Chapter 4: The Heir’s Rotten Secret
...the bullet tore through the air, the explosion of gunpowder deafening in the narrow street, but to Zolda's eyes, that hot piece of lead was moving like a snail on a lazy Sunday. With a movement barely perceptible to the human eye, Zolda just tilted his head slightly to the side, letting the bullet whiz past his ear and shatter the side mirror of the luxury car behind him.
SMASH!
"Holy shit! You... you dodged it?!" Reno's eyes bulged, the hand gripping the gold-plated pistol trembling violently.
"Aw, Reno, what a waste. Using such an expensive gun just to shoot the breeze. You should probably pawn that thing off, use the cash for your medical bills, seriously," Zolda grinned, his eyes flashing a mocking gold.
"Shut your mouth, you bum! Die! BANG! BANG! BANG!"
Reno panicked, firing off the rest of his clip in a blind frenzy. Zolda maneuvered like a shadow, every bullet finding nothing but empty air. Suddenly, he was standing right in front of Reno, making the kid's breath hitch in his throat.
"What did I tell you? You're sick, Reno. That STD of yours has spread all the way to your lymph nodes. If you fire one more time, your blood pressure's gonna make the veins in your crotch explode. Wanna test that theory?" Zolda whispered right in the face of the kid, who reeked of expensive cologne mixed with cold sweat.
"Liar! You're just trying to scare me, you bastard! Aunt Sofia, look at this! He's insulting me!" Reno screamed hysterically, scrambling for cover behind Sofia's back.
Sofia stepped forward, her face flushed red with a mix of embarrassment and rage. "Zolda, or whatever your trashy name is! Shut your mouth! Reno is the son of my biggest business partner, there is no way he has some low-class disease like that!"
"Believe whatever you want, lady. But go ahead, ask Reno. Hasn't he been feeling a burning sensation when he pees for the last week? And what about those red spots on his inner thigh?" Zolda glanced at Reno, raising a single eyebrow.
Reno's face instantly went pale as a sheet. Reflexively, his hand went to his lower stomach. "You... how the hell do you know that kind of detail?!"
"Damn, so it's true, Ren? Wow, you are messed up! You screw my own mother, and you share your diseases too?!" Navi yelled, laughing in disgust, though her eyes were glistening with tears of betrayal.
"Silence, Navi! You ungrateful brat, you should have been dead at the hands of Wijaya's men! Why are you siding with this hobo?!" Sofia barked at her daughter.
"Hobo? Mom, the hobo you're talking about just wiped out Wijaya's elite squad all by himself. And in a second, he's gonna flatten your little boy toy if you don't get the hell out of here," Navi stepped forward, standing tall beside Zolda.
Zolda patted Navi's shoulder gently. "Easy, Nav, don't waste your breath on these stressed-out losers. Your energy is too expensive to spend arguing with scrap metal."
"Insolent! Reno, shoot him! Finish him right now!" Sofia shrieked.
Reno tried to raise his gun again, but suddenly his arm locked up. He couldn't move his fingers at all. "Auntie... my hand... I can't move my hand! It hurts so bad, Auntie!"
"That's called a warning from the universe. I told you, don't act tough when your body's already rotting," Zolda flicked Reno's forehead. Instantly, Reno toppled over backward, passing out from a neural shock Zolda delivered through air pressure alone.
"Reno! Wake up, Reno!" Sofia screamed, trying to shake her lover who was now sprawled out helplessly.
"You better take him to the hospital, lady. Tell the doctor it's a case of late-stage Syphilis mixed with Sudden Heart Failure. If you're even a little late, he's a goner," Zolda said flatly, grabbing Navi's hand. "Come on, Nav, my fried rice is waiting."
"Zolda, wait! You can't just leave like that! I'm calling the police! You assaulted him!" Sofia yelled from the asphalt, her face completely losing its socialite composure.
"Police? Go ahead. Just tell them a hobo diagnosed your lover's STD from two meters away. I'm sure they'll believe you," Zolda laughed loudly, then they both hopped into Reno's red sports car—Zolda had swiped the keys when he flashed past earlier.
"Wait, this is Reno's car, Zolda! Are you stealing it?!" Navi was shocked as she settled into the plush passenger seat.
"Stealing? Nah. Consider it an emergency medical consultation f*e. Besides, he doesn't need a car anymore, he needs an ambulance right now," Zolda slammed on the gas, leaving Sofia screaming in the middle of the deserted street.
Inside the car, Navi was dead silent. She stared out the window, watching the city lights blur past.
"You okay, Nav? If you wanna cry, just cry. This car is soundproof," Zolda said without turning his head, his hands deftly maneuvering the steering wheel.
"I don't wanna cry for a woman like that, Zolda. I just... I didn't think she hated me enough to agree to have me killed by the Wijaya family."
"Money turns people into demons, Nav. That's why we gotta become the devils so those demons fear us."
