The priests and paladins reacted instantly and professionally to the explosions.
Most of them tried to huddle all the children together like sheep and encircled them to protect them. The rest jumped to assist the Royal guards in protecting the king. The sudden fear and panic that came with the sudden attack had caused many of the children to subconsciously retract their abilities — including Alex. In fact, they did not even feel like people who had just recently awakened, they felt weak and helpless. A few moments ago, a large blood-red dome had appeared in the sky. The presence of that dome prevented anyone from teleporting in or out of the town square. "A magic barrier dome? Shit, they mean business." Alex overheard one of the paladins mutter to himself in panic. People had been running helter-skelter since the explosions and now with the appearance of the dome, there was nowhere to run to. There was no way to even tell where the enemy was coming from because no hostile figure had appeared yet. Still, there was panic because everyone knew that something was terribly wrong. All of a sudden, some of the people in the crowd began to melt and shift into hideous creatures that had scaly skin and horns. Some of them had red skin while others had black skin. Some held weapons while some were empty-handed. However, one thing they all had in common was that there was a sinister, blood thirsty smile on their lips. "Demons..." Everyone gasped almost simultaneously. The people who were beside the demons before they shifted suddenly began to scamper away but they were instantly cut down before they could move. A few of the guards, priests and paladins jumped into action and tried to protect the villagers but there was only so much they could do. They were few in number because the majority of their forces were protecting the children and the king who were the kingdom's most valuable assets at that moment. It wasn't too difficult to guess the motive of the demons at that moment. They were trying to kill off the next generation of the kingdom's magic ability users thereby weakening its military force. It was a neat plan — infiltrate the Awakening then nip them in the bud. One would wonder why the demons did not attack before the Awakening ceremony began. That was because they did not plan to kill all of the newly awakened, they would take away the ones with interesting magic abilities and groom them to become double agents but if they were uncooperative then they would extract their magic and kill them. The guards, priests and paladins who jumped to the villagers' rescue were getting overwhelmed. The sheer number of the demon forces was too much for them to handle. However, they couldn't give up. They had to hold on for the sake of the future generation that they were trying to protect. The chief guard who was protecting the king watched the entire debacle with suspicion. There was something terribly off about this attack. He noticed that there were only demon foot-soldiers, there were no demon commanders or generals — and that was strange because you could not find demon foot soldiers without someone commanding them nearby. The moment he realised this, there was a sudden shift in magic energy around them and from his peripheral vision, he caught one of the guards melting away to morph into a demon commander. "Got you." With a wide swing of his sword, he struck the demon commander and the two of them were sent flying in different directions. The chief guard gritted his teeth as he tightened his grip on his sword. This demon commander was no joke. Although he had caught the commander while he was vulnerable. His tough skin had still made it impossible for the sword to cause any damage at all even though the chief guard had augmented that strike with 100% of his magic power. The demon commander stood unhurt a few metres away from the king where he had been knocked down. His aura made the chief guard feel like a fly in his presence. The chief guard didn't need to be told that if he tried to engage this demon, he would end up dead, but he had no option, he had to do his duty and protect his liege. He looked at the king from his peripheral vision. He was a handsome, soft-faced, kind man with yellow hair because of his affinity for Yellow magic. The man looked like he couldn't even kill a fly. The chief guard knew that it was dangerous to have such a king in such perilous times but the man was fair, honest and treated them equally, so it did not matter that he was not a magic power house like the other Kings. He would make sure that he laid his life on the line for the sake of the man and the sake of the kingdom. His attention went back to the demon commander and it was then that he knew that he had made a terrible mistake. He had lost his concentration while a demon commander was standing before him and now that his concentration was back, what he could see was a huge longsword in a vertical slash coming for his head. The attack wasn't that fast, he knew he could dodge it but before he could react, he saw himself completely out of harm's way with the king holding his shoulder. The sword that was supposed to have cleaved him in half struck the ground and got stuck there. "You shouldn't lose focus in front of an enemy Alfredo." The king said, The chief guard's eyes widened as he looked at his king. He had never seen this side of him before, in fact, he had never seen him in combat ever. His yellow hair was glowing, his pupils were glowing yellow too and there were crackles of yellow electricity snaking through his entire body. The Royal robe had been cast away to reveal a sleek yellow and white armour that clung to the King's toned and muscular body. "Y...yes sir." The chief guard responded. He was apparently oppressed by the King's flashy display of magic. As a Grade 6 magic ability user, he always believed he was fairly powerful but seeing his king who looked like he was easily a Grade 8, he felt weak and useless. The demon commander grinned contentedly when he saw the King's sudden change in appearance. "Good... a worthy opponent." "Shut up." The king replied apathetically, and before the demon commander could blink, his headless body crashed to the ground while the king stood a few metres away with a yellow-bladed dagger stained with demon blood on his left hand and the head of the demon commander on his right.

