“Yemima said the monsters’ withdrawal was deliberate preparation for Evernight, didn’t she? That means if we’ve encountered everything from zombies to bears, there’s a good chance those are the very monsters that will come after us, right?”
An hour before Evernight began, Adrian had already devised a plan to lure as many monsters as possible toward his shelter. He hadn’t done so without making preparations.
“Zombies and Abominations are still manageable. Those Blood Bears are the hardest ones to defeat.”
His undead army would have no trouble holding back the zombies and Abominations. But as for the bears, only Yemima would likely be able to deal with them.
“But with the turrets’ help, it shouldn’t be a problem either,” Darla said. “Even if the cannons can’t kill the bears, they should certainly be able to scare them away.”
Darla was simply trying to be realistic. Killing a bear was extremely difficult. Scaring one away was already a considerable achievement. There was no need to kill them, let alone deliberately target every single one.
Adrian, however, clearly had a different idea. He wasn’t satisfied with merely frightening the monsters into retreating to protect his shelter. He wanted more than that.
He said nothing, but a realization gradually dawned on him.
“Darla is right,” he thought. “The monsters will flee if they realize they’re in danger.”
That might apply not only to the bears, but to the zombies and Abominations as well.
“And that would only ruin my plan.”
Adrian wanted to draw all the monsters closer before attacking them all at once. To accomplish that, he only needed to do one thing.
“I’ll make sure the shelter looks easier to attack. Once they’ve all arrived, I’ll make sure not a single one of them escapes!”

“Now! Yemima, get down there and help them!”
Adrian shouted as he simultaneously pressed a button on the screen, reactivating all his turrets.
“Yes, my lord!”
Mustering all her strength, the knight moved at incredible speed, like a shadow, before appearing in front of a bear just a second later.
“One of you struck me yesterday! I’ll never forget it! Now, it’s time to pay you back!”
Leaping into the air, Yemima clenched her right fist before thrusting it forward.
Bang!
Her movement was so fast that the bear had no chance of anticipating it.
A powerful punch slammed into its face, sending its body flying into the red mist.
Whoosh!
Yemima showed no mercy as she pursued it into the mist. True to her title as the Dark Knight, she could see just as clearly in the darkness as she could in the light.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Dozens of punches rang out in just ten seconds.
Whenever her punches sent the bear flying backward, the knight would move even faster, positioning herself behind it and striking its back to send it flying forward again. The process continued repeatedly.
And now that her strength had increased so dramatically, the bear’s thick, tough hide seemed to mean nothing to her.
Boom!
After several more blows, the enormous bear crashed to the ground.
Whoosh!
Yemima immediately moved to target the other Blood Bears.
“Umbra gladii, exsurge et expande! Sicut Titan, dominare campum!”
As she chanted a spell, the sword raised in her hand manifested the astral shadow of a gigantic blade dozens of meters long. Its tip struck a bear, but it did not stop there. It continued sweeping through the group of monsters behind it.
“Speculum umbrarum, multiplicamini in mille! Volate, o tela mortis!”
Chanting another spell, she pointed her sword toward the monsters approaching the fence. Thousands of shadow blades immediately shot forward.
Crash! Crash! Crash!
In an instant, zombies and Abominations collapsed to the ground in heaps, their bodies sliced apart.
Zap-zap! Zap-zap!
At the same time, the Gold-tier laser cannons on the roof and along the fence continued firing without pause.
Adrian hadn’t simply stood by doing nothing all this time. He had carefully locked each cannon onto a specific target area. As soon as they were activated, their effects were truly devastating.
Each attack killed dozens of zombies and five Abominations, and even forced a bear backward.
With all twenty-four turrets operating simultaneously, the situation was completely reversed.
What had initially appeared to be a shelter surrounded and on the verge of destruction now seemed to have transformed into a predator, ready to annihilate the monsters wherever and whenever they appeared.
“Soldiers! Follow me!”
The supporting attacks reinvigorated the Northern and Southern Generals. Leading their troops, the two generals charged into the red mist.
“Drake, Jaxon, are you two all right?”
Seeing the Northern and Southern Generals arrive, Yemima, who had just killed a bear, couldn’t help asking. She had seen the two of them being thoroughly beaten earlier.
“Don’t worry! We undead generals won’t be defeated that easily! Come on, attack! Don’t let these monsters escape!”
Crash! Crash! Crash!
The heartbreaking sounds of blades cutting through flesh continued to ring out from every direction.
As an undead army, they had no trouble seeing in the darkness.
The troops pressed forward, pursuing the monsters all the way to the outer perimeter and wiping them out until none remained.
Zap-zap! Zap-zap!
At the same time, the turrets also began firing into the mist as though they had eyes of their own, seemingly capable of seeing their targets hidden within.
“Darla, you did it! The cannons are still firing into the mist!”
Adrian grinned broadly at Darla, who had just emerged into the lobby to join him.
She had been recalibrating the cannons’ data all this time, enabling them to detect certain signs in the darkness so they could shoot at monsters hiding within it.
“Even without the mist, they wouldn’t be able to escape us. With the mist here, they have even less chance! They’ve come straight to their own graves!”
Adrian spoke with great excitement.
Darla said nothing. Instead, she threw her arms around him.
Her heart was filled with overwhelming joy. At first, she had worried that Adrian’s plan to let as many monsters as possible approach their shelter would turn into a disaster.
But seeing how clever and well-prepared he was, she felt immensely relieved. And now that his plan had actually succeeded, she was at a loss for words. All she could do was hold him even tighter.
They had not only survived Evernight. They had also proven that the monsters could be defeated.