Navi turned, looking at Zolda's side profile. "Where did you get that power? Golden eyes, catching bullets, diagnosing diseases just by looking... are you even human?"
"I'm just a guy who got tired of being stepped on, Nav. The rest... just consider it a windfall from the heavens. Now, focus on the plan. Is your apartment actually safe?"
"It's safe. It's under my assistant's name, who died two years ago. No one knows about it except me. There's a secret server there where I keep all the evidence of tax evasion by the Wijaya family and a few other conglomerates, including my mother."
"Good. We need that ammo. I'm gonna make every single one of them kneel at your feet. Not just because I want their money, but because I hate people who think they're gods just because their bank account has a lot of zeros."
Before long, they arrived at a luxury apartment building in the Sudirman district. Zolda parked the red sports car in the deepest corner of the basement so it wouldn't be easily found.
"Whoa, damn! Your apartment is top-tier, huh? Way different from my incense-smelling shack," Zolda gawked at the marble-filled lobby.
"Quiet. Remember, here you're my bodyguard. Don't look so tacky, we'll draw suspicion," Navi whispered, walking quickly toward the private elevator.
When the elevator doors opened on the top floor, they were greeted by a massive space with an insane view of Jakarta's city lights. The furniture was minimalist but looked like it cost enough to buy a small village.
"Okay, we're safe now. What do you want to eat? I'll just order delivery, too lazy to go out again," Navi tossed her bag onto the leather sofa.
"I told you goat fried rice from the street cart! Why are we ordering delivery?" Zolda protested, his stomach growling loudly.
"You think there's a street cart selling goat fried rice in Sudirman at this hour, Zolda?! All we have here is wagyu fried rice for fifty bucks. You want it?"
"Wagyu? What's that? A type of fish? Whatever, just get it, as long as it's a lot and not poisoned."
Navi chuckled softly. It was the first time she felt relaxed after days of being on the run. She grabbed her phone and started ordering food. While waiting, she watched Zolda wandering around the apartment, touching flower vases, staring at paintings, like a kid in a museum for the first time.
"Zolda, thanks. Without you, I'd probably be a corpse in that alley right now."
Zolda stopped in front of a large window. "Don't thank me yet. Our journey is still long. Wijaya won't sit still, your mom is definitely going to find a way to strike back. And then there's that 'Medical Shadow Sect' you mentioned. What are they exactly?"
Navi took a deep breath. "They're a group of genius doctors, but they're insane. They don't use medicine to cure, they use it for human experimentation. They're the ones who provided the scorpion poison that was in my body. They have an ambition to find the secret of eternal life, and it seems they know about the Kunao Inner Eye you possess."
"Eternal life? Please, even prophets die, and they want to live forever? Delusional. But if they want my eyes, does that mean they know how to use them?"
"Maybe. There's an old legend that says the Kunao Inner Eye is the key to unlocking the 'Divine Doctor's Heirloom,' which can control life and death just through thought. If that falls into their hands, this world is doomed, Zolda."
"Interesting. Makes me even more eager to kick their asses one by one. Hey, food's here!" Zolda heard the doorbell ring.
Navi walked to the door, checking the intercom. "Huh, that was fast? I just ordered two minutes ago."
Zolda suddenly felt something wrong. His golden eyes activated automatically. He looked through the apartment door.
"Navi, DON'T OPEN THE DOOR!" Zolda shouted.
But it was too late. Navi had already hit the unlock button. The door opened, and standing there wasn't a food delivery guy, but a man in modern black armor with an oxygen mask covering his entire face. His hand held a small gas canister which he immediately sprayed right at Navi.
"AHHH! Zolda... it burns...!" Navi fell to the floor, clutching her red eyes.
"SON OF A BITCH! YOU DARE!" Zolda rushed forward, but his steps were halted as he felt the apartment floor suddenly become extremely slick and emit high-voltage electricity.
"Zolda, the new Medical Emperor... welcome to our game," the masked man's voice sounded deep, modified by a communication device. "Hand over those eyes, or this apartment becomes a crematorium for this girl."
"You think cheap tricks like this can hold me?!" Zolda pressed a pressure point on his own leg to neutralize the electric current, then jumped to the ceiling, sticking like a gecko, and lunged at the armored man.
BOOM!
A massive collision occurred. The man turned out to have abnormal physical strength; he blocked Zolda's punch with his forearm, which was made of a special metal alloy.
"Your strength is decent, but you're still green when it comes to modern medical technology," the man pulled a trigger on his arm, and dozens of micro-needles shot out from the armor, targeting every fatal point on Zolda's body.
Zolda spun in the air, parrying the needles with his own silver ones. "Technology? In front of my Inner Eye, all your tech is just a pile of circuit trash!"
Zolda landed smoothly, then moved his hands in a specific pattern. Golden light erupted from his body, forming a dragon aura that drastically raised the room temperature.
"Navi, can you hear me?! Crawl to the kitchen, fast!" Zolda barked while holding off the armored man's follow-up attacks.
