.

"You know, Adrian. I really pity you. You are nothing but a charity case. That's the only reason you can attend the same school as us, the same parties as us. It's better you know your place. Did you really think you could keep a babe like Teresa? She's a queen around here, you know. You should be her slave." Ricardo stared into Adrian's eyes with disgust, occasionally placing his palm behind his neck and brushing his hair with a dismissive look on his face. He wanted to place his hand on Adrian's shoulder, then he stopped midway as if scared that Adrian carried a disease around. "You should focus on making loads of money so you won't be abandoned again in the future. Geez. Do you have any idea how terrible you look?"

He shook his head pitifully and everyone else chorused in laughter.

"I know you're a smart kid, Adrian. So I'll give you one chance to walk away peacefully. Walk out of here, just the same way your parents walked out of your life."

Dear lord! Did he just mention Adrian's parents? How dare he?

His last words triggered a much louder gasp from the audience, and they all thought it was funny. But within Adrian's chest, he felt his heart pump faster in rage. And before anyone could see it coming, his clenched fist landed on Ricardo Rodriguez's face, sending him to the ground and causing chaos to erupt in the blink of an eye.

"Did he...?"

"He just attacked the face of the university? That sore loser?!"

Adrian found himself on the floor as well in no time as Ricardo's guards, friends and servants kicked and punched him blue and black, almost knocking him out cold. The beating became worse in seconds and before he knew it, he could barely lift a finger afterwards.

"Pull him up."

As they forced him on his knees, his eyes barely opened to see Ricardo seated with a red face, Teresa tending to his scratch. He managed a smirk, satisfied.

"Are you laughing?" Ricardo noticed.

He stood up in greater annoyance and charged at Adrian. Then he stopped, and bent his face down towards him.

"Listen and listen well, Adrian Blood. I know you have nothing, but I promise I will take everything away from you one by one... Starting with this little scholarship of yours." He threatened, but Adrian was too damaged to care. "Throw him out."

At Ricardo's command, Adrian felt his body launched into the air by multiple hands, dragged roughly away from the scene. Later, he could see the stars in the sky shortly before he landed roughly on a waste ground littered with broken bottles. He could only scream as the sharp things pierced into his skin and blood came gushing. The foul smell of his surrounding was also unbearable. As he heard footsteps recede from him, his only companion was the gift box he bought for Teresa, lying by his side as helpless as himself.

Then like a thought, louder than usual, a voice came into his head. "CHOSEN HEIR SYSTEM. HOST DETECTED. ACTIVATING IN 3... 2... 1..."
