Legacy Left Behind

For the nth time since he got the system, he went shopping for food with his best friend in preparation for the doomsday that was already knocking at their door.

He advised his best friend to stay in the door and told him that if there was any trouble, they could stay with them; the two friends separated and promised to keep in touch as long as the internet was up.

"THERE'S A PROBABILITY THAT YOU'D NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN," the system said once they parted, and Eagan felt pained.

"I know, but I can't protect everyone. At least, that's what I have been telling myself since I knew the world would face a disaster. I'll do everything I can to protect the people I love."

Hearing that the system kept quiet

When he got home, he met his grandmother in their living room with her doctor beside her.

His grandmother's mother looks ghostly pale compared to how she was in the morning went he left home.

" Hello, Dr. Becca," he greeted the doctor and sat across them

"Hello, Eagan; how have you been?" The young doctor smiled and asked

"Been good; how come you are still here? I mean, it's already late out."

The doctor looked at his grandmother and was about to explain why she was there but was cut off by his grandmother.

"I'll talk to him" She stood up and almost tripped due to a loss of energy. Eagan went to her side and held her.

"Come with me to the study," she said, and he led her to the Study room close to the living room.

He led her to sit on the chair behind the study table and sat across from her. She pressed a button on the flower vase on the table, and the table opened up, revealing a small black rectangular-shaped box; she gently brought out the tube and placed it on the table as it returned to being a typical table.

She pushed the box to Eagan and then cleared her throat so she could speak clearly " Here, your parents left this for you."

Eagan eyed the box and looked at his grandmother with raised eyebrows

" Festus told me about the virus outbreak, so I'm aware of the situation out there.... that box, I was instructed to hand it over to you when you turn eighteen."

" You can still hold on to it. I'm not eighteen yet," Eagan said, scared what she was thinking would become a reality. The reality was that he'd be losing his grandmother soon. That reality he wasn't anywhere ready to face.

She gave him a sympathetic look and held his hands.

" Eagan, my dear, I'm old and tired... I have lived with this disease for half of my life, and it's painful. I don't want to leave you behind I don't want to, but we both don't have a say... I want you to leave your life without worrying about me ... Your parents left you a great legacy, and although you're still too young to get involved, I hope you can help them and help humanity. The time your parents bought humanity with their lives has ended, and now it's time to fight this," His grandmother explained.

" What do you mean my parents bought time?" Eagan asked, since he was younger, he'd never heard his grandmother's mother talk about his parents

" Did I ever tell you how your parent died?"

" You said they died in an accident."

" Ah, that was the cover-up story. " She reached into the drawer and brought out a photo; in the picture, there are five people, three of which he knows, his father, mother, and his uncle, Festus. The other two are unfamiliar to him.

After showing him the photo for a while, the grandmother began to explain, " This is your parents, Festus; oh, by the way, do you know Festus isn't my child? We aren't related by blood or anything, but he is your Godfather? He grew up with your parents the way you are with silver; they were inseparable " She smiled at the memory of the three when they were younger.

" We always thought your mother would marry Festus and not your father, hahaha those memories, oh sweet... The other two Are Audrey and Tina. They met those two in college and got close due to having the same hobby; They were intelligent young people; that's probably where you Got your genius gene from " She chuckled and continued talking.

" Your mother especially likes building robots and tech devices, and your uncle Festus was also a great programmer. While both did tech stuff, your dad Enjoyed the human body structure, and he studied Biochemistry. Those five were very close like siblings, but that soon changed. After graduation, they began working in their respective fields; Tina and I Were a couple Studying Virology. Audrey started to misbehave, behaving suspiciously around Tina; at first, she thought he was cheating and confronted him about it, but he only brushed it off as nothing; Tina then reported it to the rest of the group, and Festus suggested they get evidence before confronting him about it again, they installed a tracking device. He had a good recording camera in his car, which was how they discovered that Audrey was working for an organization that kidnaps and uses humans for illegal experiments. During that time, there were a series of missing children and adults; those found were either dead or walking dead. That was the first time the zombie virus was created, but it wasn't strong enough and didn't have much effect; that happened twenty years ago. When your parents and the others found out, they were shocked beyond reasoning, petrified that their close friend could do something like that, so they reported anonymously to the police cause doing that with their names would get them killed ... Unbeknownst to them, some of the police were members of the organization, so they didn't do anything about it. The four decided to put matters into their own hands; they employed some people to get a virus sample. Then your father and Tina began looking for the cure. They got their thanks on Audrey's Computer. Also, hacking into it, they discovered that he was a high-ranking officer in the organization, and the organization's goal was to rule all humanity.

Audrey discovered that Tina knew about his secret and coaxed her to join at first, but she refused to say she couldn't do that to humanity. Later, she joined after discussing it with the rest; she joined as a spy. During this time, your parents met Marcus. He was a detective in charge of the missing people case, and with his and Tina's help, they infiltrated the organization's base and destroyed the research data. That happened when you were almost a year old. The organization killed Tina for betraying them, and Your parents also became their target. Your mother designed and built a shelter well; I oversaw the building since they had to hide from the organization. The top is constructed to house the Virus survivors; She dropped you with me. She wanted you to have a normal childhood and grow up fine. Your parents and Marcus were killed three years later, except for Festus. They weren't aware of Marcus, so they took him as Festus, and that's why he is still alive today. Festus was programming the security of the base when your parents were killed," She explained with tears falling down her face.

This was too much for a seventeen-year-old, but what could she do? It'll be a miracle if she could make it past the night. She wiped her tears and looked at the expressionless young man sitting in front of her. She's never been able to read him except when he is happy, but other emotions weren't something he showed to people; it was like they weren't there. He didn't have a normal childhood.

She took out another box from the drawers and opened it.

" Here, this is the key to the shelter and the map; this is the legacy left by your parents. I'm sorry, Eagan. We all wanted you to grow up with worries."