“You do realize you've interrupted my morning, don't you? Arthur, you'd better not disappoint me.”“I would never do that, my lord.”The white-haired man bowed before presenting the holographic screen in his hands to Kaelen.“My lord, look! Of the ninety-nine shelters, only eighteen remain! That means the number of people opposing you has decreased significantly!”“Excellent!”A broad smile spread across Kaelen's face before he burst into laughter. As a lord, he could actually open his own screen and see what was happening for himself. But, of course, he was too lazy to do so.“With so many lords surrendering to me, wouldn't it be more appropriate to consider me a king rather than a mere lord?”That was what he thought.“Besides, why should I bother checking everything myself? That's their job! As my subordinates, they're the ones who should take care of it for me!”All he had to do was relax and enjoy himself while others handled everything. Just as they were doing for him that morni

“So these will be exchanged for Bronze-tier soldiers? No problem. With them joining my forces, my army will only continue to grow.”After all the bear and Abomination corpses had been thrown into the altar, only the zombie corpses remained. Although they were the most numerous, they were also the lowest-tier monsters.Even so, the thought of a massive army of undead soldiers marching before him made Adrian’s heart race with excitement.“What? No soldiers are appearing?”His expression immediately changed when ten zombie corpses were thrown in, yet nothing emerged.Instead, the altar produced a hundred Attribute Stones. That meant he would receive ten Stones for every zombie corpse.“All right. It’s fine. At least I’m getting something out of this.”Although he couldn’t hide his disappointment, it wasn’t as though he had gained nothing. There were around three thousand zombie corpses, which meant he had now obtained thirty thousand Attribute Stones.“With reserves like these, I won’t h
Chapter 27 - Reaping the Rewards
“Your strategy was truly brilliant, my lord!”Yemima was helping several injured undead soldiers rest in a special room on the first floor. Around half of the army had sustained serious injuries. Although none of them were life-threatening, the soldiers still needed complete rest to recover.“We managed to kill so many monsters! We didn’t let a single one of them escape!”Drake spoke excitedly. Although his facial expression was difficult to read, consisting of nothing more than a skull, his voice was filled with joy.“I can hardly wait for the next Evernight!”Jaxon was quick to add his own comment. Both generals had also suffered serious injuries after fighting the Blood Bears. However, compared to the victory they had achieved, their injuries meant nothing.“Get some rest.”Adrian patted his generals on the shoulders, a broad smile spreading across his face.“You fought very well tonight. You deserve some rest.”A faint light appeared in the eastern sky. Sunrise was approaching.Al

Chapter 25 - The Attack He Had Been Waiting For
Growl!Emerging from the mist, an Abomination appeared, wielding a hammer and a mace. It wasn't just one or two. A dozen of them emerged simultaneously.“Huh, trash! If all you can do is rely on your body to attack me, then you deserve to die!”Slash!Slash! The Northern General swung his arms in succession, his sword flashing through the air at incredible speed. With a single flurry of strikes, two Abominations collapsed to the ground, their bodies severed.Slash!Slash!Elsewhere, the Southern General did the same. Leaping into the air, he managed to cleave through two Abominations at once before immediately turning to attack another monster. At Gold tier, fighting these Silver-tier monsters posed no difficulty whatsoever.More Abominations continued to emerge. To deal with them, both generals moved with greater alertness and speed, covering their soldiers whenever necessary.Growl!Another growl, deeper and louder than before, echoed from within the mist.Rather than feeling afraid
Chapter 24 - The First Evernight
“The countdown begins.”The game system's voice echoed across the sky as the giant digital display showed 00:00:10.“Ten.”“Nine.”“Eight.”“Seven.”“Six.”Inside the room, Darla watched the computer screen and saw that the mist was now only a few hundred meters away from the outer perimeter. Given its speed, there was no way the countdown above them could be wrong. In just a few seconds, it would reach them.“Five.”“Four.”At the same time, Adrian stood in the second-floor lobby with his arms folded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His expression was cold, and his eyes conveyed nothing but calm composure. The point in front of him marked the outer boundary of the region. And the fact that his greenhouse faced directly toward it seemed to suggest that the structure had been designed to confront the monsters that were about to arrive.“If a lord has truly been brought to this New World with the destiny of exterminating monsters, then so be it. I'll fight every last one of them.”“Three
