6. Jade Stone Pendant

Ruth remained silent and continued her work, as if reluctant to answer. This made Luca even more curious.

“Tell me, how do you know General Hugo?” Luca asked again and would ask until he got an answer.

However, Ruth didn’t want to answer. She just clenched her mouth and walked into the living room. Luca followed along like a chicken, but his mouth kept making noises.

“We were comrades in arms before and until the end of the world came, but you kept secrets from me. This is outrageous!”

Ruth stopped walking, turned back, and looked at Luca. The expression on her face did not look good. After a few moments of staring at the man, she let out a light snort, then said, “You’re so noisy, like a woman in heat.”

“Hey, what are you saying?” Luca interrupted irritably. If it weren’t for his curiosity about Hugo, he wouldn’t have said so much.

Turning her face away and resuming her steps, Ruth said, “Didn’t I tell you that I can predict the future, and this Hugo is in it?”

“So you don’t know him?”

Ruth threw her body on the sofa lazily, glancing at Luca. “How do I know him? Am I so great?”

Luca nodded again, but thinking of the luxurious penthouse left by the girl’s parents, it didn’t seem impossible that Ruth could know a big man like Hugo. So he looked at Ruth with doubt.

Of course, Ruth, which made her let out a long sigh, could see the doubt in Luca’s eyes. She rolled her eyeballs and gave Luca a disgusted expression.

“I’m telling the truth. My impression of him is only from what I saw when I predicted the doomsday period.” Ruth wasn’t lying. She didn’t know Hugo, at least not now. Maybe in the future, too.

After a silence, Ruth spoke again before being interrupted by Luca, “He’s not a good person, it’s best to avoid getting into a dispute with him too early.” At least until you’re strong enough to defeat him, Ruth continued in thought.

Luca didn’t understand why Ruth hated Hugo so much. However, according to what he heard, Luca guessed that Hugo had done them wrong in Ruth’s eyes.

If you think about it seriously, Hugo’s evil character makes sense. His arrogance had a reason in that he was born strong and brilliant, as if the top position of respect and fear was rightfully his.

Luca sighed regretfully. Look at him, just an ordinary doomsday human with a standard appearance.

“Don’t think about it too much. I’ll be your support.” Ruth’s words shattered Luca’s reverie.

“I’m not... it’s just a shame that such a perfect person has a dark side.”

“Heh, no one is perfect in this world. Don’t be naïve!”

“I know.” Luca looked away, but his mood was not very good. It seemed like he had to try hard to achieve half the glory of General Hugo Lloris.

“By the way, we can start hunting after a few more days. So prepare yourself.”

Luca finally looked back at Ruth. This time, a serious look replaced his previous gloomy expression. He had heard that zombies had crystal nuclei in their brains, which could augment the strength of people with special abilities. Each zombie also had different abilities, so each zombie’s crystal nucleus could only help special ability users of the same type.

However, if they were hunting zombies, the only one capable of absorbing was Ruth. It was also the same rare type of healing zombie as the owner of the healing, special ability.

“Are there any other uses for this crystal core?” asked Luca.

Ruth nodded her head. “There are many. It will also be a medium of exchange in place of money. That’s why we need to collect a lot in the first place.”

Luca made an indistinct murmur in response. Then he took off his sleeveless shirt in front of Ruth. Yes, they did not feel awkward at all. Even Luca often saw Ruth wearing only a bra and panties. However, neither Ruth nor Luca had any other thoughts.

It wasn’t that Luca didn’t lust after women; it was just that, for some reason, he always thought of Ruth as just as him, a man. Maybe it was the impression Ruth had given him over the past few months that made him think that she wasn’t like a woman at all.

Just like Luca, Ruth also had no other thoughts about the other party. However, she was envious of Luca’s increasingly good body proportions. She snorted in annoyance, but her eyes were fixed on the pendant of Luca’s necklace.

“Hey, since when do you wear a necklace?” Ruth had often seen Luca without a shirt, but this was the first time she had seen a necklace around the man’s neck.

“Ah, this?” Luca held up the pendant of his necklace and showed Ruth. “I found it in an old box the other day. It looked good, so I put it on.”

“You... you’re so lucky, Bro!” Ruth squealed with delight, rising to her feet and reaching out to grab the pendant.

However, Luca avoided her quickly. “What’s wrong?” he asked, both confused and wary.

Ruth had an annoyed look on her face. “Hey, don’t you know?”

Frowning, Luca showed an expression of ignorance. That made Ruth cluck her tongue. It was incredible that the strongest god was ignorant, even a little... stupid.

“That is jade, you know, right?”

Luca nodded ridiculously.

“The longer the age of the jade, the more likely it is to have power in the end times,” Ruth explained calmly, but Ruth sharply fixed her gaze on the jade around Luca’s neck.. “That only applies if the jade is old enough.”

After digesting the information, Luca asked, “Then how do I know?”

“Impress your blood on the surface of the stone and see how it reacts.”

Luca thought about it for a while before taking off his necklace. He stared at the jade pendant. Having made up his mind, he did as Ruth said. Bit his fingertip until it bled and dripped blood onto the jade surface.

One minute. Two minutes. Five minutes. Ten minutes.

Nothing happened.

Luca looked away from the jade and gave Ruth a reproachful look.

Seeing his gaze, Ruth squinted at the jade and sighed. “I’m not lying. That means your jade is not ancient enough.”

Luca let out a long sigh and ignoring Ruth, he went to his room to clean the jade, but his stomach suddenly gave him heartburn. He simply placed the jade on the nightstand and ran to the bathroom, relieving himself quickly.

Oh, maybe he also needed to clean his body after exercising earlier.

Half an hour passed and Luca had already forgotten about the jade. He left the room to find some food before entering the surveillance room upstairs.

As he walked towards the stairs, Luca noticed that the door to the basement was open. He peeked a little, but had no intention of entering. The basement contained almost the same supplies as the common room, only in smaller quantities and quite rarely. He knew that Ruth had an interest in weapons and her ability to use weapons was also quite good.

Sometimes, Luca thought Ruth was strange. However, he didn’t think she had any bad intentions, so Luca ignored the weirdness.

As soon as he entered the surveillance room, an alarm rang in the house, signaling that someone was approaching or even touching the gate.

Both Luca and Ruth were startled and reacted quickly. Luca immediately adjusted the surveillance and checked it.

Ruth’s shout rang out, “What’s wrong?”

After all, they had lived on this base for months and no one had ever been here other than a few nearby villagers. Since the end of the world, not a single person had come. And today, as the rain pounded the earth relentlessly, someone suddenly approached their base.

Under surveillance, they saw a foreign car parked carelessly on the road. A person turned his back to the surveillance camera, his posture looking limp, with trembling hands banging on the iron gate.

“Is it still human?” Ruth asked as she watched the figure.

“Looks like it is. Should we help him?” Luca glanced at Ruth with a serious yet reluctant expression.

After a few moments of watching Luca, Ruth asked back, “What do you think?”

Luca nodded without hesitation. After all, the people outside were still human. Even if it would turn into zombies, they still had a chance to win.

However, when the person outside turned his face and faced the camera, both Ruth and Luca made surprised faces.

This was so unexpected!
