Everybody in the ballroom started talking.

"Mrs Natasha wants to divorce her husband because of Henry? Are you sure that those two are not dating?" one guest whispered, eyes wide with suspicion.

"Mrs Natasha is not someone that will do something so evil," another woman said, shaking her head in disbelief.

"If our marriage means that little to you that you would want to divorce me because of another man, then I do not think I want to remain married to you," Elijah told her, his voice full of pain and regret, as he pulled off the ring on his finger. He stared at the ring for a moment, memories ran through his mind ,times when they laughed together, struggled together, loved each other unconditionally. Then, without hesitation, he threw the ring at her feet.

"Since you decide to defend another man and want to get divorced, then let's do it," Elijah told her.

Natasha, his wife, scoffed.

All she wanted was to scare him a bit ,so that he would apologise and this would be behind them. She hadn’t really meant to push things this far, but now the words had been said and with that ring on the ground ,there was no taking them back.

"Fine, but just remember that you get nothing from me," Natasha reminded him. Elijah only shook his head.

He remembered the post-nup she had him sign three years into their marriage ,he thought it was for her protection, but now he understood her true intentions.

She wants to leave him with nothing in case she gets tired of the marriage.

"I don't want your money," Elijah said.

"Look at how he's acting like he doesn't depend on his wife to feed. Shameless man. Finally, my daughter can get rid of the leech on her skin!" Mrs. Williams , his mother in law sneered, with a smile on her face.

They used to treat him with kindness when Natasha wasn’t rich yet. Now, they acted like he was beneath them.

"Take only the clothes that you have and leave that house. Remember that nothing there belongs to you," Mr. Williams , his father in law added.

Elijah didn’t bother responding, he turned and walked away. Natasha wanted to call him back, to ask him to just apologise to Henry and let things return to normal, but the words didn't leave her mouth

"It's for the best," she mumbled to herself.

At the end of the day, she told herself, she was now in a different league. She should be with someone who worked as hard as she did, not someone who depended on her. She turned toward Henry with concern on her face.

"You should get changed," she said quietly, and Henry simply nodded.

Meanwhile, Elijah walked out of the ballroom.

He thought maybe he should have just apologised. Maybe he should have let it go. But then he remembered how she treated him like he didn’t matter. No, this was for the best.

As he walked a short distance toward the roadside, a black van screeched to a halt in front of him. Two masked men jumped out and tried to grab a woman trying to walk into a small boutique.

People gasped in horror and ran to safety, some got their phones to call the police. Elijah didn’t hesitate, as he charged at the attackers. He punched the first man, sending him crashing back , his back hitting the van, he kicked the second in the stomach, and the man dropped to the ground with a groan. Elijah then pulled the trembling woman into his arms.

"Are you okay?" he inquired with concern in his voice. The woman was still shaking, unable to form words.

The van driver, realizing the mission had failed, stepped on the gas and drove away, leaving his companions behind. A few moments later, the police arrived, arrested the two unconscious men, and began questioning the woman. She tried to find her savior, but Elijah had already disappeared from her side.

Three black SUVs arrived at the scene, and a middle-aged man ran out of his car, rushing toward the woman.

"Olivia, are you alright?" he asked in concern, eyes scanning her for injuries.

"Daddy, they tried to take me away!" Olivia cried, throwing herself into her father's embrace.

Mr. Blake turned to the police officers, his face filled with rage.

"Who dared try to kidnap my daughter in broad daylight?" he demanded, his voice rising with fury.

"Mr. Blake, these are the two men. They were already knocked out when we got here. But we didn’t see the man who saved your daughter," one of the officers explained.

"Is this true?" Mr. Blake asked his daughter.

"Yes, Dad. He saved me. He just kicked them and they all fell down! I was trying to compose myself, and when the police came, he was already gone," she explained.

Olivia Blake, the only daughter of a well-known businessman in the country, known for his pride in his car producing company, had nearly been kidnapped for ransom.

"We need to find the man who saved my daughter, he deserves to be thanked and rewarded. Check the CCTV camera of the boutique! I’m sure we’ll find his face. I need to find him and show my gratitude," Mr. Blake said urgently.

"Yes, sir!" his bodyguard responded immediately. Mr. Blake helped his daughter into the car, and they sped away, as the bodyguard went to check for the CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, Elijah, having made sure the woman was safe, got into a cab and left, he headed back to Natasha’s mansion. He went into the bedroom to begin packing his luggage.

He loved Natasha deeply. He had stayed with her even through the hardest times just to prove that he loved her. She used to say in college that she didn’t care for rich men, she wanted someone she could grow with. That was why he hid his identity as a rich heir. He wanted to earn her love, not buy it. But she hadn’t held her end of the deal. Now, she didn’t respect him, didn’t trust him. It was time to let go.

Elijah zipped up the last luggage and took out his phone.

"Clean up my mansion and make some arrangements. I will be coming back home soon," he said to the receiver.

"Yes, sir. I will get to it right away," his assistant replied.

Elijah was dragging his luggage downstairs when the front door opened. Natasha and her parents entered. She stopped when she saw him.

"I do not know when you became this proud that you cannot even render a little apology to make everything go away," Natasha said. She remembered the man who stayed up with her when she was sick, who cooked for her, supported her, and never complained. She didn’t want to lose him, but she didn’t want to be used either.

"You said you wanted to get divorced. Where is the divorce paper? Let me sign it and leave. I do not want to come back here or see you ever again," Elijah told her as he walked down the stairs to stand in front of her.

"I will have the lawyer arrange divorce papers tomorrow if that is really what you want," Natasha replied, trying to stay composed. But before either of them could say another word, Mrs. Williams stepped forward.

"Natasha, what are you saying? I have divorce papers here that he can sign immediately. Let me bring it," Mrs. Williams announced proudly, opening her handbag and pulling out a folder.

Elijah stared at the document in shock. She had been carrying divorce papers, just waiting for this moment?
