Daily Quest: Run 20 kilometres

Roshan’s mouth hung open as he read the screen.

The first thing that caught his attention was the new feature.

‘Human Race…’

He was a Greater Human?

‘What the hell was that!’ he asked himself.

Another surprise was the Daily Quest at the end of the screen.

‘How am I supposed to run 20 kilometres in a day?’ he groaned.

The system gave no response, which annoyed him even more.

Well… he had to become stronger.

He picked up his sword and ran out of the forest at full speed.

“Sir, a Daegi was reported on the Nerat border,” a young man in military armor said, standing opposite the huge desk.

“Hmmm…” A deep monotone voice hummed in thought. Behind the desk sat a man no older than fifty, with a large scar from his right eye to his cheek. His muscles were massive, intimidating even the strongest bodybuilders.

“Have you captured it?” the voice asked again.

“N…no, Sir. We tried, but it was too strong and escaped,” the soldier stuttered, bowing his head in shame.

Not capturing one of those was a disgrace, especially with twelve strong soldiers present.

The boss, however, seemed uninterested.

“How many rings did you see?” the muscular man asked.

“F…Five, Sir,” the soldier whispered.

‘Fi…Five rings? How did a Five-Ring enter the southern border? I need to inform the head. The war may begin sooner than we think.’

The man looked calm, though his mind raced.

“Okay, dismiss.”

The soldier saluted and turned.

“Captain Rus, wait,” the deep voice called, stopping him.

“Sir?” Rus asked, turning.

“I think we should begin the tournament now,” the muscular man said, hands on his chin.

“But… but sir…” Rus frowned.

“Rus, we need more hands on deck due to that Daegi. Its appearance shows we underestimated their growth.”

“What are you talking about? That’s not why you want to start the tournament,” Rus said.

“Elder Brother, if we start the tournament sooner with benefits, people will train harder. He will feel left out and push himself. He is my nephew, your son. You know what he is capable of,” Shawn explained.

Emerald eyes stared back in annoyance.

“Alright, do what you must,” Rus said, storming out.

‘At least he understands,’ Shawn sighed, pressing a button on his communicator.

“The Arkon Tournament will begin in two weeks.”

---

Jet black hair moved in the warm breeze as crystal blue eyes sparkled under the noon sun.

Pink lips moved calmly as he took steady breaths.

Thin, pale hands gripped his weapon, then…

BAM! BAM! BAM!

Deafening sounds rang through the compound.

“You don’t have to hit it that hard,” an aged voice said as he watched the child mark his wall.

“I have to! The tournament is in two weeks, and I’m still not satisfied!” Roshan gritted.

He didn’t turn to acknowledge the man.

“You’ve done enough for today. Remember, you’ll also be tested on your knowledge,” the old man said, sipping tea.

“Yeah, I’ve read the books you gave me,” Roshan replied, raising his sword again.

The man’s hands trembled. ‘Everything… he finished all the books in three days!’ he thought.

‘No… he must be playing with me,’ he sighed.

“Hmmm… may I ask you some questions?” the man asked.

“Feel free,” Roshan said, continuing to swing his sword. He hated the weapon, but it was his only tool to train speed and strength.

“What were the abilities of the First Users?” the man asked calmly.

“The First Users were the first humans to show abilities in the war for survival. There were eleven: Fire, Water, Light, Space, Mind, Darkness, Earth, Lightning, Ice, and Mud,” Roshan said in a breath.

“The basic elements were Fire, Water, Light, Space, Mind, Darkness, and Earth. The evolved abilities were Lightning, Ice, and Mud.” He swung again.

“Over time, other abilities appeared: Speed, Telekinesis, Strength, Body Hardening, Steel, and more. But they were minor compared to the First Users.”

“Should I go on?” Roshan smirked.

The man stared, feeling the boy was no ordinary child. He had recited history as if it were a story.

“Roshan, instead of training on my wall…” the old man frowned at the marks.

“…why don’t you spar with some of the village kids?” he continued, watching the boy for a reaction.

Roshan paused, smiling.

“Master Fyi… I don’t understand,” he said.

“Go out and challenge those who plan to compete in the tournament, dimwit,” Fyi groaned.

‘Ahh… yes, I should have thought of that long ago,’ Roshan thought.

“Thank you, Master. I’ll be back by noon,” he said, speeding into the village.

He realized he could use the competitors to test his skills. ‘Master is brilliant,’ he thought.

He wanted to spar, but the daily quest and unfinished main quest weighed on his mind. He had killed two more Level 1 beasts in the last few days but hadn’t tackled the daily quest.

He ran past the marketplace, past the playground, and into the forest.

“System, show me my progress with the daily quest.”

[Daily Quest: Run 20 kilometres]

[Daily Quest: 15/20 kilometres completed]

Five kilometres remained. His legs ached.