Navi, her eyes still burning, tried to crawl as best she could. But suddenly, from the apartment ceiling, two more men in identical gear dropped down. They immediately ambushed Navi and injected something into her neck.
"ZOLDAAAA! HEEEELP!" Navi screamed before her voice cut out and she went limp instantly.
"BASTARDS! LET HER GO!" Zolda was truly enraged now. His hair stood on end, and his golden aura exploded, destroying all the furniture around him.
Zolda moved with lightning speed, his hand punching through the chest armor of one of the kidnappers like paper. He ripped the man's heart out without mercy! Blood sprayed everywhere, but Zolda didn't care.
"One down! Who's next?!" Zolda stared at the remaining two with the gaze of a pure demon.
The first man stepped back, clearly shaken by Zolda's madness. "Enough! If you take one more step, I'll press the detonator for the poison just injected into this girl's neck. One press, and her brain melts in three seconds!"
Zolda stopped. His breathing was heavy. Through his Inner Eye, he could see a blue liquid sitting near Navi's brainstem. The liquid was highly sensitive to radio signals.
"What do you want, huh?!" Zolda snarled, his voice like thunder.
"Come with us to the Shadow Sect's headquarters. Our boss wants to talk. If you cooperate, the girl gets the antidote. But if you try anything funny..."
"Fine, fine! I'll go! But if you hurt her even a little bit, I swear your entire bloodline will die suffering at my hands!" Zolda clenched his fists until they bled.
"Wise choice. Now, put on these energy-neutralizing cuffs," the man tossed a pair of black cuffs with blinking red indicator lights.
Zolda looked at the cuffs. He knew they were special cuffs designed to drain Qi energy. But he had no other choice for Navi's sake. Just as Zolda was about to put them on, the apartment window shattered into pieces from sniper fire coming from the building across the street.
BANG!
The bullet wasn't aiming for Zolda or the kidnappers, but for the detonator tube in the armored man's hand. The tube shattered, and instantly the apartment alarm blared loudly.
"DAMN IT! WHO SHOT THAT?!" the armored man panicked.
Zolda didn't waste time. While they were distracted, he launched himself and caught Navi's body. "Nav, wake up! Nav!"
But Navi didn't wake up. Her face was starting to turn blue. The poison was reacting because the detonator signal was destroyed!
"Crazy! The poison activates automatically!" Zolda panicked. He immediately pressed pressure points on Navi's head to halt the poison's progress. "I need surgical tools now! But where..."
Suddenly, from the direction of the shattered window, a woman in a modern silver-white ninja suit dropped down. She landed gracefully in front of Zolda.
"Hand her over to me if you want her to live, Zolda," the woman said in a very familiar voice.
Zolda's eyes widened. "You... you're..."
The woman took off her face covering, and Zolda was shocked to see the face behind the mask. "Doctor Siska?! What... what are you doing here dressed like that?!"
"Long story. Now help me hold off these sect guys, I'll take Navi to the resistance organization's secret lab!" Siska immediately picked Navi up with agility.
"Resistance organization? What do you mean?!"
"No time to explain! More of them are coming! Look down!" Siska pointed to the window.
Below, dozens of black cars had surrounded the apartment building. Attack helicopters were starting to appear on the horizon.
"Damn, this is like World War III!" Zolda felt his adrenaline spike again. "Alright, get Navi out of here! I'll deal with these roaches!"
"Be careful, Zolda. Their leader is in one of those helicopters. He's not a normal human!" Siska immediately jumped out the window carrying Navi, deploying a mini parachute that opened automatically.
Zolda stood alone in the wrecked apartment, surrounded by two dead cloaked men and one armored man trying to crawl away. He stared at the approaching helicopters.
"Okay, you guys wanna play rough? Let's go! I'll show you how a Medical Emperor throws a tantrum!" Zolda drew all the golden energy in his body until he was glowing blindingly bright.
He ran to the balcony, then jumped toward the nearest helicopter. With a single slash using his bare hand charged with energy, the helicopter's rotor was severed, and the machine crashed and exploded in the middle of the street!
"WHO ELSE WANTS TO DIE?!" Zolda screamed amidst the raging fire.
Suddenly, a heavy voice boomed from the main helicopter's loudspeaker. "Zolda... you are interesting. But you forgot one thing. The Kunao Inner Eye has a curse you don't know about yet..."
Zolda frowned. Suddenly, his heart felt like it was pierced by an ice sword. His vision blurred, and the golden light on his body dimmed abruptly.
"Ugh... what... what's happening to my body...?" Zolda fell to his knees, gasping for air.
"That's called Energy Rebound. You used too much divine power in a human body that isn't trained yet. Enjoy your death, Medical Emperor..."
A man in a golden robe jumped down from the helicopter, landing right in front of the helpless Zolda. The man held a long needle with a tip glowing dark purple.
"Now, give me your eyes and..."