To meet the next guild member, Ken had to take Alex into the forest. They met Amelia and the other guild member, Trent, patrolling the forests. There was instant tension in the air when Amelia caught sight of Alex."What's he doing here?" Amelia asked Ken, "Does he want to destroy the forest again?""Please calm down Amelia," Ken said, "he's just a newly awakened, he doesn't have control of his powers. I mean, you of all people should know how that feels."Ken's last statement made Amelia shut up, even though she still looked unhappy about the previous day's drama."The forest's efficiency is not yet up to 100%. It will take a few more days before that happens. Till then, we have to be on high alert so I'm going to continue patrolling." Amelia said hurriedly and walked off,"Why's she so worked up about the whole thing?" Alex asked, "The forest is okay now. She doesn't have to antagonise me anymore.""Well, Amelia's affinity is Green. She has a very deep love for nature and in additio

"Huh?" Alex retorted and spun around to see a scrawny young guy smiling suspiciously at him."I meant the view. It's hard, right?" The guy asked again and nudged his chin in the direction of the view before them where the beautiful forest and the beautiful lady all stood.Alex narrowed his eyes in suspicion. "I'm not sure I know what you're talking about...""Ahhh, you're so funny," the guy said and hooked his arm around Alex's neck like an old-time friend. "I'm Rex. What's your name?""Alex.""Alex, I have a feeling we'll get along quite well, so what's your affinity?"Before Alex could reply, Ken interrupted them. "Rex, leave the kid alone. He's still a minor, I don't want you feeding his mind with your nonsense.""Aww..." Rex laughed and ran off, "See you later, Alex."Alex and Ken watched Rex run off in silence. "I like him." Alex chipped."Meh, he's okay." Ken shrugged then turned to Alex, "How do you feel this morning?""I feel great, honestly." Alex shrugged in response, "Th
8 One Interesting Kid
The person who slammed the door open was a young girl, who looked not older than 21 years. She also had green hair and wore green-rimmed spectacles that made her look like a nerd. However, she was angry and looked like she was ready to murder someone."Master Ken!!" She yelled angrily, "Someone burnt down the entire forest outside!! Who did that? I will kill that person!!"Alex froze at the words that came out of her mouth. He hoped that Ken wouldn't say anything to implicate him, he didn't want any smoke with this girl. Obviously, she was an ability user. She could kill him in a breath.Master Ken smiled broadly and asked, "Amelia! Have you met the latest addition to our guild?... What's your name kiddo?""Alex" "Right. Amelia, this is Alex, he's the newest member of our guild. Please treat him well."Amelia ignored the last comment and went straight to Alex. Even as a malnourished 15-year-old, Alex was still a bit tall for his age so when Amelia stood before him, she had to arch h
7 Blakk Guild HQ
"Who the hell builds a guild HQ in the middle of nowhere?" Alex gritted his teeth as he waded through the thick Vegetation of the village forest where everyone told him that the Blakk Guild had built their HQ. "This is mental..."It was nighttime, and Alex was barely managing to move through the bushes without tripping or running into something that would end his life. If he had known that the guild building was so far away, then he would've slept in the village before embarking on the journey the next day, but he hadn't known so here he was, stumbling through the darkness in search of a building that he did not even know what it looked like. Now that he had awakened, Alex had no reason to ever return to the orphanage, not even to sleep for one second. He never wanted to see that building or the people inside it ever again. He remembered seeing Flash after the Awakening. His abilities were not active so his hair was its natural colour, but from the haughty smile on his face and the
6 Alex Meets Ken
"Pests!" The king lifted the demon commander's head for the demon foot soldiers to see. "Here is your leader!"After the commander had been killed, the dome began to fade away and the light from the sun that had been previously obstructed by the dome shone on the king and his yellow aura making him resemble an angel of light on a rescue mission.Demons were not very emotional creatures, but the sight of their "strong" commander's head sent a ripple of fear through them. However, before they could react, the king tossed the head at them. The head was still sailing through the air when the king murdered every demon foot soldier standing in the town square with blinding speed.Suddenly, everyone burst into applause and cheers. Even the chief guard sighed deeply in relief. Alex was stunned. Even though he lived in a world of magic, it was quite difficult to witness such battles in action because the guilds and the Magic Association in conjunction with the Royal Body of Magi (ROBOM) made