He ran deeper into the forest.

“Ahhh… this system is really annoying,” Roshan panted.

[«Ding»]

[Daily Quest completed]

[50 EXP points gained]

[EXP: 50/200]

“What… just 50? My legs feel like they’ll break, and you give me only 50 points!” he yelled.

Anyone watching would wonder why a pale child was screaming at no one.

The system gave no reply. Roshan scowled in annoyance.

Then, light rustling of leaves came from beside him.

After much contemplation, Read rose to his feet. He was the one in the best shape among the rest.So he had the best chance.“I’ll go in and get Hera. Once I’m done, I’ll make it to the ship. If you don’t see me, don’t look for me,” Read said.A number of the soldiers wanted to refuse, but a single stare was enough to silence them.“I’m the strongest one here right now,” Read said, looking toward the destroyed city, “I’ll be able to make it. I’ll contact you first before anything.”“Are you ready, Kai?” Read looked at the yellow-haired man.Kai coughed out blood before rising to his feet.“Yeah. I’ll be fine,” he chuckled in response, wiping the blood on his clothes, hiding it from the others.A portal instantly materialized, and Kai coughed again, this time vomiting blood.“I have him,” Bahr said, moving quickly to grab the collapsing Kai.“Take him inside first,” Read ordered, “and the rest of you follow.”The other soldiers picked up Lans and Roshan, then walked inside. At the ship,

The golden dust flew in the air, drifting slowly and landing on different citizens. It looked like a scene from a movie, the golden hue mixing with the redness of the blood puddles beneath their feet.It gave a dark, haunting feeling, but deep in everyone's heart, there was relief. No more death. Those who had lost families, children, and relatives swallowed their grief, their trembling eyes falling on their hero of the day.“She’s not moving,” someone said softly, and the rest turned their heads.Hera was truly not moving. Her head hung low, and her hands rested limply by her side, her body completely still.A few of them rushed forward to help her, or at least carry her to a safer place. While some of them stayed back, hesitant.“What if she wakes up and uses that thing on us?” they whispered among themselves.“We can’t trust the power users. Our city was safe until they stepped in.”If Roshan had been here, he would have understood Heath’s behavior.Just as a few of them reached clo

“Lans, are you sure you'd be able to manage?” Hera asked, charging up her mana, her voice carrying both urgency and restrained concern. There was no time to delay and once that monster was done leveling up, it could tear down the whole city, leaving nothing but ruin behind.Lans nodded, “Just get her ready, and I'd handle the rest.”He rushed forward, shoving fear out of his mind, burying it beneath sheer will. This was his chance to prove himself in front of Hera, he wouldn't let a simple emotion ruin it.His power was unstable and if there was no control, it could cause more damage than the Daegi, a truth he was painfully aware of.“I need twenty minutes, Lans.” Hera called and went down in a cross-legged position, her aura beginning to stabilize.Lans didn't turn back but he gave a nod, his focus already narrowing to the battlefield ahead.Sucking in a breath, Lans moved his hand and power flowed from within him, commanding the mana around him, bending it to his fragile will.“Spati

She had to activate judgement now.“Sacred Sword Projection: Judgement!” Hera cried with a loud voice and the light long sword in her hand grew bigger, its edges blazing with a loud amount of holy light. The sword moved towards the Daegi in an attempt to slice in two from the top.The Daegi felt a tingling sensation, and it turned around, ignoring its target on Roshan’s body.It immediately blinked away from the area of contact trying to move from the attack but Hera persisted turning her body and the sword. It was time to give this Daegi a piece of her mind.Something at the back of her mind told her that she wouldn’t be able to fully destroy this monster just like she did to the Tre-ant but it was worth it.“At least these people can escape with me

[Opponent detected] [System Quest: Obliterate Opponent] [Quest Reward: Evolution] Roshan’s sword glowed brightly with fire as he stood with his back against Hera, holding her own bright light longsword. They both had to face different opponents, and their opponents weren’t giving them a breathing space. “Let’s go, Roshan.” Hera said, and at the sound of her voice. She activated her spells “Light element: Judgemental Rods.” At the sound of Hera’s voice. A dozen thick rods formed in front of her, ready to launch at the Daegi. “Would you need any help?” Hera said, directing her question to Roshan. “I don’t know yet.” Roshan replied calmly. He really didn’t know if he would be able to kill this thing but he definitely wanted to kill it. ------ He just wanted to get the satisfaction of killing it, the one thing that was the cause of his parents’ death. Roshan knew that this was not the exact creature that killed his parents. This was a human who was trapped in the body of this m

I’m so happy that you are finally true to yourself.” Heath grinned widely. His face contorting into one of pure madness.“I said, Shut up!” Roshan moved swiftly, putting his attributes to use.
