Reynold set his jaw in an expression of remorse. Perhaps he had finally realized that it wasn’t wise to run away from the mess that he caused.

“Alright tell me what I have to do, please. I will listen to you - I am ready to do as you wish.”

“I guess we will see about that,” Alan responded. “You are going to visit the Andrich family and admit your wrongs to them. They are disappointed because the police have taken a dodgy route with the investigation. The least you can do is to retrace your steps.”

“Yes, I am aware that doing that means that you will be at their mercy but it shows that you are more than committed to change your ways. You have a history of recklessness, Reynold. It’s unfortunate because you are actually very good at your job - if not you wouldn’t have won the award.”

“You should consider the incident with Emma as a consequence that will teach you a lesson. But you have to visit her and her parents. That is all I ask.”
