Chapter 1

A man in his early twenties stood before two women of the same age, bowing his head. He didn't know why he was summoned there, but he sensed the disdain in the women's gazes.

"Do you realize your mistake that led us to call you here, trash?" Callista Cattegirn, one of the two women, spoke. The condescending tone in her voice was unmistakable to the man – Steve, sparing him the need to look up to know.

Steve Hart tried to recall any mistake he might have made. He was just doing his daily task as a son-in-law, cleaning his wife's wealthy family's house. Nothing else came to mind until he was suddenly summoned to the living room and berated without a clear reason like this.

"I don't remember making any mistake, Miss Callista," Steve Hart said.

Steve's words were met with a scornful look from Callista. She seemed offended that Steve dared to reply.

"Shut your mouth. My diamond necklace is missing, and you're the most likely person in this house to have taken it!" Callista Cattegirn exclaimed, pointing her fingers at Steve's face.

Frowning, Steve realized this was a game the woman in front of him had played more than once.

Callista Cattegirn often accused Steve of things he never did. Until now, Steve had stayed silent, but this time, he wasn't sure if he could continue to do so.

Unintentionally, Steve fixed a sharp gaze on Callista. Realizing this, Callista was taken aback as it was the first time Steve had dared to look at her in such a manner.

"Trash, since when did you become so bold? You should know your place; you were just a vagabond before Agatha kindly agreed to marry trash like you!" Callista Cattegirn raised her voice.

Any anger Steve had felt vanished upon hearing that; it was a harsh reminder that he was nobody.

"Miss Callista, I did take your diamond necklace. Now, tell me what I should do as the punishment?" Steve Hart asked, his voice low but vibrating with intensity.

Admitting to something he never did wasn't new to Steve; he saw it as a way to endure, even if it meant sacrificing his dignity.

Callista Cattegirn smiled triumphantly, satisfaction evident on her face as she once again manipulated Steve.

Realizing he could only clench his fists tightly, Steve suspected that Callista found pleasure in humiliating him.

"Due to my generosity, you won't receive punishment this time. Now crawl out of here like a dog," Callista Cattegirn said casually.

Steve felt a surge of anger again; he had suspected Callista wouldn't let him go easily.

Amidst his rage, Steve began to assume the position as requested by Callista.

Steve Hart might have been furious, but there was nothing he could do to retaliate against all the mistreatment he faced.

As he crawled, Steve accidentally made eye contact with the woman beside Callista, who had remained silent and observant from the beginning.

Her name was Agatha Cattegirn, a stunning woman with an extraordinary charm that could captivate any man who looked at her.

Agatha Cattegirn immediately averted her gaze when their eyes met, leaving Steve to sigh deeply.

Agatha Cattegirn was his wife, responsible for making Steve's life feel like hell. Yet, for some reason, Steve found it hard to despise her for an uncertain reason.

"Hey, stop looking at my cousin like that. Do you think you'll get sympathy from her by doing that?!" Callista Cattegirn angrily exclaimed, noticing Steve's gaze on Agatha.

Steve clenched his fists tightly and said, "My mistake."

Without saying much, Steve immediately tried to leave the living room by crawling. Unfortunately, before he could go far, the sound of spilled water reached his ears.

Steve glanced back to see Callista purposefully pouring a full glass of water onto the floor.

"Darn it, I accidentally spilled it. Hey... you, quickly come back here and clean up this mess," Callista Cattegirn said.

Steve glanced at Callista Cattegirn for a moment before saying, "I'll get a mop then."

"What, since when do you need that kind of thing? Crawl back here and clean up this floor without using a mop. Oh, maybe you can lick it clean, haha."

Steve's gaze at Callista turned full of mixed feelings, he had often been treated as he pleased but this time it was too much.

"Do you mind doing it?" asked Callista Cattegirn while raising her eyebrows.

Steve Hart silently wiped the wet floor with his hands and clothes. In Callista's eyes, Steve looked disgusting and embarrassing but of course she was happy to see the scene. It's just that, it seems that Callista would be happier if Steve licked the floor using his tongue, too bad Steve found another way.

Until the floor was clean, Steve Hart crawled out of the living room as fast as he could. He immediately headed to the bathroom to clean his wet body.

As he left, Steve heard a satisfied laugh from Callista. It made Steve curse inwardly, questioning why he had to endure such mistreatment.

"Damn, are you pleased after trampling on someone?" Steve cursed in front of the bathroom mirror, unable to contain his emotions any longer.

Steve's mind wandered, wondering if all of this would still happen if he were wealthy. Would Callista and his wife's family still belittle him if he had power? And most importantly, would he dare seek revenge if he had it all?

"If I were…” Steve murmured then he slapped his own cheek. “Damn, you always imagining an impossible miracle happened to your life. That's why you look pathetic, you scoundrel," Steve said to his reflection in the mirror.

Steve splashed water on his face several times to clear his mind, hoping all memories of the humiliating incident would wash away, though it didn't seem to work.

Suddenly…

Steve was startled when a hologram-like transparent screen suddenly appeared before him. He tried to rub his eyes, but the message remained.
