From Prison to Greatness

Chapter 01

Caleb stood in the doorway, his eyes locked on the scene unfolding in front of him. His wife, Ava—who was supposed to be welcoming him home after three long years in prison—was instead cuddling with another man on the couch. It felt like a punch to the chest. For a second, he couldn’t breathe.

“W-what are you doing, Ava?!” Caleb asked, his voice shaking as he fought to contain the anger boiling inside him.

Ava and the man jumped in shock, immediately pulling away and turning toward Caleb. Ava looked panicked at first, but within seconds, her expression turned calm. The man, on the other hand, looked completely unbothered by Caleb’s arrival.

As if she hadn’t just been caught red-handed, Ava calmly said, “You’re out, Caleb?! So, today was your release day? I had no idea.”

“You’re right. I’m out. But instead of a warm welcome from you, I walk into this? You’ve forgotten me. Forgotten the promises we made!” Caleb said, his voice rising. The disappointment in his tone was undeniable.

Ava looked at him with disgust and snapped back, “You were expecting a warm welcome from me?! Are you kidding, Caleb?! You and I are not on the same level anymore. Now that you're back, you should quietly head to the kitchen and start doing the dishes! Watch your tone—I’m someone important now!”

While Caleb was in prison, he’d heard news that Ava’s business had taken off. She had become one of the most beautiful, wealthy, and famous women in Fluxville. There were even rumors that her net worth had reached two billion dollars.

That was also why Caleb never questioned why she hadn’t visited him once in three years. He assumed she was just too busy.

But he was wrong. The real reason she never came was because she saw herself as better than him. She didn’t even see him as her husband anymore—just a servant.

Staring at her in disbelief, Caleb asked, “Have you forgotten that I went to prison to protect your honor?! That everything you have now—all your success—came from me?! I gave you all my savings, two million dollars! How could you do this to me after everything I did for you?!”

“Oh? So now you want a reward for your sacrifices? You should be grateful I’m even letting you stay in this house. If I kicked you out, who would take in a criminal like you?!” Ava yelled, clearly offended that Caleb had brought up the two million he gave her. How shameless, she thought.

Caleb was stunned. “You see me as a criminal, Ava?!”

Did she really forget why he went to prison?

Three years ago, a group of guys had tried to harass Ava. Right in front of him, they shamelessly offered her money in exchange for sex.

Furious, Caleb grabbed a brick nearby and smashed it into one of the guys.

But unfortunately, that guy turned out to be the son of a powerful businessman in Fluxville. They reported Caleb to the police for assault, and he ended up with a three-year prison sentence.

At the time, Caleb was worried about Ava. They’d only been married for a month, and she was just running a small clothing business.

So he decided to give her all his savings—two million dollars—to help her grow it. He even let her sell his restaurant to raise more money.

Now that Ava had finally made it, she dared to call him a criminal? How cruel.

Ava responded, “You just got out of prison. What else should I call you besides a criminal?!”

At this point, the man who had been with Ava interrupted, “Seems like I’m not wanted here. I’ll let you two handle your drama.”

He turned to leave, but Caleb grabbed his shoulder tightly. With a cold voice, Caleb said, “You think you can just walk away after what you did with my wife?!”

The man smirked arrogantly and replied, “Oh? You really don’t know who I am, do you? You better take your hand off me before I get angry. You’ll regret it once you find out what I can do to you.”

Caleb didn’t care who this guy was. “Then go ahead. Show me.”

Without warning, Caleb shoved the man back and punched him hard in the face. The guy spun through the air and landed on the floor with blood pouring from his nose.

Of course, Ava panicked. She rushed to the man’s side and asked, “Are you okay, Mr. Thompson?!”

The man was none other than Ethan Thompson—the only son of Arnold Thompson, a high-ranking business tycoon in Fluxville.

The Thompson family had control over multiple industries, including entertainment and healthcare. It was no wonder they were one of the most powerful families in the city.

While wiping blood from his nose, Ethan muttered, “That was a really stupid move.”

Ava shot Caleb a furious glare. “Are you insane, Caleb?! You just got out of prison and now you want to go back?! Do you even realize who you just hit?! That’s Ethan Thompson, the only son of the Thompson family! He could have you killed right now if he wanted to! Apologize immediately if you don’t want to end up back in jail—or worse, dead!”

She was defending this guy over her own husband?! Who was this woman? What happened to the Ava Caleb once knew?

Had money changed her? Or had it just revealed her true colors?

Caleb replied coldly, “Apologize? Why would I? I’d rather die than apologize to him.”

“You’re completely insane, Caleb! If you don’t apologize to Mr. Thompson right now, I’m divorcing you!” Ava shouted angrily.
